In his Inaugural Address, Kennedy pledges to support liberty, commit to allies, avoid tyranny, aid the underprivileged throughout the world, and strengthen the Americas. Kennedy challenges Communist nations to engage in a dialogue with the United States to ensure world peace and stability. The speech is best known for the words: "ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country."
January 20th, 1961
50 years ago today, I sat in front of my TV, courtesy of a snow storm that closed Lincoln HS in Brooklyn, and watched this. What a thrilling experience for a young American.
JFK was a great US president. Never again shall we witness such elegance and eloquence in the leader of the free world. If this man's speech doesn't move the depths of your soul then you're not human. He was an amazing leader.
An amazing speech. Unfortunate that it was abridged here. There is a wealth of historical context and commentary that is lost but the essence is still powerful even in the shortened form.
I wish top hats were still in fashion.
This message has never been more relevant.
Remembering a remarkable young man a Fine President who gave us young people all over the World, Hope for Our Futures. Not to be, but never forgotten.
Gives me goosebumps... today it seems, unfortunately lost conviction for what we believe, unwilling to stand up for one another as we once did and when we do its for a mockery. Patriotism is misunderstood, treated in vain and flaunted like a cheap top.
Happy independence day from a heart in the UK and soul of the British Raj.
He was the last of the great presidents. After him it's slowly gone down hill.
I think that great speeches like this one (and I have a dream and Mindless Menace Of Violence and so on and so), aren't based on specific programs that anyone wants to introduce, but by a general non-descript guideline that all people can at least understand if not agree with.
There may also be some significance to certain speeches because of their rhythm and timing, a tactic that many leaders today just don't have anymore.
the claps sound like a wobbly metal sheet
Awesome man. What a shame.
What together we can do ' FOR THE FREEDOM OF MAN'
The greatest President my country has ever had.
An American Hero

Ask not what your country can do for you ..Ask what Ron Paul can UNDO for your country..
dam straight :(
Kennedy was certainly an inspiring figure, and he was great with foreign policy, but he didn't get a single piece of major legislation passed his 3 years in office. If you want to talk about a president who as had the most profound, lasting impact on American society, measured in concrete, lasting legislative achievements (the Great Society, civil rights etc), you need to be talking about LBJ.
the good never last in this country
Well ya. JFK really wanted to avoid the faction splitting of the Democrats, so he had to be somewhat conservative + progressive during his presidency.
RIP JFK
i may be young but i know that kennedy was
one heck of a president .
hopefully obama follows in his and lincoln's footsteps =)

@WitnessNFLInside well not exactly for the africans. part of it was from dwight and lyndon. because dwight helped the little rock crisis. and lyndon signed the civil rights movement. so he did 1/3 of that

@MissMelanie2006 If you loved this country as much as you so blantantly choose to speak with such hatred ,animosity, and damn right ignorance towards its leaders(which just so happen to be ANYTHING BUT white and republican) I garantee it would be just about Perfect in most aspects
Abolish secret societies...
