Why Businesses don't Flourish in Pakistan? I

  • There is a well-established notion that #businesses do not flourish in #Pakistan due to a non-conducive #environment which includes bureaucratic friction, uncertain policies and #political instability, among other reasons. However, there may be another perspective to it. Do we really possess a #mindset for doing business? Or are we just #Seths? Why cannot companies run as conglomerates and be broken down into smaller individual companies when transferred on to the next generation?
Why does Pakistan have no multi-billion companies?
Why are there mostly family-run businesses in Pakistan?
Why is there almost no company headed by #professionals?
Why is there no Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) market?
    Why no new #products?
    Why no #R&D?
    Is our industry overprotected?
    Are government licenses/permissions restricting investment?

Our economy is where it is today because of our investment in basic education that is modern. In our government schools we teach science, not religion. The result was that when the country had to liberalize in 1992, we had abundant human capital that could be exploited.
So whatever policy changes you make, whatever strategies you adopt, whatever facilities you provide, unless you invest in producing a workforce that has a scientific temper, you will not make much progress.

All the panelists have rightly pointed out the ills of this Paleolithic economy. How to improve the situation to enable Porkistan to compete with Bangladesh seems to be the Million Dollar question on their minds. Here goes the magic wand ; a) You guys have to first come out of this burqaa/hijaab/skull cap mindset. We are seeing Economics/Management students in this traditional 10th Century BC uniform in a Business Meeting. b) Secondly, you need to immediately privatize the Army. They are the main culprits who are bleeding the economy by opening fast food outlets in the West. c) You need to develop on your Core Competency which is Jihaad. This business model has been copied by many other Islamic countries including Syria. You guys should have obtained a Copyright long back. d) You need to immediately appoint Mullahs and Moulvis as the CEO/CFO of your big businesses on a war footing. e) Your IT Panelist has rightly pointed out that it has taken 14 years to come back to Porkistan to serve your economy. We can understand the speed at which your economy is growing. Congrats. and lastly, f) Your young talented population should be educated in Business Schools of India than in Madrassas of North West Frontier Province. The sooner you adopt these strategies, the faster you will become the Jihaadi Republic of the World. Inshallah.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just saw an example of this happening in this gathering too . Despite a request from the audience , passed on by the moderator ,to carry on the discourse in Urdu ,the participants stuck to English ,which probably quite a few in the audience could not connect up with . So unless we are more inclusive in our approaches we should not expect to make it big . Just a thought .

Pakistan still continues to get its identity..this is what happens when you create a nation without its soul..

As a common man, a 25 year old chemical engineering graduate from India i can easily say that your army IS the reason for the inability of your country to develop, prosper or even be competitive in the world, the annual budget it takes every year is ever increasing and it directly impinges upon any funds available for either development projects (existing/new) nor for any meaningful reforms to be carried out as they simultaneously have control over 70% of the industries with them, so good luck getting out of this mess lol, unless this issue is fixed NOTHING will change in Pakistan !!!!

The main problem is the middle class has not been addressed. Unless this is addressed the purchasing power goes down leading to poor economic activity. The second problem is seeking parity with India and spending a huge amount on the army instead of doing business with India. Another bad descision is selling out the country to China. Too much emphasis on religion in the form of conversion, blashphemy and other outdated laws. Finally the most important - women empowerment by way of education and other benefits is dismal.

Seths have left labours at the mercy of Thekedars , they are not paying minimum wages to labours, treating their employees like their slaves, lack of transparency and tickle down economic fruits.. There is lack of merit in seth organization therefore well qualified youth prefer Multinational Compony here or to go abroad. Go ans survey various textile and other mills. Even in some elite so called O level schools where there is seth system and example is Karachi Public School where even after 37 years working as a teacher by a man has not been given appointment letter and where teachers have to pay for drinking water. When they call their employees on holidays and the excess time they dont pay but in disguise of late coming deduct huge amount. So there is need to end this SARMAYADARANA SETH SYSTEM>

IN Pakistan, When companies are doing business overseas, they do not want to be based in Pakistan. They'd rather open a company in Dubai and then keep the money there. This needs to change. Now that Dubai has introduced corporate tax, this can be a great opportunity for Pakistan to attract back the businesses.

Pakistan's main problem in that they continue to live in past!! Saying that Pakistan was doing well than India 30 yrs back has no credible evidence....is more a heresay! Living on donations from America will not create Economy....it will create only charitable institutions...stop the donations or charity, the institution collapses. Indian economy was definitely not in good shape at that time but there was no leadership vacuum and it had already set the direction for harnessing its immense human resources.... that's how today India is where it is.... it is not built only over past 30 yrs...as it is assumed ....though it did gather pace since 1990's.

When you decide to start a business, always look who your competitors are. Pakistan will have to compete with India and it will be at a disadvantage there. When India entered IT industry, there was hardly any competitor. All the IT experts you create will ultimately migrate to western country. End of story. What is the incentive for professionals to stay in Pakistan? Zero.

Religion is a sixth century politico-militant doctrine. Religion is always use as mode of conquest. In Abrahamic religion indulging in any activity or thought which temporarily or permanently stops oneself from thinking about god or following gods commandments is forbidden to keep the followers in military discipline that's why questioning the belief (checking historic authenticity, scientific study) , idol worship, polytheism, apostacy, prophet hood, yoga meditation, sexual feelings , non virgin, homosexuality, intoxication, music are considered biggest sin in Abrahamic religion.
A true believers biggest motivation is heaven and the only intoxication should be submission to god. Also not going to worship places, not obeying pastor ,not studying the religious books are also considered bad.

This way, he could have lots of fresh blood and people leaving him after 2 years won't ask for pay rise for being senior... Also, these people then send dollars back home anyway. It is a win win situation for everyone.

These business men talk like family businessmen in 1080 in India. They were fully supported by the existing political system. Only Mr. Mehboob made some sense. But thinking that India progressed on only IT is wrong. These industrialists are protected and don’t face real competition and their dynasties are lazy and incompetent. Open all sectors. Don’t ever subsidise them expect basic sectors like agriculture and education. Govt and other establishments like military should not be on business. Govt should spend money on infrastructures like road, rail, ports and airports. Govt should deal by digitalised homogeneous and transparent system. Last but not the least , the govt should stop Jihadi business
