I don’t even drink alcohol but this movie made me feel things. The satisfaction, excitement and then pain, frustration and then happiness. It’s beautifully executed and I’ve started watching other Danish movies because of Another Round. Love from Malaysia!

I've got so much love and respect for those two men. So intelligent, well spoken, talented, nice and handsome as hell! Wow! What a package those two make....
Vinterberg is so right about this film being best viewed at the end of a pandemic. I saw it days after receiving my vaccine. I am so grateful, so fortunate. The world lost so much in the last year. But this movie, especially the ending, gave me hope for the future and reminded me how important it is to live life fully. The pandemic had the same effect.
Since 2006, Mads Mikkelsen has always been Le Chiffre to me. This is the first film I've seen him as the main actor and he knocked it out of the park! An incredible performance.
Going through an awards/festival season during covid sucks so bad. Working hard on a movie and not being able to properly share it with the world is a shame. Love Mads tho, so I'll watch this one as soon as I can.
Fortunately it had a good run in theatres in Denmark, before the 2. wave closed everything down. 100.000 tickets in the opening weekend (Sep 24..28, 2020) and more in the 2. weekend. Weirdly, IMDB lists a December premiere with details behind a paywall.
My favorite way to describe Danish drinking culture is to tell how graduating our version of high school is celebrated. You see, what we do is load up the graduating class in the back of old military trucks along with several cases of beer and then drive them around for the day while the kids drink as much as they can to reach certain milestones or achievements which if they reach they get to cut different shapes into their graduating caps.
Congratulations to Thomas Vinterberg and Mads Mikkelsen for receiving today's OSCAR NOMINATION FOR both Best Director and Best International Film (Denmark) for Another Round, announced a few minutes ago Live. 15 March 2021. Good luck & may you win both!!
As a child of a Swede, I can say that Scandinavian people drinking is a sight to behold. It is pervasive and they indulge in copious amounts that borders on frightening.
While I mostly agree with what you said, the Danes relationship to alcohol is different from the rest of Scandinavia, we're are more akin to that of the Germans and the British in that regard than to Norway or Sweden. But I totally got your point :)
Any moment now, I was thinking, he will ask Mads "what are you drinking"... :-) On the other hand, I understand that this might hit some cultures, but I hate that the focus of the interview was only on drinking, where actually the movie is all on opening up and be your self, live your life.

Good interview. Just saw the film and liked it. But, I wonder if the message that Mr. Vinterberg wanted to convey was obstructed a bit by the troubles that the characters found themselves in. They pulled back from total excess sure, except Tommy.... but then at the end I was doubting it was going to stick. I don't personally have a problem with drinking from time to time, but I can't handle very much. For Mads Mikkelsen's character, I would have loved to see him learning to be free and fully himself without so much alcohol - I know it's possible! It seemed at the end of the film that he was going for it again and it didn't feel like a celebration to me, and it wasn't clear that he was happy about the texts from his wife either.... maybe that was intentional, not sure. Makes for an interesting conversation. Much love from 🇨🇦.
Ain’t no shame in talking to people. It took me till I was rock bottom and all I can wish is that I did it sooner. I still drink, but no longer to self medicate
It's a shame these too aren't stretched more on the questions. I guess it's a short interview for charity and largely light hearted. But I think there's much more depth to the film.
Did not get the celebration of life part when watching the movie, felt like an actual alcohol trip from the relaxed and happy early stage to being full on drunk to the aftermath.
Actually, it was inspired by the stories of the director's daughter who told her father about stories of the drinking culture she saw within the Danish Youth. When they were making the film, the daughter died in a car accident and the film is dedicated to her.
