  • In prepping my OM617 to put into my 1982 Jeep Scrambler, I found my glow plugs were dead and upon removal found that one had a tip broken off in the pre-chamber. No amount of picking and praying would get it out, so I had to order the tools and take it out the proper way. In the video I said I got one of the tools from Peach Parts, but it was actually Pelican Parts. About $70 total for the tools. I had my own slide-hammer.
    Apologies for using my phone for this video. For some of the two-handed parts of this job I had to put the camera down. Use your imagination. Sorry for the vertical pane at the end. I'm no Tavarish or Hoovie!

    Hi, I removed my injectors and it seems that none of my pre chambers had the heat shield washer installed, the inside of the prechambers look exactly like yours on 4:31 I would like to ask you, is that without the heat shield washer or is that washer in there? Thank you!

      This was so long ago I can't remember. I was putting this into my Jeep and I was never happy with the power (or lack thereof) so I pulled it back out and sold it. I learned a lot on this one!

      @@spuddoright1970 That's funny, I have the OM616 in my CJ5. After a night of searching, I found that actually those heat shields where from a certain aftermarket brand of pre chambers with rivetted in, reusable they say, heat shield. And yes, you can pull them off which I did.

    What's are the inside threads pitch size on the prechamber special tool?

      I don't recall. This was several years ago and I've since buried the tool somewhere.

      Now a days, a lot of tools have metric threads.

    Hi. One question. Isn't it possible to use the first tool that you are using to remove also the prechamber? It seems that the thread of the nut and the thread of the prechamber are similar.
    I would imagine to purchase only the first tool that you are using and adapt a slide hammer on it. Possible according to you?
    Thank you

      I think the threads are different which requires a different too.

    what's the part number for the prechamber removal tool? Can't seem to find it on peach parts.

      Here's a link: www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/BM6150007.htm?pn=BM-615-0007&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsdiTBhD5ARIsAIpW8CLcchCtzbqHDHvNjY1oQE9MWTi9Ek774Bq7qVqbSEAECDaJs4Lu2XQaAgylEALw_wcB
      If that doesn't work, on Pelican Parts site it's a Baum Tools "Mercedes-Benz Diesel Pre-Combustion Chamber Retainer Ring Pin Wrench" w/ part number BM-615-0007
      Hope that helps!

    Could you hear the tip of that glow plug while engine was running? was it making a tapping sound?

    • @spuddoright1970
      @spuddoright1970  4 года назад

      I didn't get the engine running w/ the broken plug. The tip broke off when I was removing the plugs to replace them.

    If the glowplug tip breaks off flush at its base, so the full length of the tip, will i be able to remove the prechamber?

    • @spuddoright1970
      @spuddoright1970  5 лет назад +1

      Probably not. The chamber needs to be able to slide out and if the tip is broken and the tip hasn't fallen into the pre-chamber it will prevent it from sliding out. If that happened to me, I would use a pick or similar tool to push the tip all the way into the pre-chamber and then do what I did in the video. Once you can see the tip floating around in the chamber (from above), you should be good to go ahead and remove the chamber.

      I think I used a 17 mm deep socket, but i'm not certain on the size. I don't have the engine anymore.

    Hi! Great vid. Can You tell what kind of internal thread is used inside of prechamber? Is it M22x1,5 or finer? Im trying to build hamer to remove my prechambers. Btw, great collor of the block. What kond of paint did You used?

    • @spuddoright1970
      @spuddoright1970  2 года назад

      If I recall correctly, the threads were standard metric threads, but I'm not 100% on that. The paint is a Ford engine paint. There are two Ford colors to choose from and this is the "new" Ford blue.
