      I tried to lay it out in the order in which I learned :D
      But really, after basics, then learning what each thing can do, it's harder to say what is more "advanced"... it's more like just different configurations at that point haha

      Tried to accompany the uber basics with some useful stuff as well.
      Didn't want it to just be like "here is a lever.. It turns dust on and off..." X]

      @ bro the difference between Java and bedrock is KIIIILING me, I play both just depending on where I am and I’m getting the physics crossed up constantly😅 is there any good series on it? If not I’d recommend you do some videos on it bc you’re a great teacher. I’m sure you’re busy tho just an idea for the future as many people have the same problems as I do :)

      Tbh the main reason I've drug my feet is just because I really don't enjoy using java anymore XD All of the insane inconsistencies bug me so much X]
      Like how in java: pistons are actually invisible doors.
      Glass is a top slab. Actually all transparent blocks are top slabs.
      Regular pistons require block updates to toggle.
      Dust has a delay but appears instant speed, & so much more.
      That would actually be a good video for me to work on atm so I'll try to get it did >:D

      @ nice! Glad it was a good suggestion, but fr don’t rush it. I’d bet that video specifically would take quite a while to compile all the differences to get it right😂 and yeah me too, I used to like Java more but bedrock generally makes more sense to me, likely because some things are more logically consistent. The only thing that absolutely drives me nuts is the randomness in the order of how things fire and that some redstone components run on different tick cycles. it makes some things so confusing that should not be confusing at all, or some things that should work just don’t.

      @tristanphillips8937 Yesss i agree. When i 1st played bedrock i just thought they finally make redstone user friendly because it suddenly made sense hahaha
      For bedrock's 'inconsistency' one way to visualize why it seems random on occasion is that it is parallel wiring where as java is series.
      So on bedrock if 10 dust activate a lamp the dust all activates at the same time. But on java if 10 dust activate a lamp it goes, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,lamp.
      What this does is if things are activated simultaneously on bedrock, since the game code can't actually say "activate it all at the same time" the activation order is random. Running things through a repeater will prevent the simultaneous activations, but since dust is parallel the length of the dust is irrelevant in regards to activation order.
      Now tick activations for specific components do get annoying if you neeeeeeed to exploit that. Like how observers activate on different game ticks than most things. But in general that matters more on java, since everything is always sequential including dust. You have to calculate tick order and count dust etc etc. Where as on bedrock, simultaneous will be rnd anyway so no need for calculating or counting, just split what needs to be sequential and ignore everything else

    Thank you so much! I’ve watched a lot of redstone and they are either super basic only or crazy advanced skipping steps and not explaining what’s going on, critical to learning redstone! I had been struggling to do a new redstone design and watching this clarified things and I knew exactly how to solve my problem!
    I had two sets of pistons I was trying to operate with one lever but the issue was one set was extended and one retracted, then they alternate! Your redstone torch block staircase cleared that up fast! Thanks! ❤😊

      I remember having that same issue back when I was learning. Either people were like "this a button, you can press it...." or they were like "lets look at how binary functions can be used to create 8 bit sectional data in 4 pulse groupings" ............. o.o lololol

      It can be allot of fun figuring stuff out. I had the most fun after I learned a few basics and discovered tflops. After that I could (badly) make like gambling machines & other custom ideas. Even though they were horribly massive, I've never felt so accomplished and proud haha. Even now that I can make optimized builds, nothing beats figuring out those 1st few contraptions

    I’ve been a long time Java player. Bedrock breaks all of my stuff. I’m trying to figure out how to take my stuff back to the stone age and it still work so that I can still do alright.

    I honestly want to say, there aren't too many Redstone tutorials that discuss the how and the why, and instead those ones tend to focus on the what. I'm really grateful for a series like this that explains how Redstone functions and not just a tutorial of what blocks to place and where.

      @@HarpKoupenov Tbh it should!!! Especially electrical engineering! Redstone and electricity is almost the same. Except for like amps, hertz, watts etc you have signal strength. Which technically doesn't even matter unless you want to use it haha
      Like like rslatch, tflipflop, and or not gates, etcetc are terms that all come from electrical engineering XD
      Learn how to build a lightswitch irl, now you know how to build it in mc XD lolol
      Good luck with college though!!! I looooooooved it. The environment was so unique and inspiring. I'd love to go back to school just to be in that environment again!!! Make the most of it while you can :DDD

      @@natlegal1 kinda sorta but not really! Haha
      All the basic mechanics are exactly the same. But some components act slightly different.
      Like pistons in java: can't have dust placed on the piston. If the piston fails to activate when it receives a signal it won't activate until that signal turns off then back on, where as in bedrock if a piston can't activate, it will just activate when the obstruction moves as long as it still has power. & also in java a sticky piston will leave it's block pushed away (like a regular piston would) if it receives a 1 tick pulse.
      Java also has quazi activation, which allows components to receive a signal diagonally down from active dust. (Super odd)
      Redstone torches burn out on java from even the slowest repeating signals, where as on bedrock the torches won't burn out unless they receive like 7 signals in 1 second.
      Droppers/ dispensers in java fail to activate if you spam them with signals, where as bedrock's will activate regardless of the spam.
      Stuff like that. But regular mechanics are all exactly the same :D
      Basically you could boil it down to, in bedrock your machines can be faster, more compact & needs less precision. In java you have to slow things down just a bit, & be more precise, IF you're using chains of pistons, or fast clocks on droppers or torches.
      But like opening door, making a music box, etcetc all simple things are exactly the same

      @patsczz Yussss. All the fundamentals are the same. I've been meaning to make a differences guide for a while now, just keep getting caught up with requests haha.
      But most of the differences are about components. Like pistons are the most different. In java; cant place dust on pistons, pistons dont redirect dust into them, pistons fail to activate if they fail when 1st powered.
      Or glass in java is a slab, so redstone can't travel down it.
      But like signal strength, running dust, comparators, repeaters, strong & weak power, most gates & circuits, etc etc all are exactly the same :D

    So, redstone on slabs works as a diode, this would have been so usefull when I was building my machines a couple of months ago.

      @@maximilianoabarca Yuss exactly :D Kinda like a repeater in a way, but with a vertical requirement rather than strictly horizontal. It's also nice that it is cheaper as well. I tend to default to repeaters to have directional control, but i really should use slabs at those times just to make it a little cheaper haha

      Did not work as in the dust broke? If so, on java you cannot place dust on top of pistons.
      Most of this info will apply to java. But java has a ton of details that break the rules "/
      I have been meaning to make a java/bedrock difference guide. But the biggest difference is pistons. They behave completely differently between versions.

      @@OmLedu If I had a redstone dust attatched to a block, the surrounding lanterns would also light up
      But if I replaced it with a piston, it would not carry the weak power
      The redstone did not break and I was playing on bedrock

      @@KelvinWarren-eh9jp ohhhh i understand! So a piston is a transparent block & as such can be activated as a component, but not weakly or strongly powered as a block. Hope that makes sense X]
      Basically a piston is like a piece of glass, but can be activated

      @@KelvinWarren-eh9jp You know... i don't think any of them really do lmao oops. The 1st one kinda does. Like glass and slabs. But never went into more detail than that :o

      Really though off the top of my head, only transparent blocks I can think of are stairs, slabs, glass & pistons. Then all the stuff that redstone cant interact with anyway, like flowers, carpet and stuff.
      Really an episode just on pistons would prolly be a good idea.

    Great video, looking forward to the series! One thing that's good for people to at least be aware of, is the concept of Producer, Consumer, and Game ticks (P, C, and G ticks respectively), which for people not trying to exploit them, can result in a lot of "why the hell isn't this doing what I expected?" because of the visual and mechanical timing implications. A good overview are the following:

      @@mccabeea Yeah, since this video just covers the basics there aren't many examples I could have shown aside from like opening a door with a button. Plus I wanted to keep the 1st episode as short as possible to quickly lay the ground work for jumping into the rest of the mechanics. But! In the next episodes I do go over examples of all the mechanics that we talk about :D
