that's not dedication that's crazed obsession. Joseph Seed and all he stands for is akin to what happened in JonesTown and is a horrifying reminder to those of us who remember that tragedy just how dangerous men and women like this can be. Men and women who have the power to control large groups of people with a radical mentality that can and will cause horrific damage to those around them to meet their own ends. It is a horrifying thing to witness and even in this game it terrifies me to think a person like Joseph Seed might again walk this earth and follow in these steps

Anyone else notice that Joseph talks about how he saw a white horse and how hell followed with him, and the sheriffs name is whitehorse.
It was a neat detail, and it's implying that we are literally gonna bring hell to his cult, which is exactly what we do.
This proves Joseph was wrong because if you chose not to arrest him then if no one comes in the following months the people would realize that they're in a cult and fight the remaining cultists. I will not admit that he was right because he manipulated everything so he's a hypocrite and so I won't accept that he was right because that's what people want you to say.
The game has several such subtle references to the book of revelations. For, instance take a look at the old sign in front of John Seed's missile silo bunker in Holland Valley. "Black Horse Peak Launch Complex MT-68" ;-)
Book of Revelations 6:6 : "I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand."
Even the MT-68 is a reference in itself

The part where the plane crashes and the father sings louder and the far cry screen comes up is the most chilling part. This was hands down one of the best intros or games I’ve ever played

He was a great example of a poor law enforcement professional no respect for the citzens he protects
man, that was intense. That's some crazy influence when someone will willingly jump into helicopter blades to prevent you from being taken. The way he so calmly sings during the whole helicopter sequence is creepy and interesting, especially after the crash. The calm and controlled whisper. Awesome! Think I'm going to have to get this game now and see where this story takes me.
Love me some good single player story modes. FarCry 3 was epic. Hoping this is as good
They took father, walk with him while they are surrounded by armed people - nobody react. They enter heli and ppl getting crazy. Obvious, slow paced and boring.

I don't know about that one, tone stays the entire time as long as you stick to the story, if you go out doing side missions and exploring you can't really blame them it's an open world game, only thing I did not like is getting kidnapped about nine times when I have a person that can take an army out

So good that it STILL brings me to tears and covers me in chills. I remember how awful it felt when he answered the radio, and Dispatch was one of them.
“It was a white horse... and Hell followed with him...” as he stares you right in the face and almost gestures towards you as he raises his hands to be cuffed.
Considering the absolute killing machine you’re destined to be in only a few short moments... he called it... you were the embodiment of Hell about to be unleashed on the valley.
It is actually amazing how good this intro is,how he silently tells you that no one is coming to save you, how this mellow version of amazing grace plays in the background,the fact that we were always alone since Nancy was part of the cult as well, just great really.
People can say what they want about this game compared to Far Cry 3 or 4 or whatever, but this is my favorite game for this reason, I loved the setting, it felt close to home, literally.
The music just really adds to it. Gives you those home comfort feelings.
The tiny musical cue from 8:46-8:56 is so damn good.

@@keithm5378 it’s insane how genius this game is. We are led to believe that the seeds are the bad guys of the story, but it turns out that YOU and the sheriffs were the 4 horsemen. With each region you liberated YOU broke the seals and YOU caused the apocalypse.

Far Cry 3 and 5 imo have some of the best openings ever in gaming: really atmospheric and just drive home the point of the ever growing feeling of “oh shit, I am in a bad place. I should not be here.”
Far cry 5 has one of, if not, the most memorable intro in the game of all time. It's been 5 years now, I can feel the despair of them wanting to escape from there.

If you didn’t know sheriff Whitehorse says “not every problem can be solved with bullet” and when you talk to Joseph and you can either walk away or fight. he says “when will you learn not every problem can be solved.” I think it’s chilling when restart the game and you realize he repeated the sheriff from the beginning.
Also notice how when Dutch saves you Joseph is on the radio saying “You are my children, and I am your father, and together we will March to edens gate.” Which is EXACTLY what he says to the rookie at the end of the game.
The Father singing Amazing Grace and it playing in the background is honestly quite terrifying

I feel like the Marshal was a wasted character. He could've have a really good character arch where he starts off arrogant and as the story progresses he mellows out and gains some respect. It just seems like a waste how he ended up.

Funny thing: my custom character for the sequel, New Dawn, looked almost identical to Pratt, so I could easily see him returning to Hope County years later to face his past, discover the Deputy survived, and make it his mission to bring Rook home, which he does after dealing with Joseph.
For Marshal Burke, I made up a headcanon where the bombs and New Dawn where just a bad trip the Deputy was having while trapped in Faith's bliss, and the Judge is a split personality created by Jacob's brainwashing, which the Deputy has to defeat in mortal combat to regain his mind, and upon returning to his senses, he finds himself being experimented upon by Faith and some scientists from Kyrat. Rook kills the Kyratis and chases Faith through the bunker, hears the Marshal on the radio and finds out his death was part of Faith's hallucination, and gets to the controls to let the resistance into the bunker. The Deputy and the Marshal then work together to take down Faith, and upon interrogating her, learn that she was the one pulling Joseph's strings the entire time with the help of the Bliss drug, and she'd been working for Kyrat's new leader, Ajay Ghale who supplied Joseph with nukes and brainwashed him to set them off to make America pay for betraying him. Realizing his hallucination of New Dawn was a vision of the future, Rook realizes he has to find the nukes, and sets out to find them with his partners. Willis Huntley returns and tells Rook that the tape he retrieved contained data revealing the location of the nukes, allowing government agents to neutralize them in time, and he then recruits Rook and his partners (Marshal included) to go help take out Ajay.

One of the most fucked up scenes in the series. His followers are so contempt of their life that one would throw themselves into the helicopter propeller to save Joseph. Took me a few moments to comprehend. The amount of control he has over these people is terrifying

There are a few aspects of this opening sequence that I take issue with (namely that the federal government is only sending _4_ officers right into the middle of the territory of this group that's effectively an evangelical protestant version of ISIS), but I really like the way Joseph reacts to the police officers coming to arrest him. Vaas, Hoyt, and Pagan from the previous games are all very flamboyant and over-the-top bad guys, so I like that Joseph is comparatively quiet and low-key in how he speaks. It seems like Joseph somehow _knew_ you and marshal Burke were coming to arrest him, despite there being no obvious way he could have caught wind of that confidential information beforehand. He's very calm and knowing with everything he says, like he anticipated that all of this was going to happen. He's completely confident when he says that "God let won't you take me," which ends up being vindicated when it turns out the radio dispatcher for the police was a Project Eden mole the entire time. The way he acts before he's arrested is an effective bit of foreshadowing, as in all likelihood he was informed beforehand by his agents that the feds were moving in to crack down on the project.
Eden's gate isn't a Christian cult.

Say what you want about this game, this was one of the most AMAZING intros I've ever experienced in gaming.

After the helicopter crashes and the Farcry 5 thing pops up and the singing i got chills down my spine
ngl when i saw this intro the cult were the 1st Far Cry villains i was genuinely terrified of, Vass was terrifying but he was hilarious but the cult they were truly insane
I played half of far cry 3 and really couldn’t get into it. I was expecting it be so great because of how much people hyped up Vaas. I found him silly and over the top and not that scary. My partner has been recently replaying the games and when they mentioned that far cry 5 was about a cult I jumped right in. Cults are so fascinating to me and I immediately got hooked into far cry 5. The villains in this game are far more terrifying because not only are they deranged, they use psychological manipulation as well and I caught myself questioning if maybe they had a point several times. They have a creepiness to them that makes me so uncomfortable and they do some real fucked up shit but they also have this way of making me feel like I could trust them which makes it even scarier.
I need this version of amazing grace so bad. 😭

He may not deliver the same "oomph" as the other Far Cry villains, but i see Joseph as the most intimidating because he's the most REALISTIC of them all. Cults growing larger and more devoted until reaching the point of being an actual threat to their respective governments has happened an unsettling number of times and is still happening today. For it to happen to your own town and or family is such a scary thought.
2023 still one of the best game intros ever. For me it’s right up there with the tram ride into Black Mesa.

I was a big gamer as a kid and when I got older I took a huge break from games until I was well into my career. I ended up buying a gaming PC one day and got this game with it. It has been years since I played games. This intro blew my mind. The last game I played with that much story and tone at at the time was halo 3. I love this intro

Replaying this game in 2021 has a different feel to it man. Joseph Seed is handsome, charismatic, and so cuckoo for cocoa puffs that it makes every encounter with him batshit terrifying.
But it shows you how a good looking, charismatic person mixed with a religious element can quite easily do something like this in reality.
I have to say this is one of the best intros I've seen in a long time.

He looks at the Sheriff, cause thats his name and then at you. So basically you are hell because what you do ingame leads to the seals opening and thus

That always bugged me.
I love this intro so much. Feels like the moment in Apocalypse Now when the team arrives at Col. Kurtz’s hideout. The statue makes you realize the scope of it, getting a sense of how deep into it the people are to have built something so large and erected it without interference. Such an overwhelming “what the fuck are we thinking?” feeling.
I also love the shot of the compound. The church building is the most normal, yet ominous looking part of it; everything looks as though it has organically grown out from it, kind of like how Eden’s Gate spread out to dominate Hope County. The original organism. It’s the epicenter of a group of people crazy enough to brainwash an entire county, and you’re expected to walk right into it to arrest the leader. Some of the best dread buildup I’ve experienced in a game.
I think its also great how basically everyone on the heli (except for the marshal) is scared shitless. Experienced sheriffs with extensive training in combat and survival, and still this cult was enough to give them second doubts.
That line right before he puts his hands out for you to arrest him is so fucking bad ass ... how you are pretty much a harbinger of the apocalypse

Definitely my favorite part of the series. Farcry 3 was the best in the series but this intro has the best intro
What really gets me about Joseph Seed is his natural charisma to influence others amplify that with the bliss and Joseph ends up becoming everything to his followers. What is terrifying about all that there has been people like that throughout history capable of for lack of a better word swooning a nation to believing their ideals are in the best interests of the world's and their own.
Now this could be a stretch, don't get me wrong, but around 8:30 Jacob, Faith and John walk into frame behind Joseph. Jacob frequently looks over to Faith and John as Joseph is speaking, and then looks away back to Joseph. Faith and John are watching The Father preach with absolute concentration, never breaking their gaze, but Jacob stares at them, then looks away, shaking his head. I think he does this because he knows everything Joseph is saying is BS, but he just goes along with it, which is also heavily implied in the Far Cry 6 DLC for this game. Jacob knows the other two are buying into everything Joseph says, which is why he is staring at them.
The part when that person jumps to the helicopter wings to save the father and the father singing in the face of the rook gave me chills

This is one of the best game openings, no doubt. I rembember when I bought a new pc and installed this game 2 years ago, went to work and when I came home at night I got high and turn my pc on, I see this game so I say lets try this.. In that time I hadn't play a good game for a long time. And as first I see this opening, the music and atmosphere were so amazing. I was hooked in a few minutes, thanks for the enjoyment. In the other end the game itself was not that good because far cry is all the same in every part. But I enjoyed it. because of its atmosphere, music and the scenes like Marshall speech on boat and Joseph ending speech it was all very awesome and made the game good.
