Suspension update: Before we filmed this we asked if there was a difference in hardware between the Sport and Touring trims. We were told there was not; it was just alignment and tires, which is why we said as such. We have found out that information was incorrect. The springs on sport are stiffer (than Touring) and the shocks have more compression, along with the alignment and tire choice.
Harry Metcalfe did a great video at the factory that shows the different springs and shocks, but your driving videos rock guys, your enthusiasm is infectious

Let's see what kind of shape the Emira press cars are in at the end of the cycle, will they have dead AC, out of adjustment parking brakes, bad alignments like the Evoras? They need to have someone scrutanize these cars before and after press uses them. I am a huge fan of Lotus cars, I love my Evora, but the company has to get their head out of their ass and take care of some of these low hanging fruit to improve brand image.

I'm waiting for Lotus to release a more track focused version ( GT4 style) before changing out from the Evora. As always I enjoy your work.

Are the US suspension options different from the UK options? IIRC, Harry Metcalfe said there were different spring rates and that the Sport option was too much for the street. He speced his with the Touring suspension.
Correct. There IS a different alignment between Sports suspension with the Goodyears, and Sports suspension and the Cup 2s. But the Sport suspension and Tour suspension have different springs and dampers from one another.
Oh man that opening side profile shot is beautiful, just great visuals overall. I feel like I've run into the "steering wheel blocks the speedometer" thing way too many times in newer vehicles over the past couple years
Nice format. I have seen in other videos that Lotus has specified there is a physical difference between the spring rates and damping of the sport and touring suspensions. In fact, I believe when Harry Metcalf went to pick up his Emira he showed the separate bins of shocks that were separately marked for sport and touring.

Your comment 7.07 in is incorrect. There are 2 actually 2 distinct separate suspension options. They can be checked by simply looking into the suspension area of the rear wheel well. On the spring itself it will say "Touring" or "Sport" and these are, in fact, different spring with different spring rates. Both versions are available with track mode. Just to clarify.

No matter how good your automatic is, shifting your own gears is more involving and memorable. Great review guys, historical perspective, manufacturing and comparison = top notch.
I disagree with you on the Cayman being flawless and you hit on the main issue of it in your review.... 4 wheels strut based suspension VS double wishbone all around. I have the 718 GT4 and the Cayman platform moves around too much as the suspension articulates. Not sure about the GTS, but the PASM damping curves are horrible stock on the GT4. It is under damped on the rebound stroke and pogo stick like on compression. I moved to MCS 2-way dampers because the stock PASM was so un-nerving on certain road conditions at pace. The reason that the fixed dampers work well on the Emira are two fold.... They actually have good damping curves AND having double wishbones keeps toe changes to a minimum.
@@noncog1 Very cool. They have helped a lot in taming the GT4 when the roads get crappy, especially on bumps that raise the rear-end almost to its stops with the stock PASM. I have played with different settings for over a year now and settled on 175 canister pressure all around and 9/9 on both compression and rebound F & R, while running 80/100 Swift springs. I have found that running the same compression setting as rebound is the most cohesive from a vertical plane POV, since your base curves are a 1:1 ratio for compression & rebound. When I deviate from that, the vertical plane seems to get out of sync a little and not as cohesive. This is for street use BTW, I am sure there would be benefits on track to change things up, but for CA streets, I have found these settings to be as good as it gets.
@@z06van21 the kind of customer you want as a motorsport damper manufacturer, one who goes out and plays with things and tests to find out what works best for them. The ones you dont want, the guy who literally changed his suspension geometry then when he didnt like the way the car drove sent the dampers in for service, we couldnt find anything wrong but the customer swore the car didnt drive right, we start asking about setup changes and the dudes like "well i changed the front control arms to have more.... (I forget what he had said)" literally changed his geometry and blamed the dampers lol. Really glad youre enjoying them, knowing how precise the assembly process is, and how thorough the qc process is, i have a lot of respect for the dampers.
They omitted hydraulic steering benefits, has more torque than Porsche and the amount of cheap plastic in the Cayman S is annoying… I know, own one & have a Emira on order…
Almost bought a V6 Emira. But I could get a 2022 C8 HTC with more hp, a convertible top, and more tech for less money in less time. So I requested a refund on my Emira deposit, and took delivery of the C8 about a year ago. Don’t get me wrong, I still would love to own the Emira. (Owned an Elise) But the C8 HTC is also pretty spectacular. You can’t own everything. 👍
2023 Emira was on my short list with the C8 Stingray. The Emira is such a beautiful sports car however, it lacks the performance metric of the C8. Maybe for 2025 the engine will be upgraded to over 500HP.
As someone whos owned an evora, buyers should really consider the dealer network. Waiting 6 months for parts is not uncommon. Out of my 2 year ownership, the car sat undriveable for 13 months. Exciting car no doubt but potential buyers need to be realistic about finding parts 10 years down the road. That alone is a massive deal breaker for a “forever” car IMO.
Just a note that the in studio stuff has a bit of audio-before-video lip flap guys. Since you're recording your switched output, it would be a relatively minor thing to offset the audio when you are editing the video. Also, Matt's brief VO at the 11:00 mark was about three times as loud as the rest of the piece. Otherwise, love the format, the new 360 was fun and love the car. Thanks for the content. subscribed.
Okay Matt, you got the new Boxster but it's time to bonus out Zack too. He's doing a terrific job and a big asset to the channel. Time to get him the Emira!
I've always really Loved Lotus cars, they always held a special place in my heart. The styling was always superb in my eyes, the special reputation these cars have for handling and overall fun factor. Its a very unique brand, and I really like all of the newer models. They've made tremendous strides improving upon the brand as a whole.
The Emira is a beautiful car however, the price has risen from $94K to $106K. That is the same price as a C8 ZO6. I think the hand built flat plane crank will be more compelling to consumers in the U.S. However, in Europe the Emira due to parts and service availability might be the better choice.
Surprised you said the suspension was the same for both only different tuning. Harry Metcalfe went to the factory to watch his being built and showed the difference between the road and track springs. They have different ratings and are clearly different springs.
Like the new format, my only thought is give yourself room to be yourself even if you're delivering a script. Content's good but we lose a bit of Matt and Zack and that's really who we're here for. Keep it up!
Hopefully Lotus figures out more solutions for the digital instrumentation and other minor quirks. Otherwise this thing seems to have it all for a driver. Stunning looks, engaging sounds, a fun drive.

Track mode is an electronic setting which changes the exhaust baffling, fuel mapping and Driver Assist Technologies without changing the suspension system because the suspension is passive. Passive but still varying based on whether one gets the "Touring" or "Sport" Suspension options.
7:05…. If you check Harry’s Garage factory tour video he shows there actually are two different suspensions, sport or touring. he literally picks the different spring out of the boxes and shows them to the camera

There's a small chance I built your dampers!
MCS was definitely big on upping rebound
Bro, the Turkish goat farmer look is on point!
IMO Evora GT exterior looks more unique. Emira looks good but somewhat blend. Looks like Mclaren or something
you say that likes it’s a bad thing
@@xjship It ain’t bad it’s just not distinctively Lotus like Elise and Emira
This video and format in general is top notch.
Woah. Matt you ruffle thru grandmas closet before filming?
He's role playing the Dude from The Big Lebowski. 😂
I swear i was like wtf even in the intro like Matt what the hell are u wearing lol
Bro he's a Cali hipster. Gotta confuse the viewers.
Why tf do you freaks care about what sweater he’s wearing
Dude looks Huge AF in that Lotus! 🍔🍟🥓🌭🥪 oH how bout some delicious desserts🎂🍪🍩🍨🍧🍦🧁🥧🍫🍬🍭
Can’t wait for the amg 4cyl version. The tuning capabilities would take this car to another level.
They omitted hydraulic steering benefits, has more torque than Porsche and the amount of cheap plastic in the Cayman S is annoying… I know, own one & have a Emira on order…
Should have opted for full leather if you find plastic annoying in a Cayman.
Been eagerly awaiting TST coverage on the Emira! Love this car so much
Lotus is a Toyota, they've been using their engines since 2004.....buy a Lexus. The C8 is the beast!
The C8 rules.
The looks are great and it seems Lotus nailed it again as far as handling. Unique and cool ride for sure.
Love the back and forth between Matt and Zack. Awesome video!
Great job Zach . No crashed drones or Emiras either . 😹😹😹
holy moly this production value is incredible - love this
As someone whos owned an evora, buyers should really consider the dealer network.
I really like this new video format gentleman. I can see it’s a lot more work, but it is appreciated!
Lioving the bump in production value guys, it was time, and you've executed it tastefully well!
Finally you matched the production quality with content. Great video which is also enjoyable to watch
Keep production quality high. The hard work doesnt go unnoticed. Makes me miss TUNED
+1 on adding an in-studio debrief. Great vid guys!
Two things: 1, The quality of this TST video is top notch. 2, This may have become my new favorite Lotus!!
So happy to hear Farah reviewing this. I stopped watching when he stopped doing them but I'm back
I like the full review set up guys. Nothing wrong with the one-takes but this is a good change.
Yep, only different springs. The tuning is the same between sport and touring - Eagle F1 tyres on the touring unless you specifically order Cups
Love the little bits of humor thrown in. Awesome work!
+1 for keeping this new format. good job guys
Love the new format, keep it up.
Love the new format and production level! Keep killing it! -Alfie
This new video format rocks. Can’t say that enough. Feels like I’m watching a tv show but on RUclips because who has cable in 2023
Love the format with the debrief in the end. You guys nailed it.
Like the new format, my only thought is give yourself room to be yourself even if you're delivering a script. Content's good but we lose a bit of Matt and Zack and that's really who we're here for. Keep it up!
What an excellent review and conversation! I dig it! My Emira arrived on Friday…
I like the studio conversation format at the end. Nice job guys
Living the new format, you guys are killing it!
Love the new format guys, big big step up in quality. Congratulations:)
Did they also not say that the elise was going to be the last petrol only engine they produce?
What a fantastic video, the production quality is amazing, looking forward to more videos like this
Hopefully Lotus figures out more solutions for the digital instrumentation and other minor quirks. Otherwise this thing seems to have it all for a driver. Stunning looks, engaging sounds, a fun drive.
FINALLY this channel is putting some effort into the production of the videos...
Well done! I like the split screen discussion at the end.
Love this format. I know it’s new to this channel but this is the Matt Farrah format I’ve seen when he’s a host on other channels. What an awesome car 🔥
Really enjoying the new format.
