    How on earth did this real life Superwoman escape the attention of the Hollywood megastar factory?? She is stunning in every aspect, I waited for decades to see her name appear in circles much larger than the elite climbing circles and the rarified air that they breathe. Yet we have clowns and wannabes taking up the slack with their ‘reality’ bullshit in all forms of media, wtf??

    • @akseli9

      Irony is that she came back to climbing after quitting it in her early 20s, through French stunt cinema industry!

    • @akseli9
      @akseli9 5 лет назад +8

      It's her choice. She never wanted to do anything she calls "fake", like climbing Eiffel Tower on camera and such. She carefully chooses her climbs for quality and rarity.

      You are right. The answer to your question about "how" she has escaped from the medias, and Hollywood... , seems to be that it's definitly not her world. In the interviews (I'm french, I understand what she says) she seems to not bother about that stuff : ok for some money for one or two commercial, but not ok to change anything in my life. As a climber, she's a bit from another world, as a human being she's very cool.

But movies were rare at that time, when I climed in my 20ties in the alps and the south of france. Now seeing her moves 30 years ago in free soloing makes me breathless. Catherine is absolut incredible and one of the best climbers in history.

    I applaud the extraordinary skills of this climber........but I am appalled by the totally unnecessary bit of drama with the faked knotted rope getting snagged. There are two things that stand out clearly here.....1) A world class climber would make sure that the rope would not unfurl in such a manner as to leave knots and.....much more obviously!.....the camera crew could have simply un knotted the rope! Excellent footage ruined by this bit of fairy tale.

She has proved many time her ability, knowledge and control in climbing AND mountaineering. But, I don't think any climber will put their belay device on the ground for the specific reason has been shown in the video ! If it is stuck you are fu**** ! Going solo has been her idea since the beginning of the climb, the rope, only for the drama :)!

      Yeah like what's the cameraman doing? Just untangle it!

      She had no choice, I suppose the cameraman could have untangled the rope. I think it was all stage managed. She is obviously good enough to have not used a rope at all.

    Some people made models, some draw pictures and other had to climb it. François Truffaut may have given Catherine some special information.

    Incredible no nerve courage and excellent close up details. How was this filmed, did they have camera drones in 1992?

    • @julianpenfold1638
      @julianpenfold1638 3 года назад +1

      I think there are camera operators who also climb positioned at various points on the climb - this was certainly the case for the Old Man of Hoy climb - if you watch the full film of that, which is well worth it - you will see how they did it.

      @@julianpenfold1638 Thanks, that clearly has to be the case. Skilful editing makes it look as if she wasn’t shadowed that closely.

      @@jeromek2125 Yes indeed I did wonder why you can't see them in this one or the Old Man of Hoy film. Clever stuff. Going up a sheer face with a heavy camera can't be that easy either.
