Pay careful attention at 33:40 and you will hear Philip Glass meets J.S Bach. Indian Classical has everything in it but many miss because it just flows from one to another so freely.

This is an example of Indian classical music can be so mesmerizing with just 2 masters. You don't need a whole orchestra with an over reacting conductor.

Her view and acceptance of global classical approaches in her playing is wonderful to witness. She embraces European/U.States breezes into her meditation, and does a wonderful job of staying in the Indian-view taan. So finely tuned. Good players of all classical styles meet in the same place - om nada brahma. :)
True, but watching a world class symphony - 30 people or so on the same meditation points, and playing in tandem... when it's good, and one understands the approach and how it differs from India's style, one sees the dharmic strengths in each approach. It's a wonderful understanding...

And Jascha Heifetz is no Kala Ramnath that's even more sure. Don't compare Western Violinists with Indian. It's like comparing a Pineapples with Mangoes. A painter is not qualified to judge the performance of a sculptor using the rules of painting. Western musicians cannot pass judgement on non western music using the rules of Western music. Jascha Heifetz has zero understanding of 2000 or more Ragas with 72 scales with all the nuances of how to render them. Neither would he know of the 100+ tabla rythmic cycles and be able to fit his melody into those cycles while composing the melodic patterns extempore completely without any rehearsal or notation while staying within the rules of the Raga. Neither would Jascha Heifetz know of the 22 microtone scales of Indian music that harmonize with the drone (instead of the Western 12 note equal tempered scale). Neither do I see Jascha Heifetz play any extensive slides between and across notes. All his music has separate plain individual notes which is boring from the Indian musical perspective because a lot of emotion is created with the slides (portmento) . Also, Kala can play very quick scales, where each note in the scale is a portmento combination of two or more notes (if you had the ability to hear it). Since Jascha Heifetz doesn't do that he evidently is not practiced at it and could never compete with Kala if he had to do quick and prolonged melodic patterns where each note is really a cluster of portmento notes (again Westerners have to have the ability to hear it before they even know what is being played). Sorry but your comment is typical of smug Western judgement based on ignorance of other forms of non Western art.
