thats what i wanted i had wished that wemby was able to go to charlotte during the draft so he could team up with lamelo to me thats a great duo (seemingly perfect fit)
Imo melo just needs a vets vet. It would have been nice if cp choose to go back home and play with the hornets. From what I see with melo the biggest thing that is holding him back aside from injury is his mindset. Dude literally goes out there and plays nba games like he’s an AAU player. If he starts thinking the game he will be a completely different animal and the same beast 🤣(Kobe commercial with Kanye)
Your takes are very insightful... and I concur with a few points. Especially the ZO2 point. His career really took off as a 3D Playmaking wing. They are used to playing in a free flowing offense...not ball dominant. Excellent points. That pass with Mason Plumlee is the perfect example. That give and get back is devastating.
As a hornets fan someone who’s been watching near enough every match lamelo’s played in I do agree with some of the stuff you’ve said especially when it comes to the midrange and finishing at the rim. But the off ball stuff you’ve mentioned and reducing the amount of time the ball needs to be in Melos hands, I completely disagree with. His first couple seasons where he made rookie of my the year and all star injury replacement reserve. He was playing in that sort of off ball role and the team was functioning fairly well with the likes of Hayward rozier as the main guys. The issue is, that type of basketball when it came to the play in and then the game slows down and you really need players who have had those Half court reps and pick and roll possessions, lamelo looked completely lost in that situation and it was 100 percent down to him not getting in those situations enough. These past 2 years now, he has become the primary handler for the team, it has benefitted him greatly. And now with the changes done in front office and the trades made in deadline and since the recent drafting of Brandon miller, we are in a position to compete and we will benefit greatly with him as the primary handler, primary creator and him as the ball dominant score first guard. As he gets more and more reps in the pick and roll it will only benefit us in the long run. We will make playoffs this year with the roster as presently constructed.
seems like we agree I'm not saying get him the ball less, I'm saying get him the ball in more advantageous positions. He's not Harden or Trae but he's 6'7 with crazy range... you get him the ball on the move more the game becomes very simple for him. I'm not sure how you can disagree he should be used off-ball more. He can be the primary ball handler/ creator and still do that in different ways. Get him in motion and get him going downhill. Again, seems like we agree I find it hard to agree with the first statement and disagree with the second one of course he's going to get better at finishing, mid-range. I just think Peak Melo is scoring first and the offense should be more geared to getting him open than getting everyone else open. It's not a mutually exclusive thing
@@BURDENS1 I don't think you understand what I'm saying here. I have no issue using him off ball more, but I'm talking primarily in the playoffs/play-in tournament on those pick and roll possessions, he should be getting that many touches on ball to, he needs those reps as he did not receive them in his first two years. But with the way the roster is currently constructed, I am talking about playoff basketball. In those situations, you could see bridges being used as a secondary playmaker, Brandon miller too especially in transition, you could even use bridges in the high post like a Jokic, when the defence is shading Melo and Miller. All in all if you've been watching the games regularly as I have you would also have seen Lamelo making strides in his finishing, there is still room to improve obviously. In a 10 game stretch with him as the primary ball dominant guard, he was averaging Luka Doncic level numbers, 33 point triple double. That is the level he can reach especially in a playoff environment with him as a ball dominant guard. So yeah we are disagreeing in that sense, sky is the limit for Lamelo and this team and for me, as long as he can remain healthy it's only a matter of time before he and this roster gets into a conference final.
Also I forgot to mention, Brandon Miller is that guy, he is going to become an All NBA level talent, that's if you've been paying attention tho, its very clear to see, he is special
spurs should do everything they can do get him , him and wemby would win atleast 3 championships in their career if they started playing together in the next 1-2 years
Ehh I just think that's easy to say when you're drafted to a team with absolutely 0 structure. Obviously compared to Steph is not fair he'd been around the NBA his whole life but the Hornets have been the most poorly run team for a minute now. It's clear he's someone who needs more structure but I don't view him as wilding out, I think most guys drafted in that situation would have trouble having that professionalism
@@BURDENS1but some revisionist history there. What structure did the warriors have when Steph was drafted there? They were a fun team but had no measure of winning
@@t-god2439 very aware of the beginning of Steph's career as he's my favorite player... he didn't want to go there, his teammates were hating on him... They were awful. Steph wasn't playing in a system which suited him until the 2014-15 season. Still shot over 42% from three the years before that. LaMelo is playing with a franchise that gives him free reign- he is guaranteed minutes. Not really comparable. Steph is the greatest shooter of all time, LaMelo is a well-rounded franchise player for a rebuilding team.
@@BURDENS1i disagree, new front office, new coaching staff, new medial team. why leave now if his new contract is just now starting and the team is much better structured than ever before
@@Wave1of1 let's just get him on the court so we can actually see how it's structured I'm sure they'll be fine I just think it's much more likely he'd hit his ceiling somewhere else. I like a lot of the pieces but we'll see

The Hornets were in New Orleans when that was home

He’s too isolation heavy in the half. Primarily coming off of handoffs then PnR ball handling he would be so much better because his high processing.

The real question should be how does Melo an Atlanta accent when he from chino hills 💀
his pops is from south central california, he just talk like what he grew up around with family. not just chino hills
I think melo doesnt have that dog in him he comes from riches. Hes my favorite player but hes never had a driving force or tgat dog mentality
He’s a great player the hornets are just a trash organization
I feel like for lamelo to see success he will have to leave charlotte. Thats just not an organization with a winning mindset
Very much agree
