  • Mads Mikkelsen shares insights from his diverse career at the Marrakech Film Festival, reflecting on the balancing act between mainstream Hollywood roles and European arthouse cinema. Mikkelsen discusses the advantages of this duality, attributing it to a privileged position that allows actors like him and colleague Willem Dafoe to be viewed through different lenses by global audiences. With a background steeped in experimental theatre and dance, Mikkelsen expresses his enduring appetite for challenging, varied roles, a sentiment echoed in his admiration for Dafoe's work. During the interview, Mikkelsen touches on his collaborations with director Thomas Vinterberg, acknowledging the unique and communicative relationship they share. He delves into the nuanced portrayals of characters in his films, from the villainous to the sophisticated, and the influence of his Danish heritage on his choice of roles. Mikkelsen also addresses the industry's typecasting based on accents and the broader implications for diversity in casting. The conversation shifts to a broader discussion on the role of women in film, both in front of and behind the camera, as Mikkelsen calls for greater utilization of the immense female talent pool sidelined by the industry. He also recounts his early career, from auditions where his words were less important than his energy to the ethical considerations of role selection. Mikkelsen concludes with thoughts on the importance of empathy in portraying complex characters and the need for nuanced storytelling that reflects the shades of humanity. His interview offers a glimpse into the mind of an actor who masterfully traverses the cinematic landscape, from the icy isolation of "Arctic" to the intoxicating dance of "Another Round".

    He’s so well spoken, and while that comes naturally for a man, in that age such as Mads, he forms his answers in a way that is so sophisticated and answers a question in more than one way. I think it’s that specific skill of his is what makes him such a great actor in playing multiple types of roles.
    His broad perspective and empathy gifts him his talent, which aids in how he has honed his acting skills. The fact that he openly speaks about the perspective of women talents in the film industry and vocalizes about how there should be more movies that has female talents, without the aim to masculinize them, and simply maintain their essence of femininity and womanhood, is very heart warming to see and hear. How can he get even more perfect?? I also notice how he never hesitates to mention the women in his life when he can- specifically his family. I will always stand by the person who said Mads was created as an apology for the existence of shitty men. I will never hesitate to get an opportunity to watch this man be in his element during scenes, he genuinely is a one of a kind actor who is still quite underrated .
    (Can anyone please tell me where I can watch the necessary death of Charlie Countryman?? I have been searching for weeks😭)

      Why do you think so? I think his acting career is great. He made many absolutely beautiful european films, he also made Hollywood franchises. And he's loved by critics and audiences)

    • @LecterMikkelsen
      @LecterMikkelsen 7 месяцев назад +7

      @user-kr1rp9nk9d he's underrated in the sense that he works like hell and gets so little recognition I feel like his work should get more and he's so much better than some of the famous rubberish Hollywood actors. His passion is bigger too.
      And the way he surging now, he should be getting more involved in projects.

    Yes, Mads stick to the Nordic way. The films are so much better then these clown ass movies they are pushing in Hollywood. I have introduced many people to his foriegn films and they are amazed…i first seen him years ago in the Viking movie where he doesnt speak one word. He stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. I was Soooo happy when i found out who that talented, beautiful man was. It was worth the wait.
