  • There are a lot of people who believe the pick-and-choose, or true outlaw, schedule is the best way for a professional team to tackle the season. The numbers say otherwise. We discuss why series racing makes more sense for more teams financially and give one exception on today's SprintCarUnlimited 90 at 9.

    So what does this do if Anthony Macri leaves for the HL series or Outlaws series to the local PA Posse shows? Losing Marks and Macri to traveling series means we have no top level teams for these local shows. That is like losing Al Hamilton and the Weikert teams of decades past which would have made the PA Posse shows less exciting to watch. Not having your top level teams racing not much locally gives us fans less exciting races with no top level teams to cheer for or cheer against. I think the racing is less fun when Marks and Macri aren't at these PA Posse shows and when DD isn't around it is totally a meh race for PA Posse shows. If Macri goes full time traveling along with Marks continuing this traveling and with DD not around from time to time it seems like crowd size is way down at Lincoln, Port Royal, Williams Grove etc.

    No amount of purse money is going to “cut it” as you say for most of these teams! I am totally amazed that some people still seem to believe that these teams are making money by racing. They are racing off of sponsors and donations. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that purse and point money pads that. But the vast amount of drivers running a true outlaw schedule know that they don’t have the resources to run a full national touring schedule. So the run locally most of the time and travel when they can. I have more respect for them than any big money high funded touring team.

    Pick and choose may seem like a gamble. But the outlaws schedule. Has a tremendous amount of windshield time. And that many races. The wear and tear / tires. Has to be ridiculous. Personally I like watching the true pick and choose outlaw style guys. They race 100 percent all the time. Seems like some other teams following WOO or High Limit. Still have to pick and choose. Yeah they are at every race. But how often are they in survival mode? Just trying to get through the event in 1 piece.

    The other costs that would seem to make a difference are the travel costs of fuel, hauler wear and tear, hotels, food, etc with a full time traveling team. The Macri example they wouldn't seem to have as much in the expenses being able to be at home more often so their net would be better than teams that grossed the same money but had higher travel and living expenses.

      The key for Macri is that he wins races. Two years ago, he won 23 times. This year, it's 15. Plus, a fifth-place finish in the Knoxville Nationals. It makes it pay off. He doesn't need the bonus money, tow money, etc. But if he wouldn't win, the numbers wouldn't add up.

      I get that Larson is part owner, and I do consider him a High Limit racer, but he's definitely not following the series or getting the benefits mentioned.

    • @joshmorningstar9650
      @joshmorningstar9650 12 дней назад

      Yeah he is not following the series. But the main reason is that. He has a full time nascar schedule. That limits his ability to follow a series. One would have to assume. He would be full time high limit. To help fill the stands in his series.

      @@joshmorningstar9650,
      I don't disagree with what I think would happen if not for the NASCAR commitments, but the facts are that he doesn't run full time in any series or receive any of the benefits of doing so. More importantly, Paul Silva, who has zero NASCAR ties, doesn't follow any series.

    • @SprintCarUnlimited
      @SprintCarUnlimited  11 дней назад +1

      That is true, but I don't really count him because of his situation with NASCAR and part-time status. I was keeping it at full-time drivers.

    Brent Marks example proves you wrong in my opinion with his results in 2022 and 2023 vs his high limit season this year, especially in money earned. Plus Brent Marks was closer to home as was his pit crew when he did travel. The west coast travel was probably ridiculous for Brent Marks and that team. Plus another thing is the pick and choose is less stressful since you aren't racing for points so much less pressure and therefore probably less mistakes on the track as well. A pick and choose would have worked out much better as well with being home more when your wife is pregnant. Being out on the west coast while your wife is close to having her child probably was extremely stressful. It seems like running a tour is better for young and single drivers and pit crew members than for drivers and pit crew members that want a family lifestyle.

      @@midnight-2021,
      What's the Charter that Marks is after going to pay him? That's likely the reason he's following HL.

    • @SprintCarUnlimited
      @SprintCarUnlimited  11 дней назад

      Not really. When he was running the pick-and-choose schedule, the key is that he won races. That made it pay off. Sure, he hasn't been good this year, but he is going to make $100,000 in tow money plus point fund money. That boosts his season earnings. Plus, he is in line for a charter, and that could be lucrative ... we don't know yet. Imagine if he was running pick and choose this year. He is probably under $200,000 and doesn't get any year-end stipend. Talking to drivers who have done both and are now with a series, it's pretty stressful having to win to make the pick-and-choose schedule work.
