    You're right. The vitamin C face serum and sun screen from litteleextra rice berry have really improved my skin. In the past fifty days, they're the only things that have helped me. I've already finished 1 bottle of each. With my sensitive, dry skin and my tendency to not do much for it, these have been a lifesaver. They feel light and absorb into my skin easily. My complexion appears brighter, even toned, and younger. Even blemishes and acne marks are starting to fade. My skin feels much smoother and more hydrated
    Now I'm looking forward to find a toner that suits well for my skin too.

    Had to pause at 4 minutes in. The Ordinary say that none of they do not sell their products on amazon and they don't have any sellers on amazon so I wouldn't buy my vitamin c powder there. I've bought so much stuff on amazon pertaining to be one thing but very far removed from the actual product e.g. olaplex no 4. Bought on amazon and bought from a licenced retailer and there was a world of difference in the texture of the two. Looking forward to this new recipe Kimberley. Thanks for keeping our skin as healthy as it can be.

    Love this recipe! Ive been following cosmetic dermatologist Shereene Idriss Channel she is based in NYC. You mentioned that the glycerin doesn't serve a purpose other than slip. According to according to the doctor glycerin is wonderful for holding in moisture and hyloronic acid only dries the skin. So adding the glycerin to the vitamin C is an excellent idea!! Thanks also for the tip on topical versus Ingested vitamin C, I didn't know that!

    • @auricia201
      @auricia201 2 года назад +4

      True, Glycerin is a good Humectant, I also like the idea of adding it to the serums for hydration purposes!
      But btw, Hyaluronic Acid is also an humectant. Dr. Idriss has a particular disdain for it, but Any Humectant used without an occlusive will dry the skin out, not just HA. If you check out other dermatologist and cosmetic chemists, they don't put HA completely aside.

    Since your first diy Vit C video I have made my own and used it together with TO Resveratrol and Ferulic acid. It is so inexpensive that I use it on my body too. I do however adjust the PH-Value to just below 3,5 with a tiny bit of baking soda (saw it on Labmuffins video on diy Vit c) - that way it is less irritating on the skin.

    • @kalondiacasey
      @kalondiacasey 2 года назад +2

      Lene, can you tell me how much you use for a batch? I've read and heard that Vitamin C needs to be between 2.5 and 3.5 PH to work on our skin.

      @@kalondiacasey My recipe for a Vit C serum just under 20% (50 ml bottle) is: 1,5 teaspoon Ascorbic acid, 2 teaspoons of water and mix then until the ascorbic powder is dissolved, then 1 teaspoon of glycerin and then I top up with water till there is 50 ml and mix again. Then I check the PH (with ph strips) and adjust with baking soda (very little) to a ph just below 3,5. I keep it in a dark dropper bottle in the fridge and it is good for at least 2 weeks - by that time I have used it all up (because I also use it on my body). Hope this helps🙂

    Hi Kimberly. I used the Timeless Vit. C prior to making my own. I made your recipe for the Vitamin C 20% and added Vitamin E oil to it. I keep it in brown 1 oz. dropper bottles in my fridge. I just looked at the date on my bottles and I made this last batch March 16, 2021 and they’re still as clear as the day I made them! No yellowing or discolouration. I’ve been using the Resveratrol from the Ordinary but now that I can combine it with my Vit. C even better! Thanks for all your effort and help. Love from a Canadian 🇨🇦 Prairie Girl 💜

    Hi Kimberly! Thank you for the updated recipe. 🥰 I’m one of those people who turn an unflattering shade of orange (including my nails) when I use DIY Vitamin C recipes that don’t contain Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid. In fact, I thought I had to use a Vitamin C derivative until I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Timeless Vitamin 10% C Serum. Holy cow…did it ever make a HUGE difference in my skin after just a few uses and no orange anything! I’ve been using it on my face, neck, décolletage, and the backs of my hands. I immediately noticed how much more glowing, soft, and smooth my skin was, but the biggest change was on my hands. I haven’t been as diligent with skin care on my hands and have been shocked with the increase of crepiness and wrinkles on the back of my hands. I’m 62yo and my face doesn’t look it, but my hands (and my neck) surely do and maybe even older. 😰 After using the vitamin C serum on the backs of my hands every day, that crepey skin and finer lines are nearly gone! GONE!
    I knew vitamin C was good for evening the skin tone, fading hyperpigmentation, and necessary for collagen production, but had NO idea it would have this much effect on the wrinkles and texture of my skin. My hands are also softer and I believe they’re doing a better job of holding hydration. Is that even possible?!
    Obviously, I would love to bathe in this stuff and now that you’ve given us a recipe, I want to start using it extensively on my body where I have some old sun damage…my arms especially. Did you say you have a pdf of your new recipe? I looked in the description box and also on your blog and couldn’t find it. I’m just thrilled to have another recipe that shouldn’t turn me orange 🍊 and costs a fraction by DIY! 🥰

Maybe adding more Ordinary products wich they have preservative on it would be better, or adding the Vit C powder to the Ordinary mix???

    I've been reading the ideal formulation requires a pH of >3.5 to even pass the skin barrier. Have you tested this out with pH test strips?

    I would think that is fairly oily. The ordinary resveratrol is oily as is that vitamin e. Do you wear it under make up?

    Hi Kimberly. I have been using L’Oreal pure Vit C (in a tube) for about 2 months. It has helped my discoloration a little but not as good as I had hoped. I’m going to screenshot the recipe and write down the new one. I’m going to try this as soon as the new tube is gone, or maybe I’ll do both. If you add a little more glycerine and make it thicker will it be harder to absorb into the skin? Also, is there an expiration date on the powder? Thanks so much for this video. I’m 62 and beside you people would say I’m 72. I’m eleven months younger than my sister and Everyone who doesn’t know us always thinks I’m older. I want my face to look my age at least or younger! I’m very excited to try this. You are so beautiful and have such great skin. I want to be pretty over 60. Much love sweet lady! God bless! P.S. I heard a dermatologist on utube say that over 10% was a waste, that 10% is the ‘sweet spot.’ I’m assuming from your research that you didn’t find that to be true?? Thanks again ❤️🌹

    Thanks for the recipe. I am having some difficulty getting the water and vitamin c to mix with the vitamin E oil. Am I doing something wrong? It's staying as an oil glob in the bottle. I know oil and water aren't supposed to mix, so any pointers you have would be fantastic! I really want to make and use this!

    I would recommend getting ph strips to check it to make sure it match the skin and add a preservative (optiphen, germaben, etc are just a few). Anything mixed with water needs a preservative. Overall great video and lovely smile.

      I must respectfully disagree. Vitamin C serum needs to be acidic, 2.5-3.5, to be effective.

      Yes to the broad spectrum preservative! Without it you're serum will grow microbes in a matter of days and you'll be rubbing that on your face.

      You must remake frequently and not let it get oxidated. Maybe we’re you using while it turned in color? Just a thought.

      Nope I made small batches and used it up before it oxidized which you can tell by the color. Unfortunately I had to return to my tried and true Timeless brand. Not as budget friendly but my face doesn’t look like an Oompa Loompa.

    I’ve been following you for a little better than a year. I whipped up your Vitamin C Serum & also your Hyaluronic Acid and after showing your videos to a couple of friends, gave each a set. I did at the time add Vitamin E to your Vitamin C recipe. They both loved the products, as I did, & claimed they made their skin feel softer. (I must tell you that one friend never used products other than a face wash & the other has used cosmetics for eternity.). So, my question is why are you using different products for your new recipe? I bought every brand that you used in the original recipe & still have. I know you’ve been a fan of The Ordinary since I’ve watched your channel but still I’m confused that you’ve added more Ordinary products making the cost a little more than your previous recipe & have abandoned some of the original products. Thanks…Love Pretty Over Fifty…Just ready to whip up another batch but Confused!

    Hi Kimberly,
    Has your hyaluronic acid serum ever smelled bad after about 4 days? Like baby spit-up? I’ve followed your recipe, taken care with using clean utensils and pump bottle. The first batch lasted a month. But the second and third batches have smelled like baby vomit after just a few days, and I’m concerned about possible bacteria. Can you help me troubleshoot this? I love the results otherwise! Thanks!
