Because no such thing exists ? Cos she is trying to "sell it".. It is Northern Chinese cuisine and noodles. With some pickled vegetables. Northern Chinese citizens tend to eat noodles. Southern, tend to eat rice. And Northern "Chinese" were really Mongolian, and Tibetan I think. Mongolian was an actual real dynasty. Southern Chinese were really more farmers, and rural land villagers... Two groups of people created "China"... I think the dynastic model, came from the West China.... ( I would say, maybe Greek or something..)
@min min : If you look up Xia... the location of the "North" is nowhere near modern day "mongolian" boundary. Please check your facts. Just using the word "North", can allow you to erode an entire nation or an entire civilisation ? How rich and appropiate !!! This is what starts wars in the first place !!! And some people stand back... and help when there is a favour back to them. US is also indirectly helping the CCPs... to get rid of their enemies.. It is rich to see how different people perceive things... Cos right now, most chinese media will show that, the CCP is acting like a "defender" of the country, when in reality, the previous wars were also instigated from inside the country !
@min min : Many of these people are not Northern Chinese, do you realise this ? They were intermingle with Mongolia... and the likes of Gengkis Khan... actually allowed a lot of the North to be captured. This is why, even in the West, there are also muslims as well. Muslim is not part of the Chinese heritage, is it ??? This is why North.. near North Korea, broke off... and formed Korea, and then the civil war split South and North together. Same with Japan... This is why Japan.. I forgot which region, split off, and then they just decided to protect their own family tree or dynasty.. and it went on from there. The fact, that, you can no longer call a lot of people "Northern Chinese", cos they are already mixed race... is what is causing a lot of heartaches, across the entire country. Do you , and would you mix, with the descendents of those who killed off your family tree, before, in previous generation ? Who would do that ???? Nobody. No foreign countries would do that either. I will recheck my history of the North... but no way, is the current situation bearable, OR acceptable !! This is NOT acceptable ! If the current set of governments in power, is going to jepodize the country again... This time... Southern chinese will also not be so forgiving, and the country is definitely going to draw a line, and be split finally. Cos it seems to me that, the North cannot control their interactions with Russia, and cannot even deal with Tibet either... and boundary creep... again and again... and inter-mix the people, for the sake of capitalism. Enough is enough. The enemies are already within the country.. and it is a matter of time, that the last remnants.. of any "chinese" is dead in this country.
Beside the best foods they have ,what a beautiful wiseness comes up from this young gentleman when it come to explain the origins and the genealogical tree from where they originated.....Thank you very much for sharing this video who targeted many things at the time ...food ...people ....and history....it just BEAUTIFUL
It’s complicated. It appears to be a mix of Muslim, Russian, and Northern Chinese. There are so many different Chinese cuisines and ethnic groups. Hard to lump them together. For an example, I’m of Taishanese (southern China) descent and we mostly eat rice dishes, with less spices. And our noodles are mostly rice based. Northern China seems to have more wheat noodle dishes.
Rick R not just find it. It’s nearly one on every street in mainland China the beef noodle soup is the most popular hang over food after you eat a bowl of that your headache goes down. I would probably say it’s as popular as beef pho in America

As a product of 1st generation immigrants, my parents too ran a small business deli and it takes me back when I would be a cashier during breaks when I was in middle school and high school. This hits home. I hope nothing but blessings for the Lagman House family!
When I was in shenzhen for a couple of months, there was this muslim restaurant and it was one of my favourite places to eat even tho it was quite cheap. They made what were like the perfect noodles to me.
fun fact in Scandinavia "Lagman" is a job title for the chairman of the various departments of the courts of appeal and of the courts of appeal, its a very old name was first used in the viking age. In the viking age Lagman duty was also to safeguard the rights and liberties of the people and to speak in their behalf to the king or his representative.
Thank you for this video. I was never aware of the Dungan people. I pray that they will survive this pandemic. Only in America can you start a business and work very hard and become successful because your children are there to help you.
Amazing immigrant family with amazing values. I have nothing but respect for them. The way the mom, a pharmacist by trade from KZ, make the fresh noodles is very unique. I wonder if they can create a window by the front of the restaurant to show how they make the fresh noodles, similar to Din Tai Fung restaurant where they make fresh dumplings, showcased in a glass window area at the front of the restaurant as part of their marketing. This could be cost-prohibited for this family business, but at the same time it may attract a lot of new customers curious about the food. We will definitely try their food with our next trip to New York.

What a great story! America is filled with wonderful immigrant families and amazing stories.
Beside the best foods they have ,what a beautiful wiseness comes up from this young gentleman when it come to explain the origins and the genealogical tree from where they originated.....Thank you very much for sharing this video who targeted many things at the time ...food ...people ....and history....it just BEAUTIFUL
Bums me out that they closed. Looks like for good. Wanted to go out of my way to try this place when I could travel back to the northeast.
Oh wow! So much better for a family’s mental health and the ongoing generations. Work, love and community.
"So, Chinese cuisine then?"
Them: "Well, yesn't"
More o less
well, you can find this kind of cuisine in china, but the cooks can't speak russian
@@Ladeliciadelinda Lagman has nothing to do with Russian cuisine. It's a typical Central Asian dish all Central Asians love and know, but Russians in Russia don't know it and don't know how to cook it
It’s great that delicious Dungan food is available in NYC, hope it’ll skyrocket and get the hype it deserves all across the US. I myself eat lagman minimum once a week because it is something that you always want ;)) greetings from Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
What a great video portraying this restaurant, the family and their hard work and heritage. I hope to try their food one day. I’m sure all of their dishes are created with love, and this is the best ever!
I hope they are successful for a very long time. The work ethic of this family really resonated with me.
Damn this is so cool! I've heard a bit about their culture but I never got an inside view. So neat!
My head is spinning: they're of mainly Han Chinese ancestry but with distant Arab/Persian blood and they speak Russian .
Молодцы!!!...Люблю,как готовят дунгане...Незабываемые вкусы и ароматы...И люди трудолюбивые...
Wow this was great to see, I never heard of this culture before. Their unity as a family is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this story with us. Definitely going to check them out real soon. What a lovely family, living the American dream!
Lovely, lovely family. I believe their Muslims too? So loving and hardworking xx I wish them all the success in life
As a product of 1st generation immigrants, my parents too ran a small business deli and it takes me back when I would be a cashier during breaks when I was in middle school and high school. This hits home. I hope nothing but blessings for the Lagman House family!
Привет из Алматы! Респект, процветания вашему семейному делу!

As someone who lives in Kyrgyzstan it's nice to see people of the same culture achieving something in the U.S.
Wish them all success
When I was in shenzhen for a couple of months, there was this muslim restaurant and it was one of my favourite places to eat even tho it was quite cheap. They made what were like the perfect noodles to me.
fun fact in Scandinavia "Lagman" is a job title for the chairman of the various departments of the courts of appeal and of the courts of appeal, its a very old name was first used in the viking age. In the viking age Lagman duty was also to safeguard the rights and liberties of the people and to speak in their behalf to the king or his representative.
Wow, never knew that!
Best of luck to you guys! Next time I am in NYC, I will definitely check this place out
Mikey Chen totally needs to visit this place sometime when he’s over in New York!
If he been to mainland China he would have already tasted it. It’s on every street in China
hamster1 I tried this place and it may resemble food from certain parts of China, but the taste is definitely unique. Mikey would like this place.
Their food looks amazing! Hope they’re doing well at times like this
They just entered my go-to list once I am back to NYC.
Amazing story, what a wonderful mix of cultures and foods!!
this cuisine is everything! What a beautiful family!
Pray your family becomes strong in love and your business does successfully....from california
Thank you for sharing this piece, as I learned so much from the first 7 minutes. Appreciations to you...
Very interesting! I will visit your restaurant soon to try your food. Never heard of the Dungan culture. And what a lovely family you have.
Such a nice and inspiring story. Hope this family and their business have weathered the Covid storm in NYC.
Was sweet hearing the little girl say its great working there because she gets to spend more time with her mum
❤️❤️❤️ I’m going to visit this spot ASAP!!! Thanks for sharing this video Munchies.
Also loved the shout-out to JMart in Flushing.
This represents the best of NYC ❤️
Much respect and love to them.
I also grew up in restaurant immigrant family, we too had to do everything together.
In many of the Central Asian states Dungan restaurants are some of the most popular places to eat. Unfortunately there were some ethnic clashes with Kazakhs some months back. Love Dungan culture and food! Peace to Central Asia!
@Daisy Wong are you a nationalist? Seems like all your comments tend to be super pro China ... nothing wrong with that...
That's look just like Gansu and Shaanxi provinces' food, since Dungan people is from those two provinces. Even the steam bun at 01:47 looks like 花卷.
This looks incredibly similar to food served by the hui minority in North East China, Gansu province. The food looks delicious. I hope I can stop by sometime. Thank you for sharing
North-West you mean cuz North-East would be Lianoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang
@@amurleopard5466 yes, I meant north west, my mistake 😄
@@fictionalfinesse no problem. Mistakes can happen 😅✌
They are hui
Hui and Han are related right?
I think I am a fairly educated and well read person. Yeah I have never heard of the Dungan people. Kudos to munchies for bring such a cool video out.
Обожаю дунганскую кухню! я на ней +10 кг набрала, когда впервые начала есть ее в Китае. Хоть уже вернула свой вес, но не откажусь от настоящего дунганского лагмана даже ночью.
Family is everything! Can't wait to try out their cuisine soon!
I’d never even heard of this. Thank you for sharing
this video is dope! At first they looked slightly asian yet they spoke something like russian... then i went down an hour long rabbit hole of looking up what "Dungan" is... GREAT video munchies! Im so uncultured!
this place is amazing. highly recommend!
How can Americans hate this about our culture, we are a nation of immigrants with tons of stories, and experiences to share. Is sad that we don’t appreciate our own beauty more, just look at all the amazing food and cultures we have here!
Молодцы! Желаю вам успехов :)
What a wonderful family and food. I wish them success in their business. Next time I’m in new York, you bet I will be going!!!
Congratulation on your future in America and your family business. Very inspiring.
Funny how this got uploaded on the same day my mom made Lagman herself.
Lucky! Bet her lagma noodle tastes great
Big Brother watching you
Absolutely beautiful family. The food looks amazing too!!!
Thank u for sharing your culture with me. I'm going to go right now and read more about it, and of course watch plenty of Dugan culinary videos because I like to be filled in on a culture, but there's nothing better than being full on a culture.
Удачи и процветания вам .так держать.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💪💪💪

I love to learn more cultures and foods from different places. This is very knowledgeable. 😊
Beautiful family with a great story! That little girl is so precious!
My family is from former Soviet Union as well and we have friends from central Asia, who cook food from there. It is amazing. Heard of the dish "Lagman" before and I absolutely wanna try it. If I am in NYC one day, I will come by. Greetings from Germany 🙌
Thank you for sharing this. Immigrants are a fabric of communities. It’s inspiring to see parents sacrifice everything so their children have a better life.
