- We invited Tyler Larson, aka @MusicisWin, to his local GC in Nashville to scope out Spring Guitar-A-Thon 2023 and turn a $500 budget into awesome guitar rig upgrades. Rather than just grabbing a new amp or guitar, Tyler checked out strings, pedals and straps, important pieces that can have a big impact on your setup. It's a Guitar-A-Thon, not a sprint ;)
I wonder what the limit is when it comes to upgrading a rig, or when instead of upgrading it, it will be downgrading it.
Rigs and guitar collections and funko pop collections are never "finished" they are all a work in progress. Trust the process.
My DigiTech Element Element XP, Donner Looper Pedal and Line 6 Spider 112 Red Face 50 watt Amp are all that I need. Although I do have fourteen guitars, a violin (Beatles) bass, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, a cigar box guitar and an Appalachian dulcimer. Oh, and an electric keyboard.
They must’ve built this guitar center just for this video… I’ve never seen one so stocked or busy

Honestly for a home guitarist.. Line 6 pod go is your best bang for buck. Great budget modeller which will do pretty much everything you need as a home guitarist. There are amazing patches to download for free online and running it into some half decent speakers or headphones will really be all you need.

i've been down the rabbit hole of guitar and guitar tone for the last 3 years. One of the things I know for sure is Elixir are the only strings I'll ever play for the rest of my life.
At this point we are just watching you go shopping. But ey we are all here for it! 😂
When i get in here i listen to the Science, so i can purchase the right equipment. I listen, but i run to the purpose i like in this Area. The purpose is about me having fun. I don't like it, but i have it. When i Science out i have every piece of equipment i have ready to bang on another well equipped Band.

I would buy pedals. There's nothing more fun than integrating a new pedal into your rig. Pedals rock. Especially rock pedals.

I own that MXR pedal and you missed some pieces to it. It's got modulation AND it's got Fuzz. It is a wicked sounding thing. And, with a cheap expression pedal, you can have two settings and flip between them.
Nice! There's also a cobbler across the street from there.
I would put some dirty fingers pickups in my 2019 sg tribute.

I upgrade my rig with strings every other year! Strings on the amp, strings on the cabs. Strings everywhere........
How would I upgrade MY guitar rig? First thing I would do is stay as far away as possible from Guitar Center.
I bought a good compressor for my bass rig . I never have it off now , but I've not tried it on guitar yet .

Snark Tuner, 5 packs of various strings, 5 bags of Flow picks, a new strap with slide locks and a strymon Flint OD. Three Ecc83s tubes and a 6 pack of planet patch cables.
Patch cables and an isolated power supply. Might be the bran flakes of guitar rigs but SOOOO important to making all the candy that much sweeter.
Must be nice to just grab a guitar off the wall and try it. I never go to ours anymore because they’re all locked (even the bottom row) and someone has to track down a set of keys whenever you want to try one. I was there over half an hour and was only able to try one guitar.

Neah.... 😐 Any great pedal for 400$ or 4 pieces by 100$ with some strings will always be a pleasant refreshing for your pedalboard. Tyler, you could do this kind of video every day, buying pedals, with no scenarios, no editing, but really, you didn't do a good job preparing this one 😢
