They recruit at a pretty high level for about a decade now and only managed to beat ohio one time in that span. He's just not the guy to win championships for PSU.
College football now more than ever is about $$$. It’s not the 80s with bag men and boosters. It’s all out in the open now. If you spend the money to go out and get the players you will have success, if you don’t, you won’t. It’s really that simple. I don’t give a flying F who’s calling the plays. If the other team has superior talent at nearly every position you could have the ghost of Knute Rockne Bear Bryant whoever and it won’t make a difference. Ironically the only reason these games are generally close is BECAUSE of Franklin (recruiting, coaching hires) not in spite of him. Oh and BTW the University knows that so he’s not going anywhere.
The man gets you between 9-11 wins a year. 1st and goal from the 3yd line and no TD that is on the offense, if you cannot get 3yds on 4 tries that is on the players. I hate when these talking heads talk about firing coaches with this many wins. Who is going to replace your coach? Maybe secure a better coach before firing one that has gotten as many wins as Franklin. Addressing some logistical issues in State college may help in recruiting like an airport with direct flights to states where there is a lot of talent. Maybe better NIL could help in recruiting, that is on your Athletic director.
@@jamessanders2785 first and goal and poor play calling, that's on the coach. One Franklin lifetime win against OSU- all those games are the players fault? BS!

The list of schools that need to fire their head coach because they can't easily win a Natty is absurd. Ohio State is on that dumb list for crying out loud... Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas fire'em all and replace them with the comment section from youtube.
Buckeye fan here, as long as Franklin is coach we always have a chance to win Over the years he has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory repeatedly. Thanks.
James Franklin is best coach in the world at beating the teams he is supposed to beat. Dude never beats the teams that are respectable or decently good tho
The Franklin story about not being able to win the big game has become a heavy burden on him and his program. They are the best team in America the last 10 years to not win anything. It reminds me of how the golf world would list the best players to never win a major. The pressure keeps building. This is how it is with Franklin
@benjaminhaughney9930 I ain't gonna lie, ever since that whole Jerry Sandusky scandal happened way back in 2011, Penn State have just never ever recovered from that. It's like they been cursed every since that scandal
No one seems to understand or know Ohio state pays their players over 28,000,000 in NIL their total payroll for football is higher than the Oakland A's and right with the Pittsburgh Pirates so how can teams compete
If they keep Franklin and his staff, what do they think will change? That low red zone series was embarrassing. Some of the worst play calling I’ve ever seen. Warren blocked on 3 of 4 plays. Never touched the ball.
He threw a pick six, fumbled in the end zone, either of those plays could have cost them the game, probably will against the kind of competition they'll face in the playoffs. So yeah, there's definitely work to be done.
PSU has to know what it is by now - a good team that will never be great and never again win a natty. They can consistently win 10-11 games a year, make a really good bowl game every year, and now, even make the CFP regularly. So firing him and getting someone else will change this how?
Penn State has always been one of my favorite college football teams but damn I know those fans have to be sick going through this year after year. Like dude James Franklin has been there for a decade and still can't win big games like 1-10 against Ohio State, 4-16 against Ohio State and Michigan combined like how does he still have a job up there
Franklins record against top ten teams is horrendous to say the least! He can still save some kind of face this year by winning last 3 games playing in playoffs for first time. Other than that he needs to go, but Penn State powers that be like having a coach like ferentz that gets you 7-9 wins a year! Franklin has made oodles of $$$$$$$$ without ever winning any of the big games!
You're in it to win it. If you're not going to win it, then it's no use being in it. Not much difference between where we are at and winning 5 games. It all feels the same. We Are ... LOSERS.
Penn state will never fire franklin because they’re fine with getting 9 wins a year against average teams & never winning the big 10 or going to the playoffs. For years people have said he’s a good recruiter and an average coach, they had 3 unsportsmanlike penalties yesterday, that’s coaching, bad time management, that’s coaching.
The CFP committee tends to focus on wins. Who have you beaten? Good win for Ohio St and Oregon. Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame have knocked off ranked opponents. Penn St? Not one now that Illinois has picked up a 3rd loss.
And replace him with who, Finebaum? Franklin has won the majority of his games only losing to OSU and recently Michigan! Penn St should be elated to have him!
PSU FOOTBALL IS NOT A DISCIPLINED TEAM. THEY WALKED OHIO DOWN THE FIELD WITH PENALTIES. PENN STATE HAS A LINE OF HC's THAT COULDN'T BEAT TOP 5 TEAMS, NOT JUST FRANKLIN.
OSU should be 2 behind Oregon. The number one team beat them by 1 point at home. UGA’s loss was to a two loss Alabama team, which one of their losses was to an unranked team
Check out teams that have replaced coaches when that coach loses one or two games and see how often they improve (rare) Often they end up hiring another coach in three years with a record much worse than two losses.
Once again a playoff spot will be wasted on Notre Dame. George is going to lose to Ole Miss and Tennessee. Texas has only beat a bunch of high school teams
I'd fire Franklin just for hiring Allan. Give up 27 to Bowling Green and 30 to USC! Defense looked lost all game. Kotelnicki is a gimmick coach. Have him scheme against a team that's too good to fall for high school plays and he's lost.
Had no dog in this hunt but neither offense looked particularly impressive and Ohio had the advantage to be able to hold on the offensive line seemly whenever they wanted too.
I am in Ohio State fan. Yes, please fire James Franklin.. We got another team in the Big Ten to worry about now.. listen to the so-called fan base fire Franklin. Smh
These comments are ridiculous. Finebaum is absolute trash. It’s an institutional problem not a coaching problem. I don’t care who ya have calling the plays. There’s a reason why Franklin beats everyone on the schedule except the teams with significantly more talent. Guess what! That’s how it f*cking works! Ya know why Bama UGA Ohio State etc are always in the NC convo? Because they go get the best players! You think that all the teams that go undefeated or one loss year after year do so because they out coach everyone on the schedule? No! It’s because they have more talent than anyone else on the schedule. So Franklin with his level of institutional support goes out and beats everyone on the schedule except the two teams that dwarf PSU in that area and everyone wants him fired? These games are only close because of him not in spite of him.
They want Bama in because of the money they can gain off the fan base with them being in the playoffs....but let's be honest Bama is not the same Bama and will probably lose in the first round of the playoffs...
Penn State fans need to pump the brakes on firing Coach Franklin. Remember Nebraska firing of Bo Pelini who won 9 games in all 7 seasons and took them to bowl games. Since he was fired Nebraska has had only one season of 9 wins.
Exactly. People are not doing their research on this series and realized even JoePa had a losing record against them. Just look at the record over the past 20+years against Ohio State.

I don’t understand how Ohio state has the best odds to win the natty Oregon didn’t play well against them left at least 14 points off the board and wasn’t healthy and still not healthy like what
A fair observer can see many opportunities on both sides that each team could have scored more points. It was a one point game, and very even. The home field advantage was a factor. Let’s see what happens if they meet again on a neutral field.
I agree, Oregon beat Ohio State more than the score indicated. They missed an extra point and a field goal. They also bypassed another chip shot field goal. Also, Ohio State 1st score came after a blown interception call where instant replay clearly showed the Oregon defensive back intercepted the pass and Oregon best defensive player a defensive lineman never played due to an injury.
