A huge thanks to Mason, Carter, Larry, and Lisa Klein for letting me stay and film! Thanks to Todd @dirtbyk for setting everything up and Lexi for chauffeuring me around in the side by side! Also, sorry Mason for almost beaning you with an fpv flyover at 11:35 🤣🤣 Great luck at Dakar KORR!!! LET'S GOOOOOO! Much love as always!
When I watched the episode with Itchy Boots and Mason where he brought out his pencil, cardboard, made Road Book box that he taped to his bike, maybe at age 7, he had me. Mason is in it for the love of the sport. That energy has amplified the US interest in the Rally series; not excluding Skyler and all he's done too. Tyler's not wrong in his assessment that the rally influence can, at least, help the dual sport genre of bike/market.
Hey tyler, Have followed your videos off and on for many years. The last 2 that I have watched, the one with your interview of Mason Klein and the last one with you on the podcast, have been extra interesting to me. The reason I'm saying this is the way things have changed in off road competition. In my time in local AMA competition there was motocross, desert /cross country and enduro. I tried all three and finally settled on enduro competition. Enduro at the time was very similar to Rally riding now, in that you used a timer and a paper roll chart and a odometer. Nothing fancy , anything that would stay fixed on your bars and not fall off and actually be able to read it at speed. To me it wasn't a race, it was could you keep your speed and be on your minute when you came into a check point. 1 point for every minute late and god forbid you burned a check because it was 2 points for every minute early. 0 was the object. I did this for many years and it was a shame that enduro change into an all out race , no time keeping no strategy just go as fast as you can. With the bikes that are available now you could actually ride to the enduro and compete. I think there is a need and I believe that people would like this type of competition. Modern day Rally racing (Dakar) is a speed event but you do need a lot of experience in following a route chart and have a strategy. You have to actually do some thinking instead of just twisting the throttle to full lock. I think this kind of thing would help with what you are talking about. Well I've rambled on far enough but thats what you do when you've ridden off and on road for almost 55 years. Keep up with the great informative videos and the amazing drone work.
My father and I have been Dakar fans since '79 and I watched as many as I could over the years. I mostly focused on the 4 wheeled vehicles, but always enjoyed seeing the amazing bikes and their riders. Mid 2000s had the best helicopter chase scenes of the field, often showing a lone bike rider dealing with dunes and simply surfing almost impassible sand dunes. Sadly it also has the most pained moment in memory, the loss of Fabrizio Meoni, the eloquent and super capable rider. Dakar is no joke, so in many ways, his loss was the reminder that not only the dangers of then nations on the brink of chaos, you also had to survive what the road threw at you. I am happy that Dakar bikes are going to be something regular riders can enjoy, but I hope folks realize how utterly dedicated and dangerous the art of endurance racing is. I salute all those who strive to excel at it.
90 minute long Everide video right on Christmas break? - hell yeah. I have also been starting to follow Dakar more so yeah im looking forward to seeing this in full Thanks
One of my favorite posts, Tyler. Here in the east you navigate all our dual sport rides with a roll chart. These events are almost exclusively put on by enduro clubs. All the property out here is private so the only way you can put on a big event is in association with an enduro club. The clubs have agreements with large land holders primarily coal and timber. Within the last few years most events will also include a gpx file as many guys run gps these days. It’s definitely a skill, running a chart and riding difficult terrain simultaneously.
Great Video Guys really enjoyed the content especially about the relevance of the road book versus fun 😂 definitely for me at least giving me a little more confidence to follow through with the given directions. I agree with what you're saying about Rallying it's great for the Dual sport market and Motorcycle navigation in general cheers
Couldn’t agree more. I’m a hard enduro guy who has been wanting a bike with RANGE and I can put it anywhere I put my 350. And EXPLORE! And to do what I call HARD adventure camping and the pr7 does it all with ease. What a bike! Now I want to race rally to fix my navigation skills because they SUCK!!!
Whether you are rally/DS/Enduro/ADV/China/no-China/Jap/Euro I think we can all agree on the awesomeness of dirt riding. Personally, with the amount of back & forth polarizing content on social media, including the off-road "community", I would just like to take 10-20 minutes to sit & watch some sweet off-road video/drone goodness.
You don't need to go off-road. Even on-road community plenty of clowns these days calling themselfs motorcyclist while they are not riding unless it is at least 20 Celsius outside and then need stop every 20km even on touring bike for cigarette and for stretch 😀 The best one giving advices all around and then duck walking before every stop on semaphores or not capable of low speed handling at all. Reminds me one similar guy here on the Internet spamming all Kove videos about chinese paid actors and propaganda 😀
Hello, thank's for great videos! I getting my Kove 450 today. I have order the SC Project muffler, and airfilter pro. Will this two things alone give me some more power? Thank's for replay marry chrismas 🎅 from Greece 🇬🇷
I am very interested in roadbook navigation. I have DMD2 on my bike and it includes a digital roadbook program. I will need a bar mounted controller (and of course some roadbook files) to use it. Rally and rally bikes have always interested me, and I would love to learn roadbook navigation.
It‘s just a description of waypoints, odometer to keep track of your position and compass for following a certain direction. I think red bull motorsport did a video recently.
Dual Sport bikes are one of the few growing categories in the motorcycle industry. MX and metric cruisers are flat if not declining. You should get a copy of the yearly motorcycle industry news and breakdown of sales by category. MX will be the first to go like in 08’ when we have our next recession. Dealerships are starting to see the signs of this with excess inventory and big discounts. Finding an MX bike is ways these days compared to many dual sport/adventure bikes
@@mxbadboy263 2024 will be a good time to find a deal on new bikes! Good thing I got my Kove before prices go up. It's such a great bargain for what you get.
You can get it down to owning Two bikes that will go anywhere in the world.. But never 1 bike that goes anywhere you want. And with Two bikes that means one will need a trailer and can't be going on its own for freeway rides all over the continent .. The other won't be doing rock crawls and mountains because of its weight.
But Rally bike is for the situation when you do not want to and are not interested in the rock climbing or going steep uphill between trees in horrible terain. It's for when you want to explore surroundings or even more distant areas, but you need to get there on the road and enjoy that part as well plus turn whatever trail or field road is on the way. You want to go solo, you do not want to have luggage and you do not want to have even option for passenger. Plus at least here a lot of even main roads in bad state. So you do not want pure enduro bike or trial one and in the same time you do not want SUV bike for reasons above + weight and its balance. Sure, niche market, but in the past there was KTM LC4, Suzuki DR350 as an example. These days was AJP PR7, now Kove and at least Fantic. Sherco seems never willing to put it out to public, Honda same, KTM Replica limited numbers and skyrocket price, Himalayan Rally will not be before 2025.... And if even 5% of BMW GS owners goes even at least once over continent is I think huge over estimation.

Yeah I disagree that it is dying. More manufacturers are releasing bikes and focusing their efforts on dirt and dual sport bikes. The T7, Tuareg 660, kove 450, klx/crf300s, KTM 790/890, triumph 900 rally, Ducati desert x, updated klr650.. idk all those bikes are dual sports to me, they can all ride dirt at speed and have decent road manners. Ymmv
It definitely not dying hes really just pointing out Japans lack of interest in making 400-500cc single cylinder EFI Dualsports which is weird the only brand making one is Honda with the 450RL
I am a huge fan of you @eveRide (especially as a fellow veteran), but recently I feel the videos have waved off the course I normally loved, not sure if its the recent Kove stuff or the pro rider thing, not that I know anything at all. I don't think Dual Sport has really ever faded, its era beginning as street bikes with knobbies in the 70s to now, I mean many of them same bikes are on the trails now, XR400s, DRZ400s, and so on and so on, I tried this video but it lacked the normal everide I know and love. I will be out that way sooner than later, hope to cross paths!
Dual Sport has always been here, just not much marketing on internet, CRF250/300 are the proof of this, other manufacturers are trying their best to drag buyers away from it, but doesn't seem like anything else ever make more sense than CRF for general riders not dirt or road or touring or trail ... specific but it's the perfect barebone to be modified to be the almost perfect bike for specific people.
I agree. Dual Sport is alive and doing well. I've had the CRF300L and at $5,300 it's a fantastic deal and a great Dual Sport. Here in the Midwest at 800' above sea level the DRZ and Dr are also great Dual Sports.
I like watching Dakar but I don’t know any “names”. With this story I’m rooting for Mason. Saw the other interview in his storage container with the bike too, seems like a modest low key guy. Best of luck Mason Klein.
I think the Kove is a very interesting bike offering a 450 with 8 gallons and 320 pounds weight on paper, but I DON'T like the Fairing. At least not as a "dual sport." To me, as the Kove stands, it seems like what the adventure bike concept was supposed to be before manufacturers decided "Offroad" and "500-550 pounds" belong in the same description of a bike. I think if they cut the fairing and some of the fuel tank capacity, it could be a pretty radical trail biased dual sport, but as is, it seems more for the wider trails and the fire roads than the single tracks and the technical terrain obstacles.
If they increase the price the Kove it looses to Honda and KTM. Most dual sport riders are not bombing across the desert at 80mph so they don't need a rally bike. Is the Kove $4000 better then a used DRZ? Competition in the market is always a good thing and I hope Kove dose well and I hope other manufacturers take note and we can have some competition in the 450 class.
@@inrptnI get what your saying but after owning a DRZ400 it's damn good if not great as is. The cv carb has none of that herky jerky off on throttle response like my efi motorcycles. A sixth gear would be nice but leave the cv carb on it.
The best bike ever written in the desert or rally tracks is the XR 650r. The oem suspended when dialed in makes those whoop’s disappear. I have a Ktm 950, 990, 450 xcw & 300. I would love to add this stable. But for this type riding my money still goes with the 650r. Prove me wrong.
Rally is absolutely the way forward. With new technology like the "RAM Rally" platform; creating a rally team and participating in a local rally may become as common as a pickup game of basketball.
Rally bikes could be the new two wheel alternative to Jeep 4x4 mall crawlers. They look mean enough to get some motox cred at the starbux vs the porky 1000k plus adv bikes. Image moves units.
Kove have really kicked a goal with their 450 Rally & they are smart enough to realise competing in the Dakar adds a new level of legitimacy to their Chinese brand. The Chinese are accused of copying other brands, will we now see other marques following Kove's lead? The Dakar--bee segment is set to explode. Good luck Mason in the upcoming Dakar'24.
Yeah, people act like the Beta dual sports don't exist. I had the Beta 450 and it was an amazing Dual Sport. Everide needs to buy one of the new Beta 450 dual sports and do a review.
Adventure bike no need for any trailer or truck.. Dual Sport.. Not great for 2,000 mile trips with Single track but doable. Dirt bikes need a truck or trailer but not good to test local road laws.. Limits for each type of bike.. How about just pick a weapon and use it to its limits and know it's limits?😂
It is simple, tell Honda to release de XR 650 R with electric start. And then ask the other japanese brands to do one like it. I don't like fairings on these bikes. All the KTM´s seem very good if you are rich, because reliability it is not there. why does not KTM fix the issues of the bikes?
Why has every Ktm I've owned have terrible WP forks? The xplor fork is a bargin basement simple fork on a premium priced motorcycle. The apex stuff on the Norden is an embarrassment.
BINGO. They could give it estart and beef up the subframe a bit and maybe bring it up a bit electronically and fuel capacity wise and it would sell out. I think they could do it and still keep it near 320 ish lbs. I ride an XRR! Hard to beat the power AND longevity! Buddy of mine has 30K on his original top end!
In our declining economy i can‘t be bothered to spend 10k+ on a new motorcycle. I‘ll use my xr 650 until either it or i fall apart and at least in one case i will have enough money to buy the next used one from a cheap sucker like myself.
Top Ten Reasons Why Dual Sport Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Can't see other bikers through 20 layers of tear off's. 9. Got a Mauna Kea 200 race face on and can't be bothered. 8. Killer 2 inch tall knobby tires vibrate so bad vision is obscured. 7. Bark busters and gummy grips slows the hand from raising quickly. 6. Just can't take time out from doing that 10 mile wheelie through traffic. 5. The full face chin guard helmet sticks out so much it blocks view to wave. 4. Off road elbow guards, chest protector, fanny pack, drink system binds them up 3. Only recognizes Dual Sport riders with every after market race part known to man. 2 Too busy checking GPS doing mental time/mile math to the next Beer/Burger pit stop. 1. Preoccupied passing street bikes @ 60mph off road through the trees, shrubs and rocks. ~Gasser Classic~. ruclips.net/video/fjq0RYgpdbM/видео.html
11. In my case it's because despite how slow I'm riding my focus is fully occupied looking for hazards and trying to keep the bike upright. There is a good chance that I noticed your wave but it was too late for me to return. I'm a rank novice here and doing my best but am in a little over my head. I didn't mean to slight you and apologize for giving you that impression. I hope you can find a way to forgive my inexperience.
The Kove is not a “Rally motorcycle” it’s a Chinese Dualsport with little to no dealer network, parts availability or knowledge to work on the bike. A rally motorcycle is a race tuned 450cc fire breathing dragon with $5,000 custom suspension. The Kove is no more “rally” than any other Dualsport just because it has a rally fairing. The KTM 500 is much more of a rally bike than the Kove. Anyways I hate arguing definitions because you can rally race any motorcycle. You’re right about Dualsporting being left behind for the manufactured to focus on Adv bikes. However I don’t think the Kove is going to shake up the industry and suddenly make Suzuki put EFI and 6th gear on a Drz or have Yamaha make a WR450R.
@@Buddha-ci8fz That doesn’t mean anything to 99% of riders interested in Dualsports. Wow they FINISHED the Dakar. Bravo. Let me know when they last 50,000 miles without a top end replacement. I think it’s an awesome thing!!!
Wait. Can you make a separate video on what the next evolution of Dualsport Motorcycles should be?
Any bike that finishes the Dakar Rally is a rally bike.
Great talk GOD BLESS YOU ALL
I love your videos. Twitchy drone footage makes it hard to watch the video.
Dying dualsport ?? What it's more popular than ever.
I've ridden a rally bike......I'll keep my DS.
What rally bike? What are you keeping instead of buying the Kove
A Honda. My trusty '11 530 EXC with lots of goodies including steering stabilizer and high compression head.@@DirtByk
Rally bikes could be the new two wheel alternative to Jeep 4x4 mall crawlers. They look mean enough to get some motox cred at the starbux vs the porky 1000k plus adv bikes. Image moves units.
Didn’t know dual sport was dying.
非常棒👍🏻的视频!
Michigan roads ensure dual sports immortality.
I guess you never heard of BETA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Beta 430 S...is insane!!
Beta is good. If the Kove 450 wasn't around, I'd be getting a beta.
Yeah, people act like the Beta dual sports don't exist. I had the Beta 450 and it was an amazing Dual Sport. Everide needs to buy one of the new Beta 450 dual sports and do a review.
decent podcast
What is wrong with you people? You don't HAVE to watch the videos. If the content doesn't interest you, move on.....Jeesh. Seems pretty obvious.
ease up momma bear!!!
Good luck to Mason. Maybe next year he'll be on a more reliable bike!
Top Ten Reasons Why Dual Sport Riders Don't Wave Back
4. Off road elbow guards, chest protector, fanny pack, drink system binds them up
3. Only recognizes Dual Sport riders with every after market race part known to man.
2 Too busy checking GPS doing mental time/mile math to the next Beer/Burger pit stop.
1. Preoccupied passing street bikes @ 60mph off road through the trees, shrubs and rocks.

You do realize the Kove has already raced the Dakar and finished with both their bikes, right?
@@Buddha-ci8fz That doesn’t mean anything to 99% of riders interested in Dualsports. Wow they FINISHED the Dakar. Bravo. Let me know when they last 50,000 miles without a top end replacement.
I don’t understand how Rally racing is going to save Dualsporting. Dualsport is about cheap, reliable fun and exploration of your area.
They are "Rally" proven! So your claim is false...
@@IRLtrolls Let me know when they last 3000 miles. I believe CFMoto makes the engine, so there might be some reliability with the engine.
he just wants to argue , yes i did see they finished dakar & this bike is very very interesting love the spec sheet but the China thing is still a big hurdle for me , light weight with the rally style tower & huge fuel capacity hell yes great start for a sort of adventure bike build , i considered buying a 690 or 701 and doing the rally tower adventure bike build on that platform @@Buddha-ci8fz
