    I can’t loosen my freehub !! I even used a 2 feet pipe piece to give the Allen key more leverage but the bolt didn’t move a bit. Is there any possibility that for some brands you need to loosen clockwise?

    • @aeyde
      @aeyde 3 месяца назад

      No this one is probably built in to the hub

  • @arthurleal2674

    Thanks for the video. I needed to verify that I am turning counter clockwise to loosen that bolt. and it wont come off. I removed the freehub casing, bearings, etc but the main part is still in there where the pawls ride or attached too. I have it in Blaster penetrating oil and will give it a shot tomorrow again. I am using 11mm for this one. There is about maybe 1/16 movement left and right when I try to remove it. Any ideas? Maybe I just need to buy a new wheel and move on on this project. I dont know if I can get a pipe wrench and grab that main part and try to loosen that way. I believe the freehub is geared to match the hub to lock in place (for no slipage) and that bolt holds it in place to the hub - so I am thinking that will not work: the bolt has to come out if I got that right.

      hi. mine too. the thing is that its way to tight. do you now if its really necessary to remove it, or its possible to open from the drive side with that 2 points special hub key? thanks

    • @arthurleal2674
      @arthurleal2674 7 месяцев назад

      @@Gledii Same issue here. I am using a 11mm hex bit and a breaker bar but it wont come off. Today I noticed the 11mm is starting to nick the grooves (strip). Its looks like some kind of tripple spilne bit you can you but dont know exactly what size. I order a M11 tripple square spline bit but was too small. That cost 10 so if I buy a kit its about 14, then maybe I try other ways to take off like gripping the freehub since its damaged already and trying to get off. If anything I will buy a new wheel but cant believe its so tight and I am turning counterclockwise. Luckly I have 3 good bikes in case one is down for maint. Live and learn - the bicycle hobby!

      @@arthurleal2674 this isn't acceptable. I decided to give up as it was taking too much time/cost. I got a new pair of ERC 1400 DT Swiss and the hub just come off with the cassette by pulling with the hand. Grandma service work, as it should be

    • @arthurleal2674
      @arthurleal2674 7 месяцев назад

      @@Gledii That 2 points tools is for taking the freehub apart (where you can see all the small bearings and pawls) I just had learned this when I took that apart but it didnot completely remove the freehub. And now I am seeing from the rotor side another hex size in the hub that I can put in there and maybe this can loosen the entire freehub. I had never taken one of these off but same here. I agree with you on just maybe buy a new wheel or wheel set. I just dont have any jumbo allen wrenches and amazon has a like 11,12,14,15 &17mm (8 total) for $25. I am already in the hole for $5 for 11mm bit socket, $8 for 11mm tripple square hex (didnt work too small) and $25 more if I buy the jumbo allen set and still dont know if the freehub main part will come out. Maybe just bette to do what you did and buy the wheel and my own picking of freehub ( I want one that has louder clicking) like the Dt Swiss. I'm gonna look up them wheels you bought.

    Why would there be a steel washer between the hub and rim?

    • @hobbyless4089
      @hobbyless4089 Год назад

      you will need to tighten the freehub body to the rim (or hub essentially), when you compress the freehub you want the washer to compress or take most of the load. I'm not a pro, but that's my best guess.

    Hey mate, great video. I’ll be using it for my issue. However I have the TX-505 hub on my ebike, but I’ve seen a lot of people having issues with the aluminium freehub that Shimano use, so I want to get ahead of it and replace it. Do you know where I can buy a steel freehub that’s compatible with the TX-505 please?
