Agreed. I discovered your channel 5 years ago through the video you made about Alexander McQueen and I was shocked at how bold, seductive and SADISTIC his art was and will remain. He was trully one of a kind and so sad we had to lose him the way we did. I guess there IS beauty in terrible horrific trauma.
In a recent video showing Madonna’s daughter in several runway shows, the comments were hysterical. Lourdes most certainly would never be selected to walk in fashion shows if not for her mother! The comment that made me snort with laughter was: “She is charging at me like I owe her money!” That is the same vibe as the models in this show. When will the tide change to allow models to bring a little of their personality back onto the runway? I am tired of the stomping, scowls and bad posture! 😂
McQueen collections always had a narrative. This just feels like vibes. And not good ones at that. Mcgirr needs to show us he understands what the House is before trying to reinvent it.
Oh yeah. I want all of those things. I want to look like my peplum is a hobby horse. A turtleneck that doubles as a death tunnel? Yasss. Constantly going toward the light but angry about it. I do want the white pet scarf though. For real.
To be honest, I didn’t even pay attention to the shoes until I read your comment. When I went back and rewatched, though, I agree with you completely. Old and tired - and dangerous to walk in!
Exactly, like if this was a female designer, he’d be dragging it like he does Maria Grazia Chiuri, who, checks notes… is actually selling at Dior. Sarah was at the head of the house well before McQueen past so he needs to really mention her.
I wish these designer brands would end when the actual original designer stops creating, then we wouldn't have to witness brands changing, not staying original and losing its special creative magic. This would create space for new designers to flourish and grow, but more than often behind a popular designer brand is a huge corporation which owns the brand, and since it already has a huge audience and popularity they keep the brand going, for their profit. I wouldn't mind if the designers original designs would be reproduced and maybe have the majority of the profits go to charity after everyone has been paid for for their labor, if the designer isent with us anymore more.
By this logic, classic brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, gevenchy, and many more wouldn’t be in existence anymore due to the idea that we need to shut down a brand once the original designer steps down, its continuing a legacy of a designer not running for more cash grabs. The change in designer is gonna mean different routes and designs and ways they create, building a new iconic signature of the brand. Consider what would actually happen if people followed that logic.
I loved that he would put people in uncomfortable positions. From models being in restraints, or watching something beautifully grotesque. It was art. Not just well tailored garments. But they drove feelings. You saw an outfit and could see the story behind it. Now, it’s just well tailored pieces.
EXACTLY !!!! Omg could not agree more. Yess the pieces were wearable but first they were SHEER ART AND STORYTELLING. The moment he put that black model in the metallic restraints I wad SHOCKED. And the ripped lace dresses to make it look like r*pe victims referencing the violence Scotland suffered from England ...just...UGH
@@somebody7070 yesss. It was like he showed the disgusting parts of humanity in the most beautiful ways. It was thought provoking and showed his struggles in a world that just wanted “pretty”
@@Catalina-Winemixer had to do some digging and you’re right. In the 2001 spring collection named Voss; Jade Parfitt walked for his show and said “You'd do it for £100 with one eye blind and in five-inch heels; you really had to earn that £100!" Which calculating inflation would be about $200 (usd). Definitely not fair competition in my mind. But I do also see how some models like Naomi Campbell became close to him and after his death would post “…how much do I miss your don't f**k with me attitude , while underneath most gentle soul and biggest heart." In my opinion fashion is the place where art is the most collaborative. From what I have seen McQueen cared about the people who helped his vision come to life. He asked Debra Shaw how she felt about wearing the metal shackles. At first she was against it but after talking to him and seeing his meaning behind it, she walked in his show. TLDR: models should get paid more but I think McQueen was a nice person who didn’t take advantage of his models but strived to make statements in fashion.
I miss Alexander 😢 so much. He's the reason I'm an Advocate for Helping Suicidal Individuals. I just can't think of losing such talents in life, because people hit the bottom of depression 💔 😔. Being there for others going through struggle or loss. Is extremely IMPORTANT! Never brush off what "THEIR" feeling...you never know what thoughts they're thinking on the inside. 🤝 ✌️ 🤝
Sarah did that just fine. She however had an upper hand on investors as she was McQueen’s right hand designer and could make more creative decisions that didn’t always translate into profit. They cleaned house and installed a newcomer with zero power or sway, McQueen will now attempt to become just another cash cow making JW Anderson-lite clothes with a McQueen twist.
I will mourn the loss of beautiful walks every day until I die. I grew up watching Naomi strut like she created the earth we live on. Watching the gremlin walks in platforms is draining.
I don’t think we will ever get that beautifully haunting classic McQueen feel ever again unfortunately. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be more gag worthy pieces from his current team. The glass dress was really cool and special, I know he would have loved to see that on the runway, but most of the other stuff was kinda a let down.
I don’t know if it really had that McQueen feel to it, I mean, you want to look at it and KNOW without a doubt it’s Alexander McQueen. I was hoping for something outrageous, really hoped the McQueen theatrics would be brought back to some degree but didn’t get that 😭😭
This may make me seem like an old lady, but I miss the power strut walk of the 80's and 90's.Some of these walks looks like a horse trying to walk in a heel to toe walk
these are beautiful pieces but i dont think we will be into theatrics any time soon, it is said he wasnt given enough time to look into mcqueens archives and the way they did this show is a callback to McQueen's own debut. We still have a long way to go but i am here for it, i know sean is insanely creative (a skateboard in a tshirt wtf) and he can execute it, he needs time to search it and I have faith he will and hopefully brings his own twist to storytelling it he does
That shiny black dress with the wrapped hands is very good, I don't care if everyone panned this collection. Give him time to build things out. Even Lee didn't start at Plato's Atlantis.
I saw the Alexander McQueen exhibit in Melbourne last year. Comparing his masterful works to this, just pales. It's like looking at an off-brand McQueen and I would like to see a lot of historical references, sadistic, almost voyeuristic nature of his shows. I loved how provocative his designs were with a lot of historical references. I get suits and tailoring are his bread and butter when he was alive and he always had something exciting going on for his shows, which I loved about McQueen's fashion. His ability to shock and be in awe of his work inspired my love of fashion.
I somewhat agree. I think this debut show was as dramatic as it could be for a house the size of McQueen. And I’m sooo thankful Burton’s days are now gone. No investor would want the real drama of Lee’s era. So there will be no going back there ever. Let’s leave that to newer brands.
Once again I am pretty sure I’m in the minority. I loved the second look shown, the colorful glass dress, I loved the tailored suits, the other glass outfits, and I even loved the chunky sweaters with the exaggerated cowls. But I’m not knowledgeable about fashion and trends, and I tend to look at each piece as stand alone and not part of a cohesive collection. All I know is that I’d be very happy if someone gifted me any of the items I mentioned, because not only could I never afford any of them, I could never sew anything that intricate and sophisticated. But one can dream, right?
It’s their cash cow, I’d rather keep it around. That said, I really wish something more McQueenian was happening. Is the money side of things so significant, that artistic expression has to suffer this much?? Nobody is expecting exactly what McQueen did, but there are so many creatives, so many people inspired by him. Is it really that hard to follow his work? Sean only had 3 months, so it’s too early to discredit his work. A lot will (or should) depend on his next collection. Dilara Findikoglu would be a much better fit in my opinion. If you give her the budget and creative freedom, I can see her stepping it up.
I’ve come across some old Alexander McQueen photos on Pinterest from the runway circa fall 2009. It was serving equestrian meets gothic! It’s such a shame he doesn’t do it anymore.
Great tailoring? I saw non, this whole thing was horrible to look at. I feel bad for the designer because he’s going to get ripped for this. Just doesn’t seem like a good fit though. Simone Rocha or Dilara Findikoglu would have been great to take the reigns. Gareth Pugh would do a wonderful job as well.
Kinda agree with u! I think is a good collection. I don’t think its enough. I do think is well-made and polite and put together. Tho maybe too much. I miss the concept of McQueen and the playful narrative with the ugliness/beauty standards
I know it’s typically mcQueen’s style to tell the models to stomp angrily, but this is the first time I found it soooooooo distracting, I think it’s the way it can crumple the tailored outfits that were made beautifully but were not made to run/power walk in, like after first rehearsal they should have told them all to tone it down
The elements are there. The tailoring was absolutely delicious. However, the house needs to get back to its exquisite storytelling roots. But it also needs a director that can deliver it. We shall see.
When they said that Sarah is suck. Just look at this. Since his debut, it's already big NO. This is boring, ugly. We need John Galliano touch in this house.

Sarah helped further commercialize and keep it afloat, but the essence of McQueen has been gone since he died, imo
pull out your childhood trauma!!! love love love
SENDS me! I died and this comment is being typed by my reanimated body 😂
I HAD TO RUN IT BACK THERES NO WAY HE JUST SAID THAT LMAOOO
Mcqueen really does putting childhood trauma💀💀💀❤️❤️🩹
Would argue his childhood trauma is why he's gone so....
Let's be honest here, why the model walk like they were being chased by loan sharks? Chill.
Thank you some looked awful
All the models look frumpy & grumpy - not edgy at all. Sorry not sorry.
It's sooooo distracting
Your first time at a McQueen show?
Theyre told how to walk by the house.
It’s like all the models were told to angrily stomp down the runway like storming off during a fight.

I love that Alexander McQueen was a huge LIL KIM fan. ❤
McQueen wasn't destined to die of old age in his bed. Drama and poetry were his food.
This looks like a fashion institute Graduation collection.
Of failures...
OOP 😅
Why are they walking like me trying to get to my next class
I wondered whether stomping, angry models was required attitude for the show? But, yeesh.

Not that I can afford them, but it certainly doesn't make me want to buy clothes.
They’re supposed to look as scary as mean girls so you don’t make fun of their stupid ridiculously expensive outfits.
Are we all ignoring sarah burtons contribution to this brand since Lee and how exquisite she was? Like you need to be saying following “Lee and Sarah”
Yep, some of her stuff was incredible, on par with Lee's in some ways. And it was commercial, flattering , wearable at the same time.

😂
When McQueen died, so did the brand. It has not and will not ever be the amazing house it once was.
agreed. It lost its edge like a knife that hasn't been sharpened in years
The tailoring is impeccable.
Not childhood trauma 😭
Most people in general just don’t have the angst that was Alexander McQueen. I think we need to accept we will never get another Kate Moss No. 13!
WOW... Even if someone offered me one of those outfits for FREE, I WOULDN'T TAKE IT...LMAO
the controversy is that it's trash without McQueen himself
