Starts from 34:00, Ajahn Brahm hit the nail on the head about jealousy happening in religious centres. People sabotage their friends in order to win the attention or the most posts in the centre so that they, only they, can get close with the religious monk. It is really sad that there is lack of cooperation among these so called practitioners. I was so upset to witness such. Am glad to have Ajahn Brahm on video so that i can continue to learn teachings from him.

Buddhism IS non theistic. That's fine, and there is so much wisdom in the teaching - I appreciate, even though I accept a Supreme Being.
I used to be jealous of others who had more money than me, a bigger home than me, a fancier car than me, a more successful marriage and so on and so forth ... until I saw the truth ... the truth of why I was wanting these things ... the truth to what I was really looking for. And what I was really looking for is happiness, or Love. If I was looking for happiness, it meant I was unhappy, I was discontented ... ill at ease, bored, in discomfort. So I’m suffering !!!! ....... If I wasn’t suffering, if my present condition wasn’t any of these things, would I still seek Love? ... Would I still seek Happiness? Probably NOT. So what I’m seeking in my every day Life is really “a way out of all this suffering!!!!” When I’m hungry, I’m looking to appease ... assuage my hunger. When I’m thirsty, I do the same thing. So eating and drinking is nothing more than appeasing my suffering. I AM SEEKING A WAY OUT OF ALL THIS SUFFERING. You won’t find it in joining a club or playing tennis. You won’t find it in a relationship. You won’t find it in a car or anything that is purchased. If you think you can buy happiness, then you’re cheapening happiness ... cheapening joy. If happiness is bought, that type of happiness isn’t worth having. That type of happiness is unwholesome, it doesn’t last and is unsatisfying in the end. :::::: The Lord Buddha devised a plan for us ... the only real scheme, recipe to help us “get the hell out” from all this suffering. What’s that prescription? .... the Eightfold Path ... the Fourth Noble Truth! 12-2-20: I can’t believe I wrote this.

Jealousy? Venerable Ajahn Brahm's discourse seemed more concerned with what I would call "envy". ENVY: Envy means "to bear a grudge toward someone due to coveting what that person has or enjoys." In a milder sense, it means "the longing for something someone else has without any ill will intended toward that person." JEALOUSY: Jealous means "apprehensive or vengeful out of fear of being replaced by someone else." It can also mean "watchful, " "anxiously suspicious, " "zealous, " or "expecting complete devotion." The last is normally applied to "God" ha ha. Unlike envy, jealously always involves a third party. You can be jealous of your boyfriend’s attraction to other women, but you’re envious of your boyfriend’s CD collection. I know the words are often used as synonyms but they're not. I may sound overly pedantic, going on about semantics but my path of exploring Dhamma has profited enormously from meditating upon the meaning of words/concepts and how the reality of those concepts plays out in my life, for better of worse. I attended Dhammaloka last Friday night and heard this discourse live. As has been usual over many years, I benefited greatly from Ajahn Brahm's generous transmission of Dhamma. I think he meant Envious, not Jealous, of what others have. There is a difference. Jealousy is having your whole being invested (mostly feelings). Envy is desiring to covet what someone else have, but you have not invested your feelings to it. So even if you don't get the object of your envy, it's not hurtful on your part.
