I had a J Plate Hillman Avenger - never got my mates love for their MK1/MK2 Escorts. They paid a premium because Foooooorrrrrdddd but in reality the Avenger was at least as good if not better
Thanks for sharing, what a beautifully kept Avenger, brings back memories. A colleague in the 1990s had a L reg Orange Avenger for years, with Ban The Bloody Ivory Trade sticker on the boot
Horror story input here - an old pal of mine once rolled a brand new Avenger Tiger mk1 when he was working as a mechanic in Pembrey, South Wales, leaving it on its roof on Forestry Commission land, about a half a mile from the garage he worked at, albeit not after he'd walked back there during the remainder of his eventful dinner break. Everyone needs a hobby !
After the takeover of Rootes Chrysler Australia naturally inherited an assembly plant and Hillman cars and Commer trucks. They tried with the Hillman Hunter, a luxury version called the 660 with a vinyl roof and a sports version they called the Hustler. Around the same time they were looking at the parent company's buy of a stake in Mitsubishi Motors. Fortunately for Chrysler Australia they went with local assembly of Mitsubishi cars. Unsold Hillman's stuck around in Chrysler dealerships up until 1973 they say.
The Avenger was sold here in New Zealand between 1970 and 1980. For 1980 in NZ, the Chrysler branding was retained. In Chrysler form, the NZ models were 1.3 GL 4-door, 1.6 GLS 4-door and 1.6 LS Estate.
me too my dad had two Hillman versions a 1970 1500gl and then when that got rusty he bought a 1976 1600dl....not as plush as the earlier car but boy did he get his moneys worth out of that car keeping it for 20 years. the engines outlasted the bodies

Memories of my late fathers' Royal Blue 1.3LS Very slow, but quite comfortable. Those Sunseeker seats are so very 70s.

What an exceptional vehicle! Lovely to see the Pentastar on the steering wheel!
Thank you Bruce, and Alex!
Our pleasure!
Cars like this have soul. They connect with people for infinite reasons depending on the individual. Electric vehicles have no soul.
Such a rare and Lovely car, must be one of the best out there! Thanks for sharing!👍

I do prefer the earlier Hillman Avenger but this was nice to see, very Escort Mk2 I always feel

I've got one of these. It's a 2014 Dodge.
Very nice to see this car. But the mark 1 avenger was prettier.
All the parts were made by Quinton Hazel in South Africa owned by Dennis Thatcher so I wouldn't throw a bucket of water over it if it was on fire.
