Test drove one today and it was fun. The fact that you can get a check engine light in the first 5000 miles is completely unacceptable. I don't care what they say about a "software glitch." It is wild looking at you drive this beautiful new car with the check engine light shining in the center of the screen.
Hi, weirdly I own both a grenadier and a bmw motor bike and as you know there’s a lot of bmw in the grenadier . Both came up with error codes at similar times . Took them both into respective dealers and they carried out full software updates , both now perfect . REMEMBER TAKE BOTH KEYS TO ALLOW DEALERS TO FO FULL FACTORY RESET. You’ll also find they are pro active in improving every fine detail and you’ll no doubt have a few more service bulletins that they’ll upgrade in the background . All Grenadier owners should check fuel recording set up ,bizarrely I had a 1st edition Merc ML 270 in 2001/2 and it’s set up in US gallons not UK gallons.
Your are fortunate to have a dealership in your area. In my case, 5 hours a way was a deal killer for me. You may know this but in case you don't, you can clear the check engine light with a cheap code reader and it won't come back (for a while). The voodoo around keeping it from coming back seems to be removing the key from the ignition when refueling and not topping off. It only happened to me once in 2500 miles. I just got that dreaded "check engine" light. Currenly have 4400 miles; light turned 5 minutes after getting gas. Read in the forums that you shouldn't top off, which I did. I'm not assuming that is my issue, setup an appointment but the dealer requires me to get a loaner, which is available in 2 weeks.

I have been driving a Prius since 2008. Having a push button made sense for this application. Any car now that does the push button is just following the trend. I prefer a key ignition car. I do not like my 4Runner with a push button. It does not feel natural for this vehicle.
I hate that you're making me start to really like that truck. It looks amazing and super capable. I'm sure it won't last like a Land Cruiser but it looks like a lot of fun.
Seriously, it will laaaaast. The ladder chassis is galvanised and potentially will resist rust for 40 years or more. Most of the panelling is aluminium (again, so that it will stand the test of time). All the components have longevity in mind, even the rubbers are designed to outlast others.

Toyota is scamming the US a little by simply branding that “Land Cruiser” and creating the impression that the legend is returning to your market. THE current Land Cruiser is the LC300. 20 years or so ago, Toyota nailed a strategy to develop a smaller, cheaper, more everyday model from the previous generation Land Cruiser platform and called it a Prado. The Prado strategy has been brilliant and it has been a damn good vehicle and sold really well into a true crossover market with excellent road manners, genuine off-road ability. However, if you want the larger size and capability, the LC300 costs about 50% more (for the off-road version but more again if you want even more luxury levels) the Grenadier is more in line with LC300 or, if you’re really hard core, a 70 series Land Cruiser that was the pinnacle in the 80’s but still sells well. It costs about the same as the higher spec Prados but you’ll spend a lot more on it to be truly comparable to Grenadier or LC300. In a market that sells all three Toyotas , nobody calls Prados Land Cruisers. If you did you’d be shouted down with responses like “Mall Crawler”, “Shopping Trolley”, “School Bus” by people who will even concede that they are very good off road. The Prado should sell really well in the US because it is really good but it’s not an LC300 and 50% more dollars for a Grenadier is about right.
Not sure where you’re getting that figure. Comparing equivalent trims and options, the Grenadier is maybe 14% more. Plus solid axles, and built on a drivetrain platform that is well proven. The new Toyotas are already facing some real issues.
No way - a First Edition is the comparable trim - my Toyota dealer said with their markup and mods to get more clearance, wheels and plates would put me over $100k on the LC - the Grenadier is comparable, if not less
