His father worked the same time my dad worked as a NYC fireman. He would come home and throw his clothes in the hamper, which was in the bathroom. And the whole bathroom would smell of smoke. Those guys worked hard. The city was poor, a lot of unrest, many building owners burning their buildings for insurance money. My dad was stationed in the south Bronx at that time, one of the busiest houses because of all the arson. People watching them would throw bricks at them while they’re putting out the fires. I’m so glad they now get the respect they deserve. It’s a special calling, to be a firefighter. My dad was my hero. I love that this guy is an antibully person. I was bullied as a kid. Niels, my first thought at the end of your interview was that you are a hero. A man whose heart is to always be the best human being he can be. A man who deserves respect because he respects others. A man who will look beyond someone’s situation to consider there is more to the story. I am happy about the way you love people, especially your family. You don’t need to tell us about being put back in school or how many times you took the captain’s test to tell us you know your not perfect. The deal is you’re more perfect than most and I admire you. You’re humanity puts you in the same class as Mark. An exceptional human being who gives his all to be the best person possible. ❤

Currently in school to become a firefighter, working now as an emt on ambulances. This man’s words inspire me to no end. Thank you for all you and your father have done, you’ve undoubtedly touched the lives of many in the best ways possible. Stay safe out there friend.
I love this man. The way he spoke about his family and how they affected his view on the world and what he’s learned and done. His empathy for people others look down upon is heartwarming. He made me sad because I can’t be a parent and so my husband can’t be a father. But I think the whole world is better for having such a man as this in it. You could always be a foster parent, if you have love for a child. I used to work with a woman who fostered babies waiting to be placed. She was single and wasn't sure if she wanted children of her own, and she found it so fulfilling. She said she had to slow down taking them, bc she was getting attached and would be really sad to let them go. Even though her time with them was brief, I have to believe they have a better chance in life bc of her. She might be the only one to ever show them love, bc lots of people do it for the money. It's sad, but it is true. Anyway, just a suggestion. I have no idea what your situation is, or what you want from life, but I figured it deosn't hurt to throw that out there. Take care.
Niels embodies the greatest human qualities. It is reassuring to know that there are such courageous, wise, and generous people in this world. I am moved to tears by his story.
What a lovely human being. Thank you for your service, Sir. It's people like you, who's love is so mighty you can't help but stand strong in moments of great danger, that hold our society together. An angel among us ❤
Children feeling - or not feeling - worthy of the love of their parents plays a HUGE part in the building blocks of a person. Your children are lucky. ❤
The world needs people like this. Quiet warriors, empathetic badasses, people don't cry about not being recognized, who don't brag about how brave they are - they're just brave. Respect.
This man’s words have impacted me so much. I am from Australia I am going to the NYC in February I wish I could meet this man and take in his wisdom. My father walked out on me and my mother when I was a child, little did I know these wise words is something I crave.
Man, I love this guy. He speaks so much truth and is a genuinely wonderful human being. I wish everyone had just a fraction of the love and caring for humanity that he has.
What an amazing human being. For your courage, and for how much you care for others- family, friends and strangers. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our country, and for NYC.
This guy is how men should act he is a hero. He worked to feed his family and spent time with his kids. It’s not that hard to be a good father/husband. Just listen to this man! I love how he spoke about diversity and being friends of all races. Thank you so much for being you!!!❤
One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. He offers a lot of valid social commentary without being divisive, and strikes me as the kind of guy who would help you up off the ground, then say “alright, you’re on the ground. Now make it count”
What a truly gentleman. I agree we all need to feel love and be loved. I was brought up with a single parent. Never really felt I was wanted. Met my husband. Had a son. We were totally the family I missed in my early life. Sadly lost my husband in an accident. So my son lost his daddy and I lost my soul mate. My son is 26 years old now and is my best friend. Since my loss,Men have come and gone in my life but my love for my late husband still is as strong as ever.
Niels describes what I believe about this world. We are here to love, to let our kids know they deserve love. You are an amazing man. I'm originally from Staten Island but had moved to California. I never liked my New yourk accent, and the Staten Island accent has a particular sound. I tried to change that in my voice but when 911 happened and I heard the New York accent I felt proud of the strength, balls and toughness. My prayers are with you 🙏🏻 and all that have been affected by this terrorism. Thank you for your interview. I see you as a wonderful man.
What an incredible man. His delivery is polished, his dedication to his family inspiring. Clayton just said it best, the world would be better following his example.
Such a handsome sweet man with a big heart of gold. He mentioned his dad being a legit hero and not many legit hero’s left today. Niels u are a hero god bless u
Niels, you are the type of man that that boys and men in our society should look up to. Your kids are blessed to have you as a father, but I’m sure you feel that you are the blessed one. I’ll be 42 in a couple weeks and my husband and I still haven’t been blessed with a child. Children need a loving home and safe place to fall in this world and I want nothing more than to be that loving parent like what you’ve been able to be to your children. 🙏🏻 God bless you and your family!♥️
After becoming a father just hearing someone else's love for their children brings tears to my eyes. What a fantastic interview! Such a strong beautiful story.
this guy is like the heart and soul of America. thank you for your bravery, for showing young men how to harness their masculinity for good and being a faithful man. you’re a hero, sir
I can only hope that the FDNY or any other fire service around the world can get together with Niels to write training modules and maybe make a course that is like a world standard for cutting edge training, understanding, and teaching workshops etc. idk what would be the best way to go about it, to extract and use all the information from Niels into whatever works best to get the most out of people like Niels in all fields of Emergency Services and other fields that include urgent or emergency situations for those just starting out in early training, right thru their training course. Thank you for sharing that part of your story, and I look forward to part 2. Thank you, Niels. Thank you for sharing such a fascinating story, my dad was a firefighter here in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, for nearly 20 years before he had to leave. You helped me tap into my experiences as a little kid, also being absolutely fixated on being a firefighter like my dad. Was lucky enough to go on two call outs when I was only real young. We’re talking 40 years ago so laws and regulations were not anything like today. I’d get to go to Dad’s work for a Sunday and other days. Listening to this in the early hours of Monday morning, thinking about good times I remember with my dad. (Dad was very ill for many years and I proudly cared for him for a good while, so a lot of my memories that were wedged into my brain were of him very ill and dying.) Just now I got to remember him being larger than life, I had all the gear, and one of dad’s old helmets, it was amazing. These days were, and still are, some of the best childhood memories I experienced. Every time I see a fire truck, with it’s lights and sirens on, I think of Dad in a special way because he was so loved and respected by his company, And Dad loved and respected his company, and lead by example and would never ask one of them to do something he wouldn’t do for them. It was a long time ago now, but when I’d ever chat with a firefighter, I’d ask them if they worked with him and they’d giggle or look at me in a certain way, and tell me a story about him, about work or about his twisted sense of humour. I’m sorry if I’m making this sound like a tribute to my dad when it’s about another firefighter, but you reminded me of things from 40 plus years ago and it was so good to remember some of those memories by listening to your story. Thank you for your service. Thank you for sharing your story and I look forward to part 2, as yours is one of Mark’s best. You know you’re in for something interesting when someone clocks 51.37, little did I know just how fascinating it was and how much of a treat it was for the little kid inside me. For that, gentlemen. I thank you both ❤❤ Ps thank you for helping to take me back to some memories that I thought I’d forgotten about and returning to some that I don’t visit very often at all. It really did help me. Funny what gets you. Take care and stay safe. Michael
YES especially on everything with modern chemicals. Even a vehicle FIRE is very toxic. You can have high building collapse or a single vehicle Fire, and you can get Cancer.
oh my god. I'm a little more than a minute in and I feel compelled to hug this man. I am a born and bred new yorker and I have so much respect for this man and his family already. holy cow
Good dude. Coming from Queens he's just like one of the guys from the neighborhood. My brother-in-law was from the "Fire Factory" in Harlem and he passed from 9/11 related cancer Easter Sunday 2020, miss him alot. Guys like them are a dying breed! Miss those Christmas parties with my kids playing on the trucks..Steven Brickman was a NYFD legend! RIP brother 🙏😢
What a beautiful soul. Hes been through so much, yet still finds a reason every day to brighten the world for others. Thats how you truly win at life, I believe.
Much respect to all our firemen, those paid and those that choose to volunteer. Your bravery has never gone unnoticed. As many others, I watched the firemen running into those burning buildings on 9-11 while others were running for their life.
Thank you for your service Niels. I was stuck underground in a path train on 9-11. I'm lucky I was running late that day. The train before mine was crushed. I appreciate seeing this story today (9/11). Many FF's made the ultimate sacrifice. He correctly said NY'ers are the salt of the earth/ salty sweet.
I absolutely love this man and his stories. Thank you for your service in the FDNY. I'm from NJ and was raised Catholic. Listening to you reminds me of growing up in my neighborhood. I also had many friends that were members of our local FD. Best men I've ever known! And thanks for mentioning men who don't take responsibility for their babies. I've been a single mom since my son was born and have been raising him on my own for over 4.5 years. It is my mission and joy in life to raise an Irish gentleman. Every time he opens the door for a girl or woman and says aloud, "Ladies first," I smile with pride. We don't have much, but there's always roast and potatoes on Sunday and a whole lot of love. God bless you and your family. I'm so sorry for the loss of your FD family.
Hey Niel if you see this and I really hope you do I just want you to know that you inspire me to be a better man. Thank you for your service and being you. God bless.
Oh man. What a lovely story. This gentleman reminds me so much of my father, he was also a firefighter/emt. I swear firefighters are a different kinda hero. Always admired their courage, love, and kindness. You are an amazing man, keep up the great job Niels 👏 ❤
Mark your channel just keeps restarting my faith in humanity. What an interwierv, another one i will be rewatching many more times. Thank you for posting this for free and thank you Niel for sharing youir story, you are a hero.
What a deeply enjoyable interview, Mark! Many thanks for such deep, meaningful, and wide-ranging work. I'll never forget Niels Jorgensen and am eager to see Part 2!
He's really the definition of a real man. What a role model! Sadly not many of hes kind in this world anymore, if any. I have a hard time crying, but this champ got me hard...
I absolutely love what he said about parenting. He's exactly how my parents were: giving up absolutely everything so you can provide for your kids. Your wants no longer matter once you're a parent. (Needs are different of course) So many people my age and younger just don't get it or don't care to get it.
It's truly disheartening that we can't function without our cell phones. Even homeless people have cell phones. I'm definitely guilty of it, but I can remember a time that we lived beautifully without it! I wish I could show that time to my kids and grandkids.
I've met a lot of people in my life, who I would love to have replaced with this guy. He's one of the people who will sacrifice himself, and rush in, in a world full of people who will save themselves, and rush out.
@@13TyresAs a FF I have no idea lol but it goes back a long time. It’s mostly in good fun. We have department hockey games and they can get pretty wild. The FDNY/NYPD hockey game was actually televised on ESPN. We’re not quite at that level but you know you’re in for a tough game anytime you play the cops.
If you are blessed to have this man in your life tell him thank you. The world would be a better place if there were more men like him. Well done, our Father’s good a faithful servant. Your crown will be heavy laden with jewels.
Thank you, Niels. You are one of the true unsung American heroes. I salute you. Words don't exist for me to express how much I appreciate you and respect you. You were put on this earth destined for greatness, and you didn't fall short of that greatness. Again, thank you, sir.
I should have married a Firefighter. They hold the exact same values morals and humbleness and the whole helping people thing. I love the backbone they carry with them. This is so refreshing. I'm single and 65 so hey wish I knew a man exactly like this. Blessings
God bless you Niels Jorgenson. Your kids are lucky to have you as their Father. It is very rare for a person to step in for a stranger when there's been an injustice. Thank you for all you've done.
This really should be a PSA for young men. Play this interview in schools and make the politicians watch it too. Success has a formula and this is the foundation.
This man is a huge part of what makes this country. All respect on earth to this amazing man. And thanks to Mark for allowing people to see this type of man at this time
I’ve been all over the world. NYC men from the boros are a very very special breed. So many military veterans. FDNY. NYPD. Construction guys who built the greatest city in the country by FAR. Good athletes. Just solid. Smart. Tough as NAILS but most are not mean hearted. Italian. Irish. Polish. Greek. Black. Latino. Old school. Big big city. Full of 9 million stories. This man is a piece of gold.
Stand up loyal men like you sir is what our world needs. You’re an inspiration and hero to everyone. What a profound interview. I wish you all the best. ❤️
What a gentle giant you are your soul is one to admire. Thank you for your service and wisdom and words!! You touch my heart ♥️. I’m so glad I listen to your stories you taught me a great lesson 🙏
My brother was a firefighter in the Bronx for 20 years. God bless men like you and him. Wish I could give you a big hug. Thank you, truly. You guys are my heroes.
Mark when you get the chance you must tell Niels of his impact on us. Please. He is loved and admired in these comments, and has my respect. What a guy!
What a role model! Wish you all the best Niels. I'm a psychiatrist working on a acute care ward. Had lots of humbling and difficult experiences, some involving physical violence. As a healthcare worker I respect the very hard and demanding work firefighters do on a daily basis. But hearing good hearted people like you makes it a lot more enjoiable and, for me personally, meaningful
Niels love your name and you more!!!!!!!! It is so beautiful to see a real man, and you are exactly that, a real man. Thank you for all you have done in service to others. And most of all for being a wonderful Dad and husband.
My neighbor and family friend was a firefighter on 9/11, lost a lot of friends that day. I've lived in the city my whole life, and my family grew up here and have lived here for most of their lives too, so they were all there on that day. My aunt saw the worst of it, she can still vividly remember people jumping, the towers coming down, all of it. I don't think anything can make people forget that day. If anything, I'm at least glad that stories like Niels' help bring out memories, good or bad for many people here in the comments. This is an amazing interview.
This man is probably the most righteous man I have ever seen! There are not many people in the world left that are like the this.. he is so freakin profound. BE AN INSPIRER NOT AN INFLUENCER! Wow... that’s amazing.
I can't stop watching him. He reminds me of my Dad. He was technically my stepdad but he came into my life when I was 4 years old and I lost him suddenly to a stroke in 2016. He was only just turned 64. Most devastating event of my life. Other than making myself go to work, I didn't get out of bed for 3 years. But this man so much reminds me of him, I'm entranced. This guy is a blessing.
I am blown away. This fine gentleman reminds me so much of my own dad and late granddad. I couldn't agree more with just anything he says. And I could listen to his stories for hours. Thank you for your service, sir! And thank you for sharing! And thank you, Mark, for bringing Mr. Jorgensen to your show.

Niels embodies the greatest human qualities. It is reassuring to know that there are such courageous, wise, and generous people in this world. I am moved to tears by his story.
Love the distinction he makes between influencer and inspirer. He’s the latter. Great interview!
NIels, you are an inspiration. Your message of not tolerating nor becoming a bully is one that should be amplified.
It’s easy to become a father but to become a parent is whole level of love and care. Amazing story!
THIS type of man is what this country needs more of.
We need more men like Niels. The way he talks about his children and gets teary eyed, true hero. Thank you for putting your life on the line for us
This guy is a wonderful person! Great outlook, also so proud to be a american in this unappreciative time. I could sit and listen to him for hours..
Most definitely.
What an absolute gem of a human being. The biggest most compassionate heart. Such a great testimony, thank you
Niels describes what I believe about this world.
My dad was a fireman. The way this guy describes the way you're treated as a child in the fire station is spot on!!
P.S. You speak a lot of truth here.
Crys, thank you for your kind words. Praying for you to receive your gift from God of being a loving parent. Peace and love always- niels
As a retired NYPD detective and 1st responder on 9-11 ..Thank you sir for your service and this absolutely great interview. FIDELIS AD MORTEM....
What a beautiful man. Thank you for the difference you’re making on the world.
I thank you both ❤❤
Ps thank you for helping to take me back to some memories that I thought I’d forgotten about and returning to some that I don’t visit very often at all. It really did help me.
Funny what gets you.
Take care and stay safe.
Michael
❤
What a man. Rarity in my opinion. We need a few hundred million right now.
What a beautiful soul. Hes been through so much, yet still finds a reason every day to brighten the world for others. Thats how you truly win at life, I believe.
Mr Jorgensen, Your morals & values are golden! We are the same age and it is so refreshing to see a genuine good man, Bless you!
Much respect to all our firemen, those paid and those that choose to volunteer. Your bravery has never gone unnoticed. As many others, I watched the firemen running into those burning buildings on 9-11 while others were running for their life.
What the world needs now are fathers. Fathers just like this.
My god, what an inspiration guy. I wish this was the full interview, I was completely sucked in…then it was over. Eagerly awaiting part two
Hey Niel if you see this and I really hope you do I just want you to know that you inspire me to be a better man.
This guys is so awesome. Very articulate and inspiring. He reminds me so much of my dad. His kids are really lucky to have him as their dad. ❤
As a Police Officer for 23 years, Firefighters and Police often give each other shit...but this is a stand up guy!!
Why is that. Is there a reason or is it just banter ??
@@13TyresAs a FF I have no idea lol but it goes back a long time. It’s mostly in good fun. We have department hockey games and they can get pretty wild. The FDNY/NYPD hockey game was actually televised on ESPN. We’re not quite at that level but you know you’re in for a tough game anytime you play the cops.
@@mplslawnguy3389 👍🏻
If you are blessed to have this man in your life tell him thank you. The world would be a better place if there were more men like him. Well done, our Father’s good a faithful servant. Your crown will be heavy laden with jewels.
❤
Thank you, Niels. You are one of the true unsung American heroes. I salute you. Words don't exist for me to express how much I appreciate you and respect you. You were put on this earth destined for greatness, and you didn't fall short of that greatness. Again, thank you, sir.
What a great man! You have so much empathy and love towards others thank you for what u have done !!
I should have married a Firefighter. They hold the exact same values morals and humbleness and the whole helping people thing. I love the backbone they carry with them. This is so refreshing. I'm single and 65 so hey wish I knew a man exactly like this. Blessings
What a powerful description of the importance of fatherhood and how a lack of love and commitment has impacted society.
God bless you Niels Jorgenson. Your kids are lucky to have you as their Father. It is very rare for a person to step in for a stranger when there's been an injustice. Thank you for all you've done.
I wish there were more men like him. Real salt if the earth, genuine guy. Sending him prayers and love love love for a long happy life!
Hands down, best interview ever! This man said things that inspires me and also resonates as profound truth!
What a beautiful interview !!!
This man is a massive inspiration! I wish everyone would watch this.
This is a real man. So thankful I have had the opportunity to listen to his incredible story. Huge respect. Society needs more men like Niels. ❤
This man is probably the most righteous man I have ever seen! There are not many people in the world left that are like the this.. he is so freakin profound. BE AN INSPIRER NOT AN INFLUENCER! Wow... that’s amazing.
This is exactly the way I see life and how the world is becoming. Mark thank you so much for what you are providing to us....
One of the best interviews, Niels is a hero of our time
I agree with you
What a gentle giant! His gift of story telling was so vivid and brought his stories to life. I felt as if I was right beside him as an observer. ❤
Seeing a Man like this gives me faith in humanity. I love this man…
