Deine ruhige natürliche Art, auch das du Fehlschläge zeigst, machen deine Videos so sehenswert. Liebe Grüße aus Magdeburg / Deutschland
I'm with you. 1 and 3 are the 2 that I like most, but I didn't necessarily have a favorite between the two. I think it may depend on the type of furniture for me.
I am joining Team number one. It is the best of the group. It does require an investment in equipment. For finished without the equipment, I go with the oil.
I thought at first that I liked the high contrast between the two woods best, but seeing the finishes together, I'm going for number one. The gloss suits the style and the wood tones balance better. I guess I'm a purist.
And just like that I’m here. I’m so glad I found you and your channel/s Barry. 🥰 I really like number 4. Hope that helps you going forward but as you say everyone likes different things and these are yours so you get to decide the finished look. Which ever way you go it’s going to be a beautiful outcome on the piece you’re restoring.
I like the tinted lacquer ‘factory finish’. I have a ton of Acclaim. All purchased at thrift stores, rummage/garage sales or flea markets. What I’ve collected ranged from very mint-factory-fresh, to spray painted, all the way to structurally damaged, major-repair-train wrecks. Im sort of a vintage furniture purist, and I most appreciate the original designers vision with these kind of pieces. But, to each their own!
1. It’s the standard for a reason. Very good protection. Uniform look. Grain pops. Best of all worlds. Special need may require different approaches, this truly is a great baseline.
I prefer #1 because of the glossy finish, but I adore #2 Candlelight. The other finished tables you showed (Candlelight with a glossy finish) were perfect, in my humble opinion.
I like #1 with the more glossy look and it shows the definition between the wood colors. #2 would be a second choice with a more subtle look. All very interesting.
I like number 1 and I also like when you use that expensive wax that you brush on that comes in a jar I believe. It's so satisfying to watch when u use it. I'm in love with it. I like your videos so much they are very soothing and bring me some calm. So thanks for making these videos they always look so beautiful when you're done.
Thank you for this comparison. I have unintentionally collected 5 Acclaim tables and have felt a little paralyzed about how to start. This has been super helpful and, as always, massively educational. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Favorite is probably #2 candlelight, finished. It's surprising that the sides will lighten up that much. This first phase makes them look like there will be zero contrast but your finished example is gorgeous.
*Beautiful collection* ... ♥️ Loved seeing the different finishes side-by-side. And I appreciate that you left the area's in-between each of them untouched.
Hello Barry, Love your content and how you explain your work. You do such a fine job on both. I feel like #1 is the winner for me. That one shows the grain off very well, along with the contrast.
Just watched a very interesting video and would like to recommend it to you. I think you might find it interesting too. Mad Man Restorations restored a Lane Acclaim table and used grain filler. The finish on the end result was absolutely gorgeous! Lots of extra work but that finish seemed worth it. Thanks for all you do for charity and to educate me. This was a great video.
I am leaning towards 2 but I do like 3 also. I love the shinier look of 2 but I love the natural of 3. So I guess it would be which one would go best with other furniture.
I prefer #1. The later ones just look dry and dull to me. I like to see the grain and color of the wood and it's easier for me to see it in the factory finish. Thanks for showing them like that so it's easy to compare them.
I think it depends on the condition of the piece. Number 4 is easy but won't hide much. The gel stain and number 1 seem to hide a lot of damage. As long as the finished piece looks relatively flaw-free, it won't really matter which finish you use. You might check out Transcend Furniture Gallery (RUclipsr). She uses dental picks, markers, paint, etc. to either pick out paint or disguise it.
When doing repairs like cigarette and veneer burns you want to spray vinyl sealer before you inpaint. No need to keep spraying water to see what the wood looks like. It will already look "wet or finished". Then you want to use glaze or better yet grain filler to make the grain rich and pop. Then it's time for toner. Mixing your own toner in the HVLP creates a transparent toner. You want opaque toner. Mohawk Tone Finish Toner cans are the ones you want. You can create your own toner for Acclaim but you need more than one color dye stain in the mix.
Excellent feedback. I was glad to have a piece like this to continue practicing with. There aren't many lane acclaim pieces out there that should be practiced on. Only one way to keep learning
1 looks best to me. But I'm glad to see the options involving less effort & exposure. I think consideration of how the table will be used is paramount. Thanks for this! What a great reference for future projects!
I love the number 4 finish. I am so so close to being able to have time and room to start working on furniture again and my friend you are a huge inspiration for me to so badly get back into something my father and I used to do for fun. I bought a chair at an auction down here in the south I will have to tell you about sometime the history of it is rather interesting
I like them all, it really would depend on which style of Lane furniture it was eg chest of drawers vs coffee table, where in my home it was going to be as to the finish. It's all in the eye of the beholder/owner in my opinion.
Another vote for the #1 option! The candlelight was a close second, the other photo you showed of it finished was very sharp. It just looks more polished with the contrast toned down a bit and the highlighted tones in the grain. With the candlelight - you’re probably familiar with Dashner’s channel, I’ve seen him mix candlelight with other finishes to get a little more of a walnut color, might be worth experimenting on other pieces. Great work overall, thanks for sharing!
I like numbers 1 and 2. I suppose it would depend on the rest of the room. Did it hurt you a bit to do that? 😊 I do appreciate you sharing it. Very informative.
My first thought was that I like #1, but I then after the closer look I have to say #4. They all look good though. Interesting video, makes me want to work on some furniture again. Used to before, but time is limited. Now it's not time that's limited, but me. I did paint my out door furniture this summer though, made me happy!
Jak dla mnie to nr 4 jest najlepszy!! Oczywiście nr 1 też jest niczego sobie - ale najlepszy jest ten powojnik :) pozdrawiam serdecznie -pieknie Ci to wychodzi Barry
I didn't expect to like the spray on finish the best but I do. Number one for me. I love the glossy finish on it creating a high contrast between the woods.
HEY THERE! Hope everything is fine up there...I was just thinking about what you were thinking about trying to match the cigarette burn on the table. It popped into my head to try pigments from a good set of neutral mineral-based EYESHADOWS! Why not? Not the cheapie ones, but ones from mineral based companies like Laura Geller or Bare Minerals brand, they will have higher qualities to them, may be more light fast. Get the brown based "nude" palettes for mix n match color tones. I think this might prove successful. Try it! ❤
I love the look of number one. But, I am a total sucker for the candlelight and I'm actually trying not to pick that. But I do love it. I so want to get my hands on a tin. Friend went over to U.S. recently to visit her family (she moved to Ireland with her Irish hubby) and I asked her if she could bring me back a tin.
I hadn't known about Lane Acclaim style furniture until I started watching this channel and now.... I WANT ONE! But a quick look on-line shows they're not very common here, and I could buy a small side table for... $1,350.00 NZD!!! Holy cow!! As for my vote, hard to really judge - as a fully finished finish, No. 1. The rest look like they will have other layers of finish added, so not finished finished with the finish. I'm going now...

I think all of the finishes look good in their own way, but my personal favourite is 1
Thank you
First Preference is #1 with #3 as runner up. Thanks for this tutorial. 👍
I'm with you. 1 and 3 are the 2 that I like most, but I didn't necessarily have a favorite between the two. I think it may depend on the type of furniture for me.
Thank you Marti
I prefer the Rubio Monocoat. I love the fact that it brings out the natural look of the wood.
I am joining Team number one. It is the best of the group. It does require an investment in equipment. For finished without the equipment, I go with the oil.
Great feedback!
I liked number 3 best! And surprisingly number 5? IDK, it looks quite pretty on the screen.
Big fan of your work Barry! Thank you for sharing with us!
You'll see more of that finish soon
I like finish #1, with #4 a close second.
Great options
I love the Rubio Monocoat finish, it's the best looking one.
I agree
1 or 2. I just love candlelight on pretty much everything.
I do too
3 or 4. Having a test piece like this is a great idea!
Thank you Jenn
I like 1 the best but all are pretty cool. If a second choice 2 would be the runner up
I have the cedar chest! Given to me as 18th birthday present in 1982, refinished and restored by my mom. Looks just like the one you showed.
That has to be one of my favorite pieces!
@@madcityrestorations8293 mine too!!

Thank you my friend
I think number three is my choice. And I will subscribe to this channel also 🎨🖌️🤩
Thank you for the support! Barry
I’m going with number 1. I’m partial to warm wood tones. Cheers!
Thank you Regina

@@madcityrestorations8293 Trust me so am I ♥️😘
I’ll be keeping an eye out for a lane acclaimed piece now!
Yes
I like the first finish closest to factory.
Well said
To my taste, finish number three is the best.
Thank you
Hello 👋
I like 3 it seems to show the best depth to the grain.
Yes!
I like the factory finish
Same

Hello Rebecca 😊 happy new year 🎆
Hi Barry, I like number one. Your so patient. It’s definitely a virtue. See you soon. Joyce ❤️🇺🇸🙏
Thank you Joyce
They all look fantastic but the first finish is best. Superb workmanship! 👍
1. It’s the standard for a reason. Very good protection. Uniform look. Grain pops. Best of all worlds.

Number 1 would be my first choice, then Number 3.
Great choices

I really like #1 and #3

When all is said and done, you can just refinish this one again someday! I vote #1.
You're exactly right
I like the gloss of #1 the best

Number 1 for me!
Close one for me too
I love the finish on number one!

We prefer number one. We also love your flowers and gardens!
Thank you so much!
I like #1 with the more glossy look and it shows the definition between the wood colors. #2 would be a second choice with a more subtle look. All very interesting.

Thank you Patricia
Hello Barry, Love your content and how you explain your work. You do such a fine job on both. I feel like #1 is the winner for me. That one shows the grain off very well, along with the contrast.
#3 gets my vote, but I was shocked at how much I ended up liking #1 also.
Great feedback
I liked 1and 3 the best but think all look good.
Thank you
Four is my favorite.
I like #1 and the candlelight, which I think was #2. The high contrast is great.

4 or 5
I like the contrast between light and darker wood. 😁
I was surprised how much I liked it
I'm leaning towards team 3, although the others look great too. This should be an interesting series.
Thank you!
I like number 1 .
# 1 for me
Thank you Dan

I prefer the 1st one by far. My 2nd choice would be number 4. The little :-( on the painter's tape cracked me up!
