Agree completely; these are sit-and-spin torp boats. I was lucky and got all four (4) ships (Tier IV-VII) between awards and purchasing 10 crates. Also agree on using the new Japanese commander on these boats. Map generation and spawn makes a difference as well. Some maps have great channels for long-range torps. Other maps provide much shorter runs for torps and sort of limit these boats.

Got one 4k+ base xp game with Omono and two with Shimanto on my way to Takahashi. Awesome line with AL Atago.

I’m so glad I lucked out getting the Shimanto from a crate. It’s tricky to play, fur sure. But I am finding enjoyment in its playstyle. Everything underneath it? Boy or boy is it a struggle. The T6 is the worst offender. Terrible winrate and performance from those boats when I get it them. I’m not used to performing so poorly in cruisers. Now that I have the Takahashi camo, I’m not sure I’ll ever return to the T4-T6 versions unless I have to for a mission.

thats kinda odd . cause most say the tier 7 is where the line struggles . its a suzuya at tier 6 how bad could it be

I don’t have Takahashi yet, but have been enjoying the line. I like the new captain for this line, but agree that he sorely misses the extra range for the guns. I’ve been using Kutznetsov for the extra 6%, and Atago for the torpedo skills. His torpedo skills are just phenomenal. I’ve been having great games in these ships, but I think it’s for the same reasons you’re not sold on it. You have to play very carefully, and really think about what you’re doing. It forces me to stay alive longer, hold my fire sometimes ( difficult for me) and play smart. I’ve also been vaporized several times, but that can happen in most cruisers. Nice breakdown, good lessons!

I have this boat with Haguro and all I can say is...I prefer running Shimanto over the Takahashi. Atago is great but it's risky because of Arsonist perk's drawback. As far as Matsuji goes...you have to run a full stealth build but then range becomes an issue but I'm thinking of using him as a DD captain for an experimental build towards his unique perk that increases the torp damage the further they go.

I use the monthly calendar Commander with full torpedo build even the legendary skill is torpedo base inspirations and torpedo range and speed because with the legendary perk the further the torps go with the stronger they get I've been able to Dev strike full health tier 8 battleships with only two torpedoes at 16 plus kilometers

I love the new Japanese Ines. T7 and T8 are great when played with new Torp commander. T6 is definitely Mid. CMD AL Atago gives you 18% fire chance but I enjoy catching people with 16.5K with the new commander.

If u have a chance can u do a video on atago b or suzuya comparing them to the new line? Like pros and cons of each. To me the tier 6 amono is the highlight of the new line. Its has a lower reload then 15 seconds lol

How do you make the torpedoes move like that?

So far I am impressed with the t6 Omono and t7 Shimanto. The rest of the line, though, is very much a meh, but I don't have Takahashi so I can judge what I haven't played.

Takahashi isn't as good as Shimanto because it's a Tier Eight, so you will end up in a lot of Legendary Tier Matches. Shimanto is faster because I think it's smaller and lighter. The guns are very similar in terms of caliber. The Takahashi does have an extra torpedo in each set, but Shimato still puts out plenty of Torpedo's. I just want to complete the mission to get the free Camo for Takahashi and continue to mainly play Shimanto. I honestly recommend only getting Takahashi if you want the free Camo and to have the whole line.

I agree they are kinda mid. However, I like playing kites, and these ships have a sort of unique kiting flavor than a lot of other kites in the game. A slightly bland flavor, but a different flavor nonetheless. German kites depend on a slender profile when they go vertical. French kites depend on fast rudders and the ability to turn and dodge. Russian kites depend on range. American kites depend on anti dispersion to make people miss. This line lives and dies kiting on speed. Mostly due to the knife blade hull, which increases speed while making turn radius wider. Timed right at range, a slight 10-15 degree change of course, puts you somewhere completely different over the course of the 10-12 seconds it will take shells to get to you. Making a hard turn scrubs a lot of the speed, resulting in not a big change of original position and new course. French cruisers depend on those hard turns, in these ships the hard turns to dodge are a mistake. You literally want to turn just enough to go somewhere different, while maintaining enough speed to separate from the enemies original aiming point. Scrubbing to much speed results in not enough separation from original aiming point by the time the shells get there. While a bit boring compared to French kiting, it's extremely effective and annoying for reds. Great video Tommy. Thank you.

I agree. And mid isn’t a bad thing - it shows WG kinda nailed the balance of these things. They have a little room for buffs or nerfs, but in general, they aren’t going to shake up the meta.

After having suzuya amd atago b i like them more then the new line. The reload on the new line is just to long. I do like the fast turrets but thayd about it. Admittedly i only have the tier 7 of the new line but i will give the tier 8 a try. So far I prefer using atago commander on both lines for more fire chance. The range is an issue on both lines . Alot of them stock are around 14.7 km

I'm really liking the T7 in this line. But then again, I pride myself as the worst cruiser player in Legends, so there's that.
