I dont mean that disrespectfully, but why would you want an organization known for such invasive methods coming in and possibly injuring, maming, or killing such a majestic resource/animal? This is so exciting, even if they fail to tag a GWS in British waters the chance of tagging a meditteranean shark that then migrates to UK waters has really got me looking forward to this. • @daleanderin1
      @daleanderin1 2 года назад +3

      I think they might find whites visiting during summer months, granted whites can regulate their body temperatures to survive in colder waters, South Africa and New Zealand prove this, however I personaly believe they wouldn't regulate body temp to visit UK waters in colder months as this can use up valuable energy searching for food that could also be found just as easily in warmer waters, hence saving them the stress of having to regulate their temp unnecessarily.

    I think that to confirm that Great White sharks do visit British waters without harming one in any way shape or form would create a bond between the British public and the Great White shark especially when the media get involved and the species becomes 'our' Great White shark overnight. Hopefully this bond could lead to a great drive for conservation and understanding of and respect for this incredibly evolved phenomenally powerful apex marine predator.

    GW sharks can be found in all oceans of the world - especially near their favourite food sources. A scientist was once attacked (non fatal) swimming off Macquarie Island (sub Antarctic). They're also seen regularly off the Hawaiian Islands. There is no reason why they wouldn't periodically travel in and around the British Isles.

    Hi Matt
    I went on a shark watching trip to South Africa in 2012 with Apex shark expeditions.
    I had an interesting conversation with Alison Towner in Gaansbaai about White Sharks in British waters. A few of the other people on the trip sneered at the suggestion of a British Great White. I hope you manage to get your own research/expedition moving. I personally think that when conditions are ideal on our coastlines the seas will be too rough to effectively monitor the presence of Great Whites or it will be first/last light when they are active ( it was definitely that case in False Bay)
    Best Wishes
    Martin

'Especially with our huge seal population, I have no idea why some people think its crazy. If its a case of 'they would be seen' that maybe because , as a population, we don't spend as much time in the water as people do in the likes of South Africa or Australia.

    The GWS's of the colder regions are the largest. But, that aforementioned statement may be untrue because sharks get bigger with age, and as people get older, they tend to retire down in places like Key Largo, and warmer climates. I've always wanted to go some place cold, and dark. I imagine Great Whites are similar: Let all of the tropical fruits go to Florida, and we'll go to the uninhabited north.

    Definitely sounding very interesting this mate , I convinced there about to , I use to jetski in the estuary where thames meets sea at Isle sheppey on rubber rings but not any more knowing the tuna have been back in numbers over last few years the predators have to be about to. The 1000lbs + mako caught in wales put shivers up me to a bit

    Love this mate! It’s going to change up my spearfishing game if they are confirmed here in the UK. I may have to think twice about trailing a couple of bass on my fish stringer 😂

    I know about the porbeagle off West Clare and blues.
    But I know a guy from Valentina in Kerry who said he seen a great white chasing a seal off Culoo rock back in the early 2,000 s he's seen hundreds of basking shark's and what he seen that day was way bigger than a porbeagle....

    Seals eating all the fish, no you mean commercial trawlers emptying the oceans.

    This will be really interesting if they do find one or even other shark species that are in our waters 👍👍👍

    We've had a lot of tuna in the Channel in recent years too, another great food source. 🍻
