This to me is Elton and Bernie's greatest ever composition; a brilliant performance at a time when Elton's life was in turmoil. Sends a shiver down the spine every time I hear it ... And the greatest accolade for any composition is when it is matched, surpassed even, by a cover ... in this case George Michael's plaintiff cry ..... Just brilliant. Shivers.
I’m in my 50’s now, I was working in long hours in London, at The Savoy, when this album came out. I was living in a crappy bedsit. I had a newfangled portable CD player. The album took me to a dreamscape, I would close my eyes and just listen. It certainly helped me escape my surroundings. Thank you Elton John.
Even with all of the problems he had with his vocal chords he still continued the tour and pushed through and I respect him for that. Even though he may not be singing absolutely perfectly, it’s still beautifully and it adds so much emotion to the song. This whole concert is one of his best performances, imho. Thanks for posting!!! One of my personal favorites from Elton. Blue Moves is a great album that seems to get forgotten in his catalogue.
This was the first concert I ever went to. I was 10 years old. This is the first time I have ever heard this song since then and I can honestly say I knew it note for note. I remember him sitting up there under the spotlight, what he was wearing, everything. I remember my mum was in tears throughout that concert and its hard not to be for me now.
You are extremely lucky to have been there to see this. I don't think live music gets much better than this. And special to have been there with your mother. I have similar recollection of my own mother taking me to see The Police in 1983. Best memories.
This song is sublime! The intro with the build up of the orchestra is insane! 😍😍 I first heard this as an 8 year old as my mum would play this record a lot. The sound was incredible!
Every time I listen to this song, I silently dedicate it to all those on this big marble that are going through hard times. Be it a single person, a couple, family members, or our world leaders that are at war. I believe in L O V E, & P E A C E. We all need more of it in order to heal.
Absolutely SUPERB & this Mozart-inspired costume, his hair, everything is my favourite Elton outfit. He wore this outfit at the concert in Brisbane I attended. It's PERFECT for him. :-))
6:17 is one of my favorite moments in all of music, i just love the raspy desperation in his voice, perfectly matching the beautiful text, as he reaches the songs climax
This magnificent song has become special for me. 3 years ago I was blessed with my 1st grandson and a little more than a year ago he got a " brand new brother ". Those 2 brothers have made my life worth living even more. Love the message of this beautiful song.
Love this performance above all others! Elton John has always been my favorite performers of all time! If I was granted one wish to meet one person, it would be Elton. He is not only a talented man but an awesome human. Love the work he has done to help AIDS! Lost my best friend in 1992 to AIDS!
Thanks Philip, I remember this concert well. I was heavily pregnant with my first son, who danced through the whole concert. I thought he would be born there and then, but hung on till Australia Day. He is now 31.
Beautiful song, I am always getting chills listening to it. And that concert in Australia, Elton with his husky voice before surgery makes it even more deep. I love you Elton since I am 8 year old and will always love you
His unintended messed up voice actually is the icing on this masterpiece of a performance. Anything changed here would ruin it. I’m not a big Elton John fan but this floored me. Wonderful!
I gotta say that in 1976 I fell in love with music and it was through the Captain Fantastic and Brown Dirt Cowboy album that lit the wick of music admiration that has taken me to so many places. Ok, to this song. I remember when it came out, already an EJ fan, this song was as good as anything classical (and I'm a fan of classical music). EJ's piano playing is sublime. There's so much said about EJ, but his ability to take up Bernie's lyrics and turn them into gems it's like the song came from one person and that's such a rare thing. But what I realised very early is how much I adore his piano playing. He's my fave pianist and I've listened to people like Glenn Gould so I know what's good. In this performance he's not only got the pressure of pulling this show off but he's got to get his piano playing right in an orchestral context. He's gotta be so precise and disciplined. Always loved his piano playing and have never heard him play a bum note. Classically trained from age 4 EJ, even though his teacher said he was not committed enough, you can really hear how confidant he is across the keyboard. His triplets, melodies etc are sublime and the number 1 thing people never mention about EJ! It's so weird! He's an incredible piano player...my favourite for sure.
What you said is "right on" ---Elton John is a great pianist, singer, and entertainer! And he and Bernie Taupin were a great team, giving us many classic hits, excellent musically and lyrically.
6:27 at 6:30 that's why i've loved sir elton john for 40 years ......07 january 2020 he gave 1 million de dollars for australia in fire thanks and long life sir elton
He is very excellent artist! I realy like his huge decalage of his funny costume of artist in front of a very professionnal orchestra! q0; And his performance, nothing to say! Just perfect!
SIMPLY AMAZING! I was 12 when i heard it through headphones! It always overwhelmed me with sensitivity and emotion! Such raw emotion of a lovers quarrel caught in music! I could actually hear the storm approaching! i am 12 again!
XXX
Tonight Do we have to fight again? Tonight Oh, I just want to go to sleep. Turn out the light But, you want to carry grudges. 9 times out of 10 Oh, I see the storm approaching Long before the rain starts falling Tonight Does it have to be the old thing? Tonight Oh, it's late, too late To chase the rainbows that you're after I'd like to find a compromise Place it in your hands My eyes are blind, my ears can't hear Oh, and I cannot find the time Tonight Just let the curtains close in silence Tonight Why not approach with less defiance The man who'd love to see you smile Who'd love to see you smile Tonight Tonight Just let the curtains close in silence Tonight Why not approach with less defiance The man who'd love to see you smile The man who'd love to see you smile The man who'd love to see you smile Tonight
His live in Australia whith the Sydney Melbourne Orchestra is amazing. Not a big fan of Elton John but the guy is amazing. This is as good as it can get.
I actually saw this performance. His voice was noticably hoarse, but there's something about that that makes his performance all the more beautiful and sublime.
raspy voice and I think he had vocal cord surgery soon after this Australia tour. But, I love this arrangement and I think the raspy voice serves John well here.
I love his voice better now. He did have throat surgery. I sent him a letter to hospital he was at. He wrote me back!! Still have it. Still can't get over it!🤩🤩🤩
His voice here makes this amazing. This is the best I ever heard Elton John. The feeling is complemented with a a weathered voice. Not a big Elton fan but the performance blew me away. There’s a pain in the voice.
Yeah, the videos you have been uploading are amazing. I haven't ever seen this much raw footage of Elton in all of my time watching concert recordings.
If you are reading this. You are a kindred spirit who recognizes beautiful music
Indeed

Guilty...so happy..

I had the privilage of seeing this concert live in Melbourne...once in a lifetime experience

Im very moved to hear this. I love this concert.
You are one lucky soul.
Omg... Just omg
You will never see anything better again. I will lay money on it.
I agree that the album "blue moves" is underrated. This song is really original.
Stunning, Elton is the world’s best performer and his teamwork with Taupin incomparable.
Never heard anything like this....otherworldly. But of couse I expect nothing less of this man.
This is one of the most amazing performances
Best version of this song he ever recorded. Best version of his voice too. Love it.
I dont think so. George Michael it´s much better
Edinburgh 76 is way better IMHO
His voice in 1977 at Wembley was sublime.❤
This song is sublime! The intro with the build up of the orchestra is insane! 😍😍
I first heard this as an 8 year old as my mum would play this record a lot. The sound was incredible!
My favorite Elton John song of all time. This version is incredible.

I was a teenager when I listened to this vinile album, in my room. It is still emotional listen to this song 30 years after.
Me too! I think I was 16. I had it on tape! I learned this song on the piano back then... Haven't played in 20 years though. What a song! Great album.
One of the most beautiful songs ever thank you Elton you bring tears to my eyes
I keep revisiting this clip. It's a MASTERPIECE!!!
This entire concert. It’s amazing. Elton john above all else is always better live
I love it also, so beautiful. It really relaxes me. Seeing him again soon, can't wait!
He’s still better live! Just saw him last week in Columbus. He’s not lost a bit!
Beautiful song, Beautiful album! My favourite.
😘
Ray Cooper always can find a way to show his energy suitably, whatever in rock or classical.
Absolutely SUPERB & this Mozart-inspired costume, his hair, everything is my favourite Elton outfit. He wore this outfit at the concert in Brisbane I attended. It's PERFECT for him. :-))
I was there too! 3 nights in a row - so amazing!
The amount of emotion in this song is amazing.... I love it
Elton John is a god amongst men as far as musicians go.
Best album and performance by EJ
De otro mundo... belleza y perfección. Estremece el alma escucharla...
6:17 is one of my favorite moments in all of music, i just love the raspy desperation in his voice, perfectly matching the beautiful text, as he reaches the songs climax
This song is so touching especially Eltons solo at 2 mins into it. Always brings a tear to the eye..... amazing musician..
George brings me here... I must say that the orchestra intro reminds me of studio ghibli music...i would say the entire music sounds magical...
One of the most underrated tune and it is ashame because it's a masterpiece!!!
Possibly my favorite EJ song. Goosebumps. And of course the George Michael version is brilliant as well.
This magnificent song has become special for me. 3 years ago I was blessed with my 1st grandson and a little more than a year ago he got a " brand new brother ". Those 2 brothers have made my life worth living even more. Love the message of this beautiful song.
One of my favorite albums! I've always loved the symphony and Elton John together they have made beautiful music❤

The orchestra makes this extraordinary
I really love EJ's sad songs. Very rare and precious in these times.
I gotta say that in 1976 I fell in love with music and it was through the Captain Fantastic and Brown Dirt Cowboy album that lit the wick of music admiration that has taken me to so many places. Best EJ song in his catalogue. Orchestration is superb! Piano is superb! Voice is stellar! Damn…this is just fine music!
Can we all appreciate the vibe of the guy playing the tubular bells? That guy is a mood unto himself.
He is very excellent artist! I realy like his huge decalage of his funny costume of artist in front of a very professionnal orchestra! q0;
And his performance, nothing to say!
Just perfect!
this has been us these past few weeks . i want you to listen to these lyrics feel the piano this is my heart crying out to yours
To all those who haven’t seen it…George Michael’s cover of this song is truly amazing. Almost as amazing as this.
I would say better even Elton said George was vocally better
Obviously, you know how great this song is at this point. if you understand it, then you get it.
SIMPLY AMAZING! I was 12 when i heard it through headphones! It always overwhelmed me with sensitivity and emotion! Such raw emotion of a lovers quarrel caught in music! I could actually hear the storm approaching! i am 12 again!

ELTON JHON LO sempre amato fin dagli anni 70 ero 1 e sarò sempre 1sua fans
I love Elton's songs
Tonight!
Since high school
Someone can relate
King of the kings
Tonight
Do we have to fight again?
Tonight
Oh, I just want to go to sleep.
Turn out the light
But, you want to carry grudges.
9 times out of 10
Oh, I see the storm approaching
Long before the rain starts falling
Tonight
Does it have to be the old thing?
Tonight
Oh, it's late, too late
To chase the rainbows that you're after
I'd like to find a compromise
Place it in your hands
My eyes are blind, my ears can't hear
Oh, and I cannot find the time
Tonight
Just let the curtains close in silence
Tonight
Why not approach with less defiance
The man who'd love to see you smile
Who'd love to see you smile
Tonight
Tonight
Just let the curtains close in silence
Tonight
Why not approach with less defiance
The man who'd love to see you smile
The man who'd love to see you smile
The man who'd love to see you smile
Tonight
Amazing 😍

Amo essa musica ... Me lembra a minha juventude... Beijos do Brasil 🇧🇷
Bellissima ... La ascoltavo di continuo
What has happened to us? Where has the music gone?
Well...It's been replaced with a Trump trombone...I'm sad to say.
Hope Smith lol
@@hopesmith8326 Ignorant.
No she isn't.
The good music is overshadowed by hip-hop sadly.
Powerful song.
thanks for another great video !
Yeah, the videos you have been uploading are amazing. I haven't ever seen this much raw footage of Elton in all of my time watching concert recordings.
