    For me, I noticed every since I got my microlocs, I've gotten so many compliments from women about my locs. So I've been a one woman loc gang recruiter for the last year since I've gotten my locs. 😂😂 I truly want more black women to experience the hair freedom of locs & have the courage to embrace their natural hair. 🙌🏽

      @@cilyahowell0529 the hair freedom that comes with locs is very underrated. I think too many women get caught up on the long term commitment aspect of having locs, so they shy away from getting them, or they really aren't ready or willing to embrace their natural hair. Having locs really does take away the stress & anxiety that so many black women have when it comes to their hair. In my opinion having locs outweighs any "negatives" that women think of to not get them.

    When I got my locs I was sad because my loctician didn't give me a grid and they were all different sizes. I originally wanted about 250. She said yes. Then she have me 175😭😭😭 I was devastated and cried for two weeks.
    I then suddenly found(of course) like a certified loctician and I went to her and she was saying that i could undo them. NAH. I told her i would suffer and find out what they look like. I'm glad I did. They may not be on a perfect grid, but they are mine. I'm glad I went through the storm and made it out on the other side.
    I barely noticed the "ugly phase/plucked chicken phase". I have medium density hair and I was pretty scalpy in the beginning but I truly can't remember that! It all happened so fast and now I love my hair so so so much. Locs are where it's at!
    So many black women need to understand that locs may be the ticket to what you are trying to achieve with sew ins, braids, long nautiral hair, etc. You can have it all with locs!

      I love this! Im editing a video right now talking about the superstitions and things that were holding me back from getting them at first and how I moved past it. Im glad you stuck your journey out after the unfortunate start and I do agree that locs are where its at!

    • @barbarapeller
      @barbarapeller 10 месяцев назад +1

      I started my own locs without a perfect grid. I have very fine thin hair and not doing a grid pattern allowed my hair to look fuller. I am seven months in and I love the in-between retwists, my hair is not scalpy and looks full but frizz lol! I can deal with the frizz but I am still freaked out about the shrinkage!!! I started with waist-length hair (I wish I had cut it first) and it is just past my ear now, what shrinkage!!!! It has just started to get length again and I didn't fret because I knew it would. Good luck on your journey, I wished I had done this years ago, the freedom! And I get what a lot of you women are saying, it truly does build your confidence.

    • @cilyahowell0529
      @cilyahowell0529  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@barbarapeller Ive tried to do locs the same way by myself and experienced alot of shrinkage. But I also did with my professionally installed locs. I found that shrinkage is what makes the loc strands look fuller. Once that shrinkage phase hurdle is done, you’ll start retaining length in no time. Good luck on your journey queen 💕

      I'm 9 months in on locs that were started with organic parting. I don't regret it at all. I feel like having a grid or square box pattern can sometimes look unnatural or scalpy. I wish I could see more people with organic parting!
      Happy loc journey! ❤

    • @barbarapeller
      @barbarapeller 9 месяцев назад

      @@Penelope416 Yes, I did the same. I did not use a comb or part my locs, I just used my fingers to section off the amount or size I wanted my locs to be. I am happy that I did, although my hair is very fine when the new growth comes in, my hair looks thick, and fuller and I agree, no parting makes the locs look more natural.

    I don't have locs, just hair that is braided with my own hair. However, it is crazy what people assume based off of how I style my hair or how I dress. A lot of them automatically assume I am vegan or try to force me to go vegan. I will never be one, I am never giving up my fish LOL. It also is the fact that I manage a health store too but even outside of work, they think I am one. If my hair is in a braid out, all of a sudden I am foreign. Even if I am speaking in full blown English, some people will just look at my hair and accuse me of being Ethiopian, Indian or Somalian. Every. Single. Day. After a man grabbed my hair a few months back (he wasn't the first stranger to grab my hair) I started wearing a head scarf. Now suddenly, people think I am a Muslim or an Israelite but I am not either of those belief systems. The worst is when I flat iron my hair. I only do that once a year. Wearing my hair straight truly exposes how colorist some people can be. One year, I had my hair flat ironed and someone asked if I was a doctor. Another asked if I was a lawyer. How does one get any of those occupations from simply hair alone? Anyway, good video. You have really pretty locs and cute little dimples too

    • @cilyahowell0529
      @cilyahowell0529  10 месяцев назад +4

      The straight hair being associated with being a doctor is WILD. Lol but yea how we choose to wear our hair bringing up all these assumptions of who we are is very stereotypical. It’s unfortunate what happened with the hair scarf ordeal people can be rude at times. But thanks love. Im glad you enjoyed the video.

    I am a straight lazy natural of 3.5 years. Locs of any kind at this point in my life have not considered. One girl I know got them about a year ago & they are neat, clean & growing out. She doesn't like her grey so she keeps it colored a reddish color. It fits her well & made me interested in the process. It is nice to see our Black women taking care of & embracing their natural hair. Our hair is uniquely beautiful natural whether straight or loc. I had traditional, sister and I’m currently starting my microloc journey. One thing that I absolutely loved about my loc journey is that it almost gave me incentive to take care of myself more. I know it sounds weird but tbh I think it was because I wanted my hair to grow long and healthy and my sister locks consultant DWELLED on the fact that your hair in most cases is a reflection of you on the inside. Take care of yourself and your hair will grow type deal. Idk if I was brainwashed or if it was a real thing but ended up getting in the gym, I lost weight, I was pressed to sweat lol in my mind the sweat was helping my hair grow I guess, I started taking vitamins like.. I was doing the thing and my hair really was flourishing. My loc journeys were and have been more than just a hairstyle to me. It was like I morphed lol my body looks different my skin looks different and lowkey my whole mindset was different. It’s not the gospel or anything but it was pivotal for sure.

    Love your locs. I am seven months into my loc journey and loving it. Although I have a bald spot (chemical burn from years of relaxing my hair) on the top of my head, for the first time, I don't care about it with my locs. Sometimes I cover it up but in between retwist, it is fuller so you can barely see the spot. I cannot wait until my hair grows out, but I am enjoying the stage I am in right now, and my confidence is out of this world!

Loving them, what my loctition did to minimize the scalpy look ( and it wasn’t overly scalpy) was rolled my hair on big bone rollers. My hair was almost 10 inches.
