    in one of your videos you said that what you wanted was to save even one persons life - i am sure you have saved lots already ; but i wanted to say i’ve been listening to you for a year now and i’m nearly 21 - i often feel confused and anxious about the changing world and my future and my friends and relationships- but ever since i found you, my mental health has improved so much. I feel like you have saved my life - in more ways than you will ever know.
    Thank you 🍀

    I remember an old story someone told me, that this really reminds me of. Two monks are talking about their masters. The first says, "my teacher could do such amazing things. He walked on fire, he could read people's minds, and could meditate on water to make it boil." The other said, "my teacher does amazing things. When he eats, he eats. When he sleeps, he sleeps."

    Love Ajahn's own experience of the 'chain of desire' with regards to a donation🤣😂. Matches up nicely with the story of the Buddhist nun and the mouse.
    Another one of my favourites, for sure👌😌. Thank you Ajahn Brahm and BSWA❤🙏🙏🙏

    I haven’t a CLUE to what I want in life. I say “I just want to be happy.” .... But that becomes a web in itself. I’ve been listening to AB for almost ten years now and I’m still confused as to what I want. I want to be a kinder person and I haven’t been. When I see how unkind I am to others, it shows how unkind I really am towards myself. So, I am working more on being kinder to myself.

      you only have a problem if you have a goal... if you dont know what you want that basically means you dont have a problem but you want a problems so your goal is to find something that you want xD

      @Lord Byron it is not a linear nor a quick journey😔, it takes quite a while for most ppl. to realise 'What Do They Want?' from life.
      I can relate to your 'want' in life as I'm asking myself the same question too🙌.
      Hope you find what you're looking for🙏😌

    Really one of the best talks by Ajahn Brahm, and let me tell you, I have listened to quite a few. Sometimes betwixt the oldies but goodies, he really does seem to get a special inspiration, and this talk is an example of this. What do you really want? See this video to find the answer!

    thank you 🙏- i am much conflicted over my career path, I’ve always been told to pursue a career in health to help people through medicine. But i’ve always found my passions lie in the more arts side - i’m more interested in the human psyche in philosophy and even psychology- i think what i’d love to do is become a writer but also a high school teacher and maybe even work as a psychologist in a school - but i don’t know how to make my parents see that even though i haven’t got it all figured out i still know the direction i want to head in and it’s not working as a doctor in a busy hospital

    I've been watching a lot of ur channels videos sense I've found this channel. I'd just like to thank you for what you do. I have been thinking a lot about what I want from life. the more I think the more I wanna become a monk xD. I play a lot of survival video games which is normally player vs player taking what they want and leaving the other with nothing. instead I play completly peaceful. giving away anything I have the others may need. teaching other how to survive. giving them a safe place to start before going off on their own and such. I guess u could call me an uncertified video game monk xD

    Except in real life NOBODY follows a good example (such as thief from the story). I know a person that has been nothing but extremely kind to everybody, even to the meanest people on this planet, but guess what? - Nobody ever followed that example NOR wanted to know the 'secret' (to being kind and generous) and instead they just took advantage of that person over and over and over again! ...So yeah...stories are nice but they are just stories...We can choose to be nice but the only people that will follow our example are the people that are already nice themselves, everybody else will just take advantage and it will never be enough...nor they will ever feel sorry, they will just think we are being 'stupid' for letting them get away with it...If it wasn't like that, these smart monks would be living among the rest of us and not far, far away with all those restrictions , so they get no influence whatsoever from the 'garbage society'...

    • @micb264
      @micb264 7 лет назад +5

      Luna L you are missing his point, these stories are not for thieves, they are for us, readers. My understanding is that they would help us to choose to water the flowers instead of weeds. Getting even, trying to find justice, getting righteous, feeling like a victim is something I would focus in past too. We don't choose to be kind with the condition to see results. We choose to be kind with no means to an end. I understand where you are coming from. I've drummed the same drum most of my life until I had to give a chance to a different perspective. Suffering brought me to an end. I was able to hear my complaining as meaningless noise that disturbs peace within me and around me too :-) finding that quiet place( One might call it meditation, non-thinking, nonjudgmental state ...) within myself has brought understanding of all of this. These similes are much more digestible than any doctrine. You have a choice to water weeds or flowers.

      If you care enough you won't mind being exploited anymore. In fact, if you care enough you will become invulnerable to any kind of abuse people can infict on you. And you will be very happy when you can do this.
