He was brilliant and fearless. He worked a tough system but never backed away from his Blackness in an industry that was not that welcome at the time... I worked on the European runways from 1979-1983, and I'll never forget John Fairchild, the head of WWDaily complained about all the Black models, saying to the press , 'The runways are looking like Harlem!." Andre was inside THAT situation, and just brought all his knowledge and power and style. You could not deny him. Rest in Peace, my Brother.
There really needs to be more acknowledgement on the important black pioneers in fashion: Andre Leon Talley, Robin Givhan, Stephen Burrows, Eunice Johnson. These great people broke barriers beyond belief. R.I.H. Mr. Talley ❤️
He had more knowledge of Fashion History than Anna ever had. He was a people person and knew how to navigate all the colorful personalities of fashion. He was a articulate, learned force to reckon with.
A visionary in the fashion world. I looked up to him for his artistic/ gifted craft in fashion. R.I.P. Mr. Talley. Thank you for your many, many years of contributions.
It is disgraceful that Wintour and her crew chose to ignore his passing until there was a public outcry. But then it's understood who she truly is. No question.
@@leonietaylor7054 That’s not true either. When she got to vogue in 1988, she fired half of the editing staff, and brought in her hand picked team. Grace Coddington and Andre Leon Talley were her top two. Out of everyone at Vogue, it was Andre who flew around the world and was consistently on front row with her. That was her doing. She even invited him into her personal life (which she never does with anyone). I get it . In “woke” times, it’s easy to assume that Anna Wintour is a “Karen”, but she’s far from it.
@@TASconfidential did she pay him what he’s worth though? Just wondering. What does being invited into a person life of a wealthy elite group do for a minority? Who cares?
I saw his last film and purchased the poster and have had it beautifully framed and hung in my kitchen...His loss is the equivalent to the loss of a library! He studied French at the Master and Doctoral level and knew more than Anna or any other so called fashion aficionado could ever hope to have.
Thank you Martin for honoring Andre' Tally, words cannot totally described a giant in the fashion lexicon👏 Andre was iconic that he knew the history of fashion backwards & forward, RIP MR ANDRE TALLY
I’m so happy he was able to write his book. I read it when it came out a few years ago and I was very pleased with how he was able to see so much. He should have been in the spot of Anna Wintour. He was highly educated and spoke French fluently. Just an amazing man and understood Fashion and Beauty from a view no one else will ever have.
@@misterj3133 not sure if that part is true he was working in the fashion industry since the 60’s and he moved from a state still segregated until 69. It wasn’t easy to move up still isn’t if you really look at it.

I got into fashion design because of him. Now my wife and daughters are happy that I love making them look good. Thank you Andre for being a inspiration to me by how you thought.

The fashion industry was racist back in the 70s as they are today. So many black, very talented designers, designs were stolen by those who had the upper hand. A designer in NY always did local shows. A few designs from his shows, ended up on the cover of vogue mag. Zero credit to him as the creator. Screw the fashion industry.
One of the things that stands out to me regarding various African American icons is that they didn't accumulate the wealth most people would have estimated by a long shot.
Never really attempted to know him. However for some reason I would see him at aglance in book or a page of amagazine. I knew this flamboyant Black Man was very Important to us and fashion. I know he's gone now. I will take yome to read and know of him more. THANK YOU, RIP !!

This tribute sheds sooooooo much light (and love) on the impact of André Leon Talley's presence and legacy. It has helped me understand him much more clearly than I had in the past. Before viewing this, I couldn't figure out whether he was "the real thing" or just a "poser" who got by on the good graces of white folk. I even questioned his "extra-ness": was that REALLY his personality or was it a character front designed to overshadow his insecurities? My questions have been answered and it is with great sadness that this realization comes in the aftermath of his time on earth. Better late than never, I suppose.

He also help to paved the way for so many models of color, especially black models in the modeling industry. His LEGACY will continue to live on. He will be GREATLY missed and ALWAYS loved. 🙏🏿❤🕊
I just learned about this great creative beautiful king who love he had for his family and melinated people could never be brought or sold. This beautiful spirited man held on to his cultural heritage and beautiful memories of his grandmother's principles and perfection in all she did. I feel sad that he didn't know that many wealthy people that used his creative gift in fashion he contributed to their fame due to his soulful exotic emphasis. This man was innocent, respected and held on to principles while around sheeps in wolf appearal. At the end struggling to keep his home due to the wolves trying to destroy him st the end. I believe his truth about filthy wickedness in the sodomites world of fashion is what angered them. This king soul couldn't be brought and his wealth was his blackness.

There's no need to lie. They reconciled months prior to his death.
That isn’t accurate. And the depictions of Anna Wintour aren’t true.

He cared more about rubbing elbows with those reprobates than he did about securing his future.
