Anybody else remember the episode of Rescue Me? When the cops had the firefighters vehicles towed from the ice arena? That show lead me to the research to learn this was a real thing. It’s a life goal of mine to go to this game
never been in a fire, but my dad was a volunteer. he said that out of all shows, especially today's standards, rescue me is the most realistic. it still had its show moments, but overall not bad.
Fwiw the cop actually isn't wrong about the extent to which the fire department and the police department's schedules differ. Pretty much every cop I know has said the fdny is a part-time job, and has complained about the long hours they have to work

You see 10 videos popularized by the media a year and project that onto an entire profession. I’m a firefighter and I would never want a cops job. They have to deal with the absolute worst aspects of society on a daily basis. You probably wouldn’t last one traffic stop on that job. He’s also talking about the civil service exam. That’s just the first step into becoming a civil servant at any job. They have a year long academy to actually become a cop. In NYC it might even be longer.

That’s not everywhere. Here in Florida both city police and county require 4 year college or 4 years military.
