Marquees gave the software no confidence level that it would, could, or will be made better. He did damage the brand BUT Fisker absolutely continued on their own with a total lack of response, completely cutting off their customers, and now the note holder is in charge of this fire sale offering no details of parts, support, warranty, just total and complete disregard for the customer. I was, litterally, one day out from making a purchase on a GREAT deal. I back out, losy my $2k deposit but can you imagine being stuck on the road with no place to take it with no parts to fix it and where do you tow it to, your garage to just sit in and watch videos in the large screen.

It har constant errors and at times wouldnt even turn on. Now its just a slightly better piece of junk with 2.0. Both of Marquees review of the car was fair. Car looks good. Tech sucks. In the early days, internal combustion powered cars were unpopular because of hand cranking starting. Steam was about the same because of the time it took to get them ready to go because of heating the water. Because travel was pretty short because of the lack of roads, electric cars were actually quite popular as their short range wasn't much of an issue. The only problem with electric back then was the lack of wide spread electricity availability.
What killed electric and steam was the advent of the electric starter by Cadillac. Once that became readily available, the other two were dead.

Any potential suitor for Fisker is probably waiting in the wings for the bankruptcy to happen. It could be a better deal, and potentially they would only have to take the parts that they want. But there is also the question of what assets are there other than the intellectual property? It’s not like they own the factory or have a big dealer network.

April, your approach to EV’s is spot on. Tyler and his need for vehicles capable of long hauling in a day is in a minority.
It’s also a North American anomaly. I’m Canadian.
The data for average mileage per day is well below 100km for the average vehicle owner.
I don’t suspect EV’s can replace ICE’s soon but they are definitely the vehicle for the masses. 80/20 rule applies.

I agree, I have been driving EV's since 2014. Primarily Tesla's. All of the cars in our household are currently EV's. I am fortunate to have a charger at home and rarely have to use superchargers. I have taken long road trips and used the Tesla supercharger network. By the time my family uses the bathroom and stretches their legs, we have enough charge to continue on. I enjoy not having to go to the gas station. We have solar panels on the roof, which have already paid for themselves. Another plus is the only maintenance I have had are tires, wipers and wiper fluid.

Yeah, it's not just water-cooler talk. EV's are Impractical, Inefficient and NOT green. Not counting the mining of Cobalt, it takes strip-mining 500,000cu.yds of Earth to get enough lithium for just one EV. The best EV out there only gets a pathetic 900 on the Power/Efficiency score. The same sized Gas powered vehicles score a whopping 4500+.
Ask any electrical engineer and they'll tell you that battery power will always be the most inefficient form of portable power ever, because as the work load increases (like going from powering golf-carts to heavy cars), the exponentially worse it's efficiency gets, far worse than gas/diesels. EV's waste so much energy just while charging due to heat. There is zero energy lost filling a gas tank.
Plus with a Gas/Diesel vehicle, the further you drive on your tank of fuel, the lighter your load becomes and more efficient it is. The exact opposite is true for an EV because it's always hauling the full weight of it's battery and gets hotter the longer the trip, thus reducing it's efficiency even more.
Heck I'm not even going to go into how destructive electricity is to metal components.

Good point April. We used to have Nokias that had a 30 day battery life before needing recharging. We got used to having our phones last not even a day. Range anxiety is a real thing but for many people it is not relevant at all. I see mostly the production numbers we can make, the price difference in vehicle and charging/fuel, the charging infrastructure that isn't there yet as points why electricity is not getting there. These will all get better within 5-10 years and then electricity will become the mainstream propulsion for cars. Until then, 10-30% of vehicles sold will still be electric, because people have a use for them even with the current problems that prohibit mass adaptation.

The world is changing, whether you like it or not, but there will always be petro-powered vehicles around for the devotees, just as there are still steam-powered locomotives around for rail fans. 1.) Marques (influencer in general) isn’t responsible for companies failing!
Fisker was already in downward spiral & most people don’t care what influencers say (anymore).
2.) It’s not “cool” to crap on EVs, it’s also simply pointing out facts.
3.) It can’t be compared to cars or computers coming up, because those products weren’t forced onto you via laws (although not fully thought through & functional). They came into existence organically WITH necessary infrastructure growing at the same time.
4.) EV are proven to be way worse for environment overall, and it’s not about “climate” or similar, it’s about forcing a new economy (consumption)into existence, because the current one hit the ceiling and the social system etc. are no longer affordable without substantial further growth.

So many complex engineering problems now in new cars that are a result of making them affordable. If price was no object most Electric cars would be awesome. But who could afford them. We now have to include the cost of software teams that in the past we're not so integral in car production. Now programming is a major cost while also being an exponential increase in failure modes.
Yeah, time will heal much of this. It was actually to be expected. It's what humans do when we get excited about the future. We try to move to fast...

But they stepped up to bat twice and striking out twice because they just couldn’t get their junk to work right; and that pretty much absolves him of any portion of blame for the company tanking.

Even if Detroit Electric had stayed around, the tech would still be on the same level as it is today. They would've hit the same issue that EVs have hit noadays, just earlier. And they wouldn't have been able to make a breakthru. Just like they can't today. For that breakthru, they need room-temperature superconductors. Issue is, superconductors were discovered in 1911 and since that day they are working on creating/finding said room-temp superconductors to no avail. So, even if DE had stayed around, they most likely wouldn't have that much money to put in the research and that would've just ended up being a water drop in the ocean. Therefore their cars would've ended up just as expensive as today's EV with the same issues. MAYBE with better quality... If they cared.

What brought down Tucker was one reporter's hit piece that lit the fire under the SEC to prosecute Tucker for securities fraud. The SEC confiscated all of the company's financial books, which effectively shut down the manufacturing plant. Even though Tucker and his board of directors were ultimately cleared of all charges, Tucker's reputation was trashed, and he was now blackballed from obtaining new financing and went bankrupt. Tucker then tried to build a new car in Brazil, but then his cancer diagnosis and death ended that endeavor. The movie took many liberties and spun an inaccurate, yet highly entertaining plotline. Tucker was way under financed, which led him to sell dealership rights and luggage/radios as down payments to consumers for a promise of being able to buy a car, and all of the sales tactics were done before the manufacturing factory had produced a running car. It was those sales tactics that caught the attention of the well-known reporter and were the basis for the SEC charges. The Big 3 had their own issues to deal with (tooling up their factories to build cars instead of tanks, for one, and all they had to work with were pre-WW2 designs to sell between 1946-1948) and Tucker was small potatoes so that myth should be put to bed once and for all.

The difference between the DeLorean and the Fisker is the DeLorean is, underneath, a pretty simple car that most mechanics can work on - the Fisker is full of bespoke tech that nobody will understand or care about in a coupe of years. They are, as someone pointed out further down, as good as lawn ornaments once they break - as soon as the company goes under.

The one issue/risk with these super tech cars now is, who programs or updates the software after the company fails? No one. Much bigger issue/gamble. With older cars like the DeLorean, people had means to build or work on them. Maybe not easy but a good machinist to make a new part. With these new cars in the technology, you might make a new part, but how do you program car to work with it?

The problem I see with Marques' initial review is that the car he drove was not an official press car, from how he described how he got the car. Not an excuse for Fisker either. They should have never let a buggy car get into the public's hands. And sending MKB an updated version was definitely too little too late. Sad too because Henrik Fisker designed some great cars, he just doesn't seem to have the business acumen to build a company to produce them.

Wrong, Tyler, the DeLorean, although made MUCH more famous by the movie, WAS known by the general public back then due to the court case surrounding it. It was MASSIVE news back then. Everyone knew what a DeLorean was. NOBODY, except car aficionados knows what a Fisker is. So, no, it's NOT the same.

Lastly, the practicality of these vehicles is just not there for average people. ‘Nuf said! Bob from Spokane Valley, WA USA
