Don’t let the price and small package fool you-the iPhoneSE 2020 is a powerful phone that punches well above its weight. And since nobody told us that we couldn’t take apart two iPhones at once, that’s exactly what we did! We’re examining the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE in a quick side-by-side comparison before we move onto our full teardown next week. Spoiler alert: this is more than just an iPhone 8 with iPhone 11 brains, but you’ll have to watch to see why!
Since teardowns in quarantine take a little longer than normal, we thought we’d give away an iPhone SE to thank you for stickin’ with us. (Don’t worry, it’s not our teardown unit!)

unironically yes. That's part of what helped bringing the cost down. Because there was little to no R&D to be done on the design or for that matter most of the phone

No not really, se was not very good
@@earnistse4899 It is very good, but that was not my point, they completely missed the mark about how it can be so cheap, it's because they can use the old factory tooling and the workers don't need reeducation, they just swapped the line from iPhone 8 to SE, plus they get a lot of the components cheaper, when they have bought so many of them for years before...

According to the iFixit written guide, no it didn't work. They also confirmed that the whole 3D Touch grid was removed from the panel
Good to see battery replacement won’t be too difficult. I’ve recently replaced the battery on my 2016 SE and was quite happy to use it for another year or so, it still works well enough for me. But I’ll probably get the new SE and pass the old one on to my wife to replace her 5S, knowing I’ve got a phone that will last 4-5 years or so. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Then why do they include those worthless slow chargers with the phone? Everyone is just gonna throw it in the trash.
@@lehelzelenka207 1) they did too many to just throw them in trash or 2) the advance in manufacturing make them much cheaper over time = More profit
@@lehelzelenka207 The 5W charger is fine for most people who plug the phone in overnight. People throwing functional items in the bin are a problem. They should make the slightest bit more effort to take it to recycling or re-use shops lol

A much better iPhone than I initially thought. Glad I got it. Thank you for the break down. It’s more phone for a great price! The battery is fine for normal use but keep a charger handy just in case.

Apple was smart with both SE iPhones. They can use identical assembly lines, parts, and machines, and use recycled iPhone 8/5S shells.
Hey iFixit! Yes it's true you do the get 4 times the LTE speed with the iPhone SE 2020. I have tested it side by side with my iPhone 7.
Here were the results iPhone 7 : 20 Mbps Download
iPhone SE 2020 : 70 Mbps Download in the same location at the same exact time
I’m curious get the SE screen put in on an iPhone 8 running iOS 12 or below and see if 3D Touch works.
I'm probably not the only one who ended up getting an iPhone 11 (prompted largely by a Sprint $15/month deal, which is half price, meaning the price of an iPhone SE) after all the hoopla. I finally ditched my POS SamStung J7, and the screen size is the same, though just about everything is way better (which is understandable, given time and price.) Mostly though, this was driven by how much I hated my SamStung, and how much attention the iPhone SE was getting. Ultimately, I couldn't deal with the tiny SE screen. A little over 48 hours in, and I'm *so glad* I upgraded. Pretty much everything is better on iOS, and no more SamStung support BS.
Is it possible to take iPhone 8 and replace the logic board with SE 2020 and some other stuff and have iPhone SE 2020? If so how about a video about that.
How about the 3d touch , did it work on SE's digitizer after it has been put and tested on the iPhone 8?

Actually the screen itself is capable of 3D Touch but the feature also requires a specialised sensor interface chip on the logic board to function and the interface chip has been removed from the SE so that will be a logic board difference between the two phones! :)
Just curious, is it possible to switch out the ssd chip? Possibly having a TB on an iPhone would be awesome

For most people a refurbished old model will do most things of a newest phones as illustrated here with the use of older components

Matthias Van Duysen I had Hello Siri active on my iPhone for a while. One day Siri activated while I was watching a documentary on TV. I rewound the DVR and isolated a phrase spoken in the documentary, “in the city” as the cause. I kept replaying that part of the documentary. It triggered Siri 3 times out of 5. I also found “Hello Siri” only activated Siri about 3 times out of 5. I turned off Hello Siri after that.

Why should you? It's the same hardware. The better image quality comes from the A13.

It would honestly be absolutely no surprise if they changed the battery connector just to make spare parts less available for both directions.
So if SE 2 camera is really better than 8 on hardware level then does it mean iphone 8’s camera could be upgraded?
Also can you include in you full teardown that how much SE 2 parts would be needed to convert your iphone 8 into a SE 2? The most major cost would be from motherboard, i’d like to know what else.
