I can defiantly say the more processing the more you overthink things and when you have less, the sound you can achieve the same way engineers like you and industry ones.

I only use an eq plug-in and channel strip plugin on my imported tracks along with Pro Tools Heat. It just always works. ✅

@@audionerdlilcuz I only use compressor, eq, saturation, and limiting. Of course everyone’s different it’s just the fundamental of how you use your plugins the way you use it. It’s like a portrait 🥰

Wondering if you’ve ever experimented with balancing kick and bass with a VU? Kick/s only metering at -3dB VU, kick & bass metering at 0dB VU. Mix all other elements around kick & bass.

Thx for this! In Logic x I've been putting my "reverbs and delays' on their own VCA's (as agroup), letting me solo/mute/ride/automate freely.....quick and convenient. Cheers

As for phase aligning live drums I did a test about 3 months ago of manual alignment using stereo correlation meter (I did 0.5ms steps up to +/-5 ms for each drum track until the phase was looking and sounding the best) vs Auto-Align 2 and I must say that Auto-align really sucks compared to manual alignment. The drums sound really fat the and the transients are sounding great in the manual alignment while in Auto-Align 2 version the transients are blurry (you can hear sort of doubler, flam effect even when choosing more proper values inside AA2 by hand) and drums sound brighter with more unncessary sub bass (which is also fluctuating weirdly, it's not stable and natural sounding). Auto-Align 2 can really mess up the drum sound. A lot of times it's even better to use just an old polarity switch method than Auto-Align 2 if you don't have time for a careful manual alignment to keep the drums sound more normal.
As for the mix - I wonder why the vocals are so harsh/ultra bright and very compressed while the drums are dull/boxy sounding? Kinda weird mix decision for a laid back track like that, to my ear the vocals sound like they're from some crazy bright EDM track (overprocessed) while the drums sound like they're from a folk or jazz song (raw sounding). If I were about to mix this track I'd probably try to make the drums sound brighter and fatter (kinda smiley face more top more bottom + some juicy neve-style saturation), the piano wider and bigger (less honkiness, more low mids and presence) while making the vocals sound more natural (less harsh, less compression, more low mids, more movement in the high mids/highs, natural feel) to feel the music and the performance way more. But that's my take/POV. Cheers!

I use both AA1 and 2, for this track I just liked the feel of AA2 for where I am taking this album.
As for the vocals, that juxtaposition in tone/charachter happens throughout intentionally, there’s also a super gritty rock-style tune with smooth creamy vox.

    😬
Feels like I’m at Chucky Cheese learning how to mix.
If you wanted a relax mix why did you fix the phase to the kik, before it was bloomy instead of punchy?
There’s too much frequency intensity to feel relaxed imo.
Space, ace, and bass didn’t prevail here or not a good example.
    Keep the videos coming🙂
