It's true that a special bond forms when you give a hurt bird the help it needs. I have one that must have sprained something. I didn't separate her exactly, but put her in an area the rooster couldn't/wouldn't reach. The other hens would go in and sit with her sometimes. I got out the chick feeder and waterer and hand fed her treats. She seems to have healed after about a week and went into "gen pop". Now, about a year later, she seems to remember the special care she received from me and makes a point of coming over and at least looking me directly in the eye and suffering my stroking of her feathers. Even without mealworms! lol

A weasel got into my chicken run and attacked one of my red stars. My son rescued her and we didn’t see any visible injuries except missing tail feathers. The next day I noticed her limping and the other hens started picking on her. I kept her away from the others but eventually she couldn’t walk. We continued to feed and water her keeping her in a tote on the back porch. She had stopped laying and didn’t look like she would make it but she did. She is my favorite now and I named her Gimpy. The other hens still won’t let her be so we ordered a new coop for 2 chickens. She will soon have her own palace! I just love her to death!

I really appreciate this video. And the fact that you also did a 1 week a 2 week and a 3 week update on her recovery. That helps a lot other people just upload the video. What they did for the sprain or the injured leg but never do an update so we could see if what they did work. I have a precious little silky. We don't know what's wrong with our leg, but we splintered it. Which is a very young chicken. We're not had to put her in a cradle because she couldn't stand on the leg at all and she was just laying down and she was having trouble eating and drinking because she couldn't get to the food

The same thing happened to one of my barred rock pullets, she got attacked by a dog and there was a deep laceration in her leg (we could see the bone). We bandaged the leg, but then took off the bandage after a couple of days )it was getting in the way) We also made her a little "chair" to sit in where her legs would kind of dangle, she liked to sit in that some, and we also made her a little nest in the kitchen with food and water. She made a full recovery, just like your hen! It makes me so happy to see chickens make a full recovery!

Excellent job. This happened to me years ago with a lovely blue hen named Latte. She was young like this and I had put leg bands on them. It got caught in a bush and she must have pulled it. These things always happen on a Sunday it seems. I splinted it and my vet saw her the next day. Fixed her up and she walked again. Everyone loved her at the vet. Most people didn't know she was a chicken. They would ask what kind of bird she was. She had the tiny pea comb.

HI! My hen got caught on the fence and was found dangling upside down by her leg. The leg has no obvious injury, and she will eat anything we put in front of her. However, the toes on the injured leg are not responsive, and she cannot stand on that leg. The leg will move some (I think?). This was yesterday. She is in our house in her hospital crate. We wrapped the leg in several layers of vet wrap - again not sure if this will help (can't see a break or fell it). When your chicken was down, how long before she began to stand up again? Hoping that he leg is really sore and that she will gradually start standing.
