Thank you for your body of work. I am heartened by each of your presences. I use the 40 f.2 as well for an easy carry around kit and enjoy it a lot. Proper job, thanks!
Noticeable differences when taking , but hardly any real differences , when in the hands of true professionals like you two , in the viewing !!! A session full of stunning pics , which we all adored . Love all of your London walk shoots . Especially grateful we are , that you braved the freezing November day . Thank you both .
Both of these take the system in another direction. For the size and weight they increase versatility. I took them both on a recent trip and found they added several options.
I've got the 28 mm and 50mm MC for my Z50 and sold the 16-50 zoom. A great combo I think, and they both work on full frame which is another big benefit the day I buy a Z6ii which is on my wishlist. I also got the 50-250 DX zoom which is also excellent and a bunch of F lenses for my D4 or adapted to the Z50. Very good to be able to use old glass seamlessly!
I have both the 28 and 40mm, as well as the 35mm and 50 1.2. It might seem like a slightly cluttered group of focal lengths, but actually in practice it isn’t, because I would bring the 40mm in situations when the 50 is too much to carry, and the same goes for the 28 for the 35 to a lesser extent. One other neat trick! The 28 and 40 both have 52mm front threads, which means the Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter fits on the front without needing step up rings. If you use the Viltrox Z extension tubes and the ES-1, you can get 1:1 or 1:1.5 magnification and digitize slides with autofocus on either FX or DX (40mm for FX, 28mm for DX). You can also digitize negatives with the ES-1 by making your own negative carrier out of paperboard or whatever you have to hand. I thought I might as well since I already had the ES-1 and the negative copying was the only functionality I missed from the ES-2.
Looking into scanning with the 40mm combo with Viltrox extension tubes. Which tubes did you use and would you still recommend? Don’t feel like getting a MC50 macro just for scanning 35mm 😅
I have both. Super light, fun lenses. I have found I really like the 40mm focal lenth. I have always enjoyed the 35mm….probably why. In my personal world, my Z7II has a grip, and I use it with larger Z zooms, for landscapes, mostly on tripods. But in the city, its my Z6 and going light.
I am a prime guy. I already got the 28mm SE and I'm looking forward to get the 40mm soon. Perfect for using on my compact Z fc/Z50. They would also work nicely on any full frame Z body. Perfect for carry around and shoot. I was out shooting yesterday with a 17mm and a 50mm on my Z fc and the 17mm was a bit too wide for what I was trying to do and the 50mm was a bit too narrow. So I'm guessing if I pack the 28mm and the 40mm, they would fit my use case perfectly.
On dx 28mm = 42mm and 40mm = 60mm. Soo 28mm on dx is not so wide. 40mm on dx for me is abit to zoomed. But on fx they are great lenses. On 28mm i really love that u can get really close to subject.. its the same on 28-75mm F2.8 ,ou can get really close.
I had a craving today to see Becky & Kon so I watched several of their review videos, including this one. I've had both of these lenses since they were first available. I've used them on Z 6II, Z7 II, and now on my Z f and Z 8 cameras. I am always pleased with the images I get with them!
Thank you for your guidance. I appreciate you both for your shared knowledge. The Z 28mm on my Z 50, along with the Z 24-70 F4 S. Then the Nikon 1 NIKKOR 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Lens (Silver) for my V1. The one prime 28mm is all I need, as the 24-70 F4 S is as good as a prime. The V1 setup is economical and more than adequate when I need a wider lens.
At last some content on affordable equipment, things have been getting very up market lately. 40 f2 will be my next lens. Not a fan of 28mm as a focal length, it never seems quite wide enough, prefer 24mm.
I just bought the 28mm. Love it so far. Funny the EDC solution for me was a lens. I use it on my Z6ii. When I want a tighter view I just dx my camera. If I had the 40mm and wanted a wider view. I’d just pan and stitch in Lightroom. Great vid as usual.
I recently walked the exact same route you did, from Victoria to Piccadilly circus, via Bucky Palace, St James Park, Pall Mall - and took photos of virtually the same subjects, except for the green parrot! 😂
I just got into Nikon this yr, with my new Zf, which completely grabbed my heart soul and money, after shooting Sony for almost 4 yrs now, mainly street. It did come with the Nikkor 40mm F/2 kit lens and then I got the 28mm ai-s vintage lens also @ f/2 in superb mint condition from Japan for my manual focus itch...! LOL. Iv'e heard and read that these might be the best creative lenses for a more modern appeal and take on the traditional (more boring) 35/50mm prime lens kit duet. I also paired the 28/40mm with the newest Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8. for a better rounded 3 prime lens kit. Maybe ai-s 135mm or go wider -16mm next in the not so distant future. Or maybe the 14-24mm f/2.8 as a first zoom... Great to find dedicated Nikon content from passionate like-minded folks like myself!!! CHEERS!!!
I bought the 40mm on black Friday last year. I'm really impressed with that lens. It is a very sharp lens with lots of detail. It's almost like a macro lens up close. I bought it mainly for street but it can be used for portraits and landscape. I find it to be a good compromise between the 35mm and 50mm. If the 40mm is this good I can only imagine how good the 50mm f/1.8 is. The 85mm f/1.8 is next on my list though.
Just bought the 28. It’s incredibly good! Even better than expected. Think I’ll also get the 40. They’re light and small, so they’d be great for travel photography.
I’ve fallen in love with the 40mm focal length in general. I have the voightlander 40 F1.4 and an older Konica f1.8. I really want auto focus so the Nikon is next. Great review
Well Becky I live in Florida and I know right now that cold is just a memory. That warm coat is hanging up in the closet somewhere. Be sure to tell them all about t-shirts shorts and flip-flops.
Don;t know if it is just me, but the 28mm photos almost all seem better than the 40mm renditions of the same subjects. You’ve got me seriously considering that 28mm f2.8 - 28mm on my Z6 and 42mm (equivalent) on my Z50. Two lenses for the price of one. Hmmm.
I have the 40mm f2 and am watching to decide if i need to purchase the 28mm f2. Im looking for the difference the wider angle makes in street photography. Watching both of you compare the shots at Buckingham Palace is very telling.
I now have both (as of today). Why can't we have an f/2 (or lower) prime pancake thats somewhere in the 20-28mm range ? That would be the ideal complement to the 40mm f/2.
On the used market these two are so cheap...i had to buy both! But on my dx camera i end up using the 28mm almost all the time. I'm thinking about getting the dx 24mm 1.7 instead of the 28mm, but i'm not sure if it is worth it? Thanks for your effort and videos! Hi from Germany
Hi can I use the 28mm for my z50 camera to cover some sights in switzerland and italy ? Monuments, some landscpes, streets etc. ? Please guide thank you
I have a z50 and its my main camera along with my Fuji Xpro3. My Xpro3 is my everyday carry with an 18mm| 1.4 and a 27mm |2. I do however adapt my Voitgtlanders full frame from my DSLR the 58mm| 1.4 and the 40mm| 2. I LOVE THE LOOK of the Voigtlanders and FUji Lenses. I don't like adapting my older voits on the z 50. When I do get the full frame z body they will still need to be adapted.. Now that Voigtlander has Z Glass I will purchase. Maybe the 23mm and the 50mm. We will see.
I purchase the 28mm and I am so so about. It is nice compact lens, but for street photograph, I would take my Z 50mm f/1.8. I think the sharpness is nice. I wish or prefer the 35mm for Christmas, not I'll keep it for now.
November in Feb, sort of time travel right? Hey, actually, I would have been more into seeing how they do in low light --- cos you know, you get more time off work to get out and take pix when the light is lower...
Or....you could stick your pancake 28-50 f3.5 ai-s (with a micro range at 50mm) on your 750 and shoot easy "focus range" street or the ~ 1/8 turn normal focus ring, with beautiful optics, small and light, all up about $625US these days, if you can find it. Just sayin'
This is an interesting vid. I normally shoot Sony fullframe body with Sigma 28 1.4 and Sigma 40 1.4 but they are huge and are for astrophotography at night. I might try walk around my hometown and shoot with them during daytime.
I think I’m switching to Nikon thanks to these two lenses.. I hate how large most full frame lenses are, makes me much less likely to bring my camera with me when leaving the house.
Well these 2 lenses are not bad but they look very poor even the SE versions. I don t understand why Nikon at least on the SE version didn’t build them in metal, put a metal bâtonnet and didn t add a diaph ring. This should have made a beautiful combo. And it was possible : Viltrox did it with its 35mm f 1.8. So on my side I resold the 2 SE plastic version and bought the Viltrox 35mm.
Bonne continuation. olivier_svoboda from Marseille 😊
All this video shows is the weakness of being stuck with a single prime. Most of those shots could have been better with a versatile high quality zoom.
Bought this duo as soon as they were available and loved them for their portability and discreetness.
I have both of these. They're great for packing light, and foot-zooming.
I have the 40 f2 and I love it. My z5 came with 24-70f4 and I can tell the 40mm is a huge bonus because of the f2 and small. I love these lenses.
Yes I got both lenses and love them. 28mm for the puppy cam with the Z fc and 40mm for the product showcase with the Z5.
Thank you for your body of work. I am heartened by each of your presences. I use the 40 f.2 as well for an easy carry around kit and enjoy it a lot. Proper job, thanks!
I have the 28 and use at at wedding receptions! Very small and light with f2.8. Great for this and the price is fantastic.
Thanks for this review. The muffin lenses. Great pictures especially the closeups. I got both.
Noticeable differences when taking , but hardly any real differences , when in the hands of true professionals like you two , in the viewing !!! A session full of stunning pics , which we all adored . Love all of your London walk shoots . Especially grateful we are , that you braved the freezing November day . Thank you both .
there are not many nice and calm people on youtube as these . Just love listening to

These two lenses deserves more respect. They are sharp

I have both of them for my black Zf with grip. They look awesome! Will put them to the test soon.

Best comment and tip!
great tip! I'm undecided between the 2, but going dx on the 28 is great tip!
I adore my Nikon gear...but I love my Ricoh GRiii (28mm) for everyday and walkaround...so that 28mm gets my vote!
I use both lenses but the 40mm wide open is really unsharp in details so I go back to use my 50mm f1.8 . The 40mm renders well at f4…
I recently walked the exact same route you did, from Victoria to Piccadilly circus, via Bucky Palace, St James Park, Pall Mall - and took photos of virtually the same subjects, except for the green parrot! 😂

Both lenses are useful and have their purpose, especially if you have both a full frame and crop frame camera.
I do enjoy the walk about videos.

I love my Nikkor 40mm f2, I took one of my favorite images with it.😊 This is like my 5th time watching this video, thanks for the video
Finally, compact lens reviews 🤩
Just bought the 28. It’s incredibly good! Even better than expected. Think I’ll also get the 40. They’re light and small, so they’d be great for travel photography.
Thank you very much! Such a delightful video.
I'm taking both on an upcoming long long hike and happy for the small lenses that compete weight wise with my APS-C camera.
I’ve fallen in love with the 40mm focal length in general. I have the voightlander 40 F1.4 and an older Konica f1.8. I really want auto focus so the Nikon is next. Great review

Hopefully I’ll be getting one or other of these (to be honest, I don’t mind which) in SE format for Christmas to pair with my Zf…
I own both lenses they're amazing. I use them for Astrophotography and regular photography. I'm so surprised with the price of them but super amazing.
I have the 40mm SE version on pre-order to pair with my Z fc. I love my 28mm SE.
I prefer the 35 to 40mm focal length so the 40mm F2 would be my first choice.
I pretty much keep the 28 on my fc.
I use the 28mm z for my business. Video and pics content!
This is way better than buying a viltrox
Hi can I use the 28mm for my z50 camera to cover some sights in switzerland and italy ? Monuments, some landscpes, streets etc. ? Please guide thank you
Can´t wait to teste my new 28 mm in NYC inside a week!
i bought a 28 for my Nikon FE2 last week. beats digital

I wonder how the Nikon Z 40mm f2 compared to the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2 for Nikon F mount??
November in Feb, sort of time travel right?

The elite does not want you to know but the ducks in park are free. I got 451 for myself already
If you put the Nikon Z camera in DX mode, the 28mm becomes 42mm.

I think I’m switching to Nikon thanks to these two lenses.. I hate how large most full frame lenses are, makes me much less likely to bring my camera with me when leaving the house.
They're not pancake lenses.
If they're pancakes then the Nikon Noct is a compact lens! :)
Very, very informative 👏

Be careful of the WIND
I have the 40mm and like the size and portability for the money

I got 28 f2.8 & 50 F1.8 S! ❤️🙌🏼
Becky and Kon, the Royals of GoW
Starting to think I should have bought these two vs the 35 hahaha!
1: 24 Kon don't know he have a flip screen in the camera? ;-)
Used the 40 on z50.... Works a treat
What do you mean with: “if you are tourist you cant”?
It’s a joke
Great video
Those lenses are called “cupcakes”.
How can you call them pancakes… ?😊
I gave my mother the 28mm f/2.8 lens for Christmas for her DX camera. A great quite small combination shot wide open as well as stopped down.
Rather muffin than pancake Aren t they ?
Did you see the bear at 8.00?
👍🏾
non pancake pancake😂
