I loved my ap1 s2000 so much. Engine is incredible obviously, chassis is incredibly stiff, and the double wishbone suspension front and back made it handle like a dream. I did track days with it while it was bone stock with just upgraded tires. We need companies to go back to making lightweight sports cars instead of having the horsepower version of a space race. Who cares if a model gains 150hp if it gains a whole 1000 lbs with it
That's almost fair. It's difficult for me to poke holes in that, the s2k is a legendary roadster, but it's fair to expect new roadster legends. Except to say that modern mandates make it very difficult to build a lightweight drivers car. The older small cars have a manufacturing freedom advantage. I'm honestly shocked the gr86 (and ND Miata) is even possible today. This is why everything is a numb automatic turbocharged drag gorilla now. 0-60, 1/4-mile times are a terrible way to measure real smiles/gallon performance, but they are easy to engineer and market. Says the guy that drives a CTSV (6sp) gorilla, but I can at least respect how the s2k remains impressive with so little grunt. Less is more. If I could pick up my kids in one, and if I wasn't addicted to my burble, I'd gladly trade my 400hp for the Honda's telepathic nimbleness (and mpg lol).
The gr86 is a sporty car, but a real sports car. The S is a pure bred sports car, and a roadster, and at the time it beat out Porsche and BMW at a significantly lower price point.

no its not. ur thinking like a chick. nothing practical about a car that hasn't depreciated yet, and also needs 5k of mods and repairs if you turn just a little bit too right. literally can buy 2 s2ks for the price of 1, and they will both be high 5 or low 6 figure cars some day. honestly bro if you buy the pos slow poorly engineered Toyota you deserve whatever bs comes with it. honestly, thinking about impulse buying a s2k just cause of this. i could buy one without financing. same isnt true of a pos 86.
put em on a track and the s2k is gunna dominate also. gr86 cant turn right. dont be a clown. also the only other metric i can think of is value over time and the s2k is clearly in a totally different league. all the gr86 is going to do is depreciate forever and ever and ever.
I agree, but it’s overpriced because it can be tbh. The only other similar new option on the market rn in my mind is the Miata, and that’s much smaller and not a coupe. There’s a big gap in the market for fun, sporty dailies at this price range.
@@gundamlover72 the s2k had the highest power output per liter of any car from 1999 to 2010. It’s also a roadster. 23 years newer and still can’t beat it
😂😂😂 ok.......
S2000 still rock's..
For a 23 years old car . its fking big win
The amount of smiles per mile in S2000 will never be matched by GR86, either.
@miahmcbride5415 idk my brz handles way better than my s2k did
Just proves a point old cars are just better
I think people forget the s2000 was a pretty expensive car.
Including inflation the 86 and the s2000 aren't even close to the same price bracket
adjusted for inflation, the S2K costs nearly double what the BRZ/GR86 costs, so it should definitely beat it
It's not that old cars are better. Newer cars don't have room for improvement because of the regulations.
This proved nothing but how shallow and narrow your thinking is.
Literally proves nothing. Two entirely different platforms.
You know what's better than revving up to 9k? Revving up to 9k with the top down. Love my AP1!
I bet you does that once a year, where else in my brz is fun every few weeks. 😅

The s2000 is a LEGEND impossible to top off.
That’s actually wild that any new car labeled a sports car isn’t destroying a stock Honda

VTEC baby!!!, that S2000 is a masterpiece, I want one!
Honda needs to come out with a new version....keep the high revving engine, manual transmission, and upgrade the HP. Add a removable hard top too.
I miss my Yellow AP1. Phenomenal car
Most intense 0-20 I've ever seen
When that V-tec kicks in yo!!

I’m very happy with this outcome
What an epic race!

I make plenty of those

Was this the 250hp 2.0 or the 236hp 2.2 s2000?
does it matter? i forget if there is a practical difference or not.
2.2 this s2000 in this video is a ap2 which means it has a f22c1
The s2000 driver was most likely short shifting, too.
It revs higher than you'd think.
If you watched the video he said he shifted at redline, 2/3 races the gr86 won
2 of the slowest "sports cars" but a couple of the best for pure fun
i almost had to sell my ap1! NOT TODAY! 😅😂
Toyota fan boys crying 😂😭
Subaru drivetrain
Naw any true car enthusiast has appreciation for the S2000. They’re such cool cars. I’m a owner of a GR86 and seeing this was pretty sweet
Except an S2000 in 2000, in todays dollars is about 50k. An 86 premium msrps for 31ish? For 20k cheaper it's equally fast. Not bad.
it has a 2.4 goofball
S2k top!
I called the S2000 from the start.. im sure of it
They don't make them like they used to
I miss my s2k😢
I always wanted a S2000, I just couldn't convince myself to buy a car with no roof. The Toyota is a practical alternative.

GR86 cannot beat a car with 1999 technology……embarrassing !

Toyota should go back to the drawing books 😅
will take S2000 anyway

Very good old nice S2000.
One of the best Honda
In the end the toyota need a new engine.
How much is that 86 again?😂😂😂😂😂
An s2k at msrp with adjustments for inflation would be almost 60k
S2k is cheap where i live
