Great vid. I will be replacing my manual M240i when the time comes. Extra help on specking is very valuable. I’ve got black with red leather and would like to repeat, but I can’t see a red leather choice on the car speccer.

Great vid, even if some of the info doesnt help someone like myself for the packages due to my locale. I'm a US customer and have a build date the first week in March. We get a few more tire options between all season, performance run flats and non-performance run flats, but generally speaking, similar in packages and pricing. I would have loved to see the true M performace seats, but i can wait for the M2. 😀
One thing I would love to see, though it's rarely shown in reviews, is nighttime driving, lighting discussions, etc. Apart from that, keep doing what you're doing because it's brilliant!
Would be great for a comparison as a daily driver between m240i, m340i and m440i

I ordered mine last year to replace my F22 M240i without seeing any in real life and before any reviews came out. Arrived last month and not regretted it one bit. Maybe because it's currently a rare car (due to delivery delays) but i am seeing loads of photos being taken of it, whether its when i am driving or when at traffic lights. Not had a negative comment about it yet from anyone. Such a pity that some delivery dates now are late 2023.

Nice i Just got an M140i Today i'm a few years behind you but i'm Absolutely Buzzing.
I bought a shadowline, black sapphire with tacora red interior. It has the premium package, upgraded HK sound system and the cooling & high performance tire pack.
I’ve been driving trucks for the last 16 years and owned a ‘73 2002 many years ago. I’ve been wanting a 1 or 2 series for years. My truck decided it was done and I bought the m240i. It was time to have fun driving again!
This thing is fast and handles better than I imagined. It’s also a wonderful road trip car. I drove from San Francisco to LA and back averaging 33 mpg while enjoying a very comfortable ride in comfort mode. Put it in sport plus and the car is transformed.
I spent more than I wanted but it was a clear choice for me compared to other cars in its price range.
I had no idea about the ordering process of the individual packages so this was a valuable insight for me and really entertaining to watch. Having only purchased second hand so far but will shortly go this process, it helps big time to know what I’m going to be looking at. Thanks Joe, and to you too Tony, for a really well presented video. I’m hoping the NZ dealers are as patient and accomodating as you clearly are.

Seemed to be quite a common theme with the new BMWs that the cars look better in person compared to the pictures, seen a few M3s, 4 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupes and all of them look so much better in person then they did in the pictures, the pictures don't tend to grab the proportions too well in these new styles, I'm guessing this 2 Series Coupe will also look good in person.
Have to agree, except for the 2GC, still think that thing is hideous, and is also pointless 😂

@@seechim For me it seems pointless too, it doesn’t even look like a 2 series, atleast the 4GC looks like a 4 series. If you want a 4 door 2 series, just get a 3 series or a 4GC
Really look forward to seeing the M240i on the road. At first I wasn't sure when I saw it online, but really starting to like the looks now and just wonder how it'll look in the flesh. That purple metallic really suits it, imo!
I just ordered my US spec M240i in Portimao Blue with Cognac interior so it can be done for N. America ...can't wait! Test drove one last week here in Stuttgart and couldn't believe the power of the B58 engine. Got a feeling the advertised HP/torque numbers for this car are conservative !
On Friday 24 Feb I updated my M240i order to include the No893 Wheel & Tyre pack as suggested by Joe. Thank you guys your detailed explanation on what was in this and other options. This has really helped me refine my order. Now she is Grey on Red leather and brakes with Gloss black replacement for all the external cerium grey. And textured aluminium instead of piano black interior. Build March due June 22.

@@emza7170 Yes Red Leather seats are a standard option with and a little leather on the door cards.
I live in America and had mine since December and I can say it’s much better in person than the pictures have you believe. I was very unsure until I seen it. I traded from the previous generation and I agree styling leaves something to be desired the performance it’s on another level.
Couldn't agree more with Joe's point about passive suspension on the m140.
Ride never felt settled on uk roads and was the worst part of the car by far.
In future I'll always be going with adaptive
Its harsh but as soon as I swapped to non runflats it made a huge difference.
@@ScottPC i heard that so swapped to mps4's but didnt improve it much ride was still poor

I went from literally not even knowing this car existed to seriously wanting one/considering trading in my car. Give me purple, blue, white with tan interior and the sporty rubber. Almost the perfect sporty daily.
Thanks for the video Joe, it was invaluable consumer advice! The ordering process can feel highly pressured (mostly self-induced) and it is easy to get a bit carried away 'in the moment'. Seeing you go through the spec on a car I am seriously considering (test drive pending) and with Tony's insight it has allowed me to apply a bit of rational thought before taking the plunge.

Tow bar on a m240i is great! Not many cars are fun to drive and have a towing capability. This is one of the reasons why I am warming bit to the new M240i. Really hoping that new M2 will also have it but doubt it.
Jet-ski, snowmobile and so on need to be towed!
The towbar was the reason I've swapped from a TT to the 240i. Need to carry the bikes!
I had a look at one on Saturday. It was very obvious that Tony knows the spec of the car far better than the salesman I spoke to!
Speccing cars is definitely an interesting video because it gives an insight to something that the majority of people will have never seen. It's informative for people that want to order a car soon, and it's interesting for car fans that just like to dream!
This is a really great video Joe! As said elsewhere it’s great to get the insightful knowledge of an expert dealer and to know what tools and resources they have to help out together a configuration.
It’s also great to get a real world understanding of what an option does. As someone who prefers a bit of comfort I’ve always looked away from the M adaptive suspension thinking it was primarily to stiffen things up even more. Knowing that it actually gives you a wider range of options at both ends of the suspension setups is a revelation as is that the standard suspension is probably a little more sporty than you think as it has hit a job to do. Love that description!
If we can do more of these and in particular any that go into new technologies and options as they come out so we can understand what they actually are and mean that would be great!

Nice video, Joe. I ordered one after driving it at the Test Day in Munich last year. A big issue here in Ireland is the Pro Pack is a €3k extra (and it really would be a no-brainer at that) but it pushes the car into the top CO2 band. The result is the Pro Pack effectively becomes a €10k+ option here.

I just ordered a 330e M-sport in Belgium and heard from the dealer, who is a friend of mine, that they have received a mail from BMW that the HK sound system is available for order again. Don't know if that is across the full range but it appears that the possibility has been expanded below this M240i once more. Lead time is also much shorter now, "only" 4 months. I ordered a 320e about 7-8 months ago and that still hasn't arrived and I had to drop the HK sound system on that one. The chip shortage seems to be slowly getting better. Just a heads up for anyone looking to order. Apart from that, I love these speccing videos, keep making them!
Belgian here as well. Ordered an i4 M50 in January, dealer says delivery around July 2023. One can only hope they do it faster, but apparently Belgium did not get a lot of i4 (M50) allocations, compared to NL.
@@michaelcoussement4335 An i4 M50, nice one, that is a beast of a car. I was considering that one over the 330e M-sport but the dealer said the same: realistic delivery time is about at the start of 2024 and he didn't think it was going to be sooner, sorry to say. Official delivery time was indeed somewhere in 2023 but he said he would be surprised if that was accurate, realistically. It's apparently indeed because not a lot of M50's were allocated to Belgium, my friend said the same, and it appears to be hugely popular. I decided not to get one because I need my car sooner
@@BinaryBlueBull I still have a nice car to wait it out (Maserati Ghibli) and didn't need a new car immediately, just in time before a Maserati becomes very unwanted in the Belgian fiscal climate...
@@michaelcoussement4335 Yup, same reason I'm going for a hybrid. Next one will be fully electric. I will truly miss the roar of an ICE but it would be fiscally irresponsible of me to buy another pure ICE car again, especially because I do want some actual performance as well
@@BinaryBlueBull 330e M Sport is an awesome car for sure! I just couldn't pass on an M branded +500hp car that would cost me a lot less than my Ghibli. And finally I'll have a car with carbon parts, been wanting that for 10 years hahaha. Surprisingly cheap on the M50. Patiently counting down...

@Bart M you know what. I like it. That red is gonna pop on that beautiful brooklyn grey. Brooklyn is my favourite colour. And your one is fully loaded option wise, all the technology and comfort options. All the goodies.
This video is amazing. Even though M240i is far over my budget I like to spec it online. Was hard for me to understand all the options (still easier than Porsche). But this is nice insight.
Thanks Joe this was very helpful. Just spec'd mine (US model) mid June build for mis July delivery. After watching this I'm adding the pro tire pkg and illuminated M trim. + the cognac seats. But I think those are the base seat for the US... Your spec-ing was a lot more detailed than the dealer.

Hi Joe- picking my M240I in Brooklyn Grey with Congnac leather which looks stunning on Saturday - what was really surprising is the 230I with similar spec was only £100 pm less so complete no brainer using Alphera finance.

Tony I am local to Melbourne BMW and had been a customer for over 20 years. But in the last few years it just isn't the same dealership anymore!

These types of videos are fun, but they have a major flaw. The main question with options is "is it good value for money?", and you'll just never get an honest answer for that from a dealer, who would never criticize their product or their corporate overlords at BMW. Thus, I do enjoy the discussion in this video, but at the end of day I'm not surprised that every single option gets hyped. When you want true and honest feedback, don't ask a dealer of all people

Interesting that the UK doesn’t get many or rather any wheel options. In Germany you can have the standard wheels in full black too and some other design. But Pro Pack is kinda a must on the 240i anyway imo. Although the normal 220i M sport can have it too, which is a bit of a shame.
And loved watching this, I’m also spending way way too much time on configurators, so this type of video is perfect for me. Glad you got inspired by Nick, he’s a great lad!

I just want to be able to:
1.) Delete the sunroof off the M240i
2.) Have the adaptive headlights without the Live Cockpit Pro
3.) Spec M-Performance seats in Oyster (they should totally offer a Silversone interior on this model)

Yep, I hate sunroofs. All they do is make it impossible for me to wear a helmet and add weight.

Watch out for M240 Pro Pack. It costs £1700 but pushes CO2 to the next bracket new car tax so actually adds £2150 to the price. I still ordered it. Delivery next month!

It’s such an immense car compared to my old M140i, doesn’t feel as silly under acceleration though, much more sensible!
I get the angular racier lines, its the design direction they are going for these days.
But its doesn't flow , that rear looks, well, rear ended in an accident.
Surely looks better in person. Better than the M3.

That's the one annoying thing about the North American market, even though the M sport seats aren't standard they should at least make it an option because they just fully uplift the interior.
Nobody talks about the summer tire versus All season tire option....the all season tire option comes with a 130 mph governor. If you plan on tracking the car, this is an issue.

Nice spec. I think Thundernight would also pair well with the cognac interior. Unfortunately here in Aus cognac interior is not currently an option but we are offered Tacora Red
In Oz you can have cognac leather but you have to upgrade to the MSports seats that do not have lumbar support. So extra cost and a thinner seat but they look great if your back can take it. Mine could not so I ordered Grey with red leather & red brakes both no cost options in Oz.

I ordered one with the standard wheel/tire package because it will be far cheaper to put aftermarket wheel/tires on it and sell the stock ones.

I've spent many an hour looking through configurators 😂
I'd be impressed if you did one on Audi and spent more than 30sec on options - I've ordered an A5 and the only major option was Comfort and Sound 😟 (which I opted for 👍). I'm disappointed that I couldn't get Parking Assist Plus which gives you the option to have the car steer itself in to a parking spot 😔 But generally a good spec anyway. I couldn't even get an engine\model badge delete - now that's just lazy on their part.
