49ers started 3-4 before winning 7 of the next 9 to finish the season. 1985 was a more rough year for the 49ers, although they had most of last year's roster plus Jerry Rice.
This was also one of three seasons in the 1980s where the 49ers didn't win the division, but this is the only season where we didn't win the division but made the playoffs.
They had virtually the same roster back from the previous yr, it's just hard repeating, and the ball doesnt bounce your way, they had some weird losses with funny bounces, had they not gotten beat up at the end of the yr, they might have given the Bears a tough rematch in the playoffs if it had happen.
Good squad. By season's end though I think Montana, Lott, and Craig were really roughed up. Should have still put up a better fight against the New York Giants on the road though.
Dwight Clark may not have been the fleetest of foot WR, in fact, he was comparatively pretty slow - but he sure could go up and get the ball. He had a great year in 1985. Great WR.
Never Forget Freddie Solomon #88;
Legendary 9er and Overall Great Human Being R.I.P.
Roger Craig should be in the Hall of Fame

Hard to believe that the 49ers didn't have a single playoff win from 1985-1987. Similar to Tom Brady and the Patriots from 2008-2010.
brady didnt play in 08 tho

It's always tough for a defending Super Bowl Champion to repeat
Bill walsh is the goat of offensive strategy.
Just a small mention of the GOAT, Jerry Rice. Granted it was his rookie season.
