Spyderco has a series of knives specificly for nautical purposes. They call them the salt Series they are extremely rust-resistant and I believe some of them even float if dropped in the water.
I think with the exception of the Victorinox (and the watches), nothing here is particularly nautical, just the color-way. I was expecting something like the DPX Gear RYP with marlin spike or something from the salt series.
@@etherealicer Aren't the watches too only colour wise nautical themed? Every G-shock has 200m water resistance and is thus more suited to anything actual nautical. Or an Orient Mako ect. may start at 160€ but also is 200m water resistant.
@@nirfz Yeah, I might have overshot with that. They are nautically themed watches, so slightly more nautical than the rest of the bunch (they do have the rotating bezel though, something which is used by divers). But in all honesty, the Vic Skipper Pro is also more a nautical themed knife than an actual nautical knife in my eyes, as it has a pointy blade, is not fully serrated and lacks a shackle-opener (the regular Skipper is slightly better, as it does have the shackle-opener).
Loving this high-low series!!! please keep going in every color/theam possible really into EDC adn you always get new thing that werent on my radar or other youtubers channels
Gold nibs definitely are nicer. They are softer, offer more flex, and given the higher price point are just made to a higher standard. But they are by no means a must have. There are some great steel nibs pens out there, like the Safari. Personally, I think the sweet spot for fountain pens lies at the entry-level gold nib category, you get most of the good stuff and everything beyond is just diminishing returns.
I really enjoy the gold nib for my Lamy CP1. Some say it's overkill to use the gold nibs on Safaris etc, but I disagree, it's worth it for the writing experience. I did find on some papers the gold sounds more scratchy. On nice paper it's a non issue. Micromesh and micron grid paper are great for tuning nibs. You just write how you write on the meshes from a coarse to fine grit and the nib gets polished to your writing style. Also works with still nibs. Very worth it.
Every once in a while YT algorithm sends one my way that matches the data I feed it and today sir that's you. Thanks for the video, great gift ideas and pickups for myself too. Now looking for a detailed vid on your personal notebook.
Personally, I'd have had the FIsher AG-7 or CH-4 as the high end pen, as they, like the Rite in the Rain pens, will write on the paper even when wet. (they are the OEM for the RITR pens, IIRC) And the AG-7 particularly is very nicely made. For the budget pen you can hack the Fisher refills to work in that cheapo zebra, or even use them in ANY Parker G2 compatible pen since they include an insert for that if you don't want to spring for a fancy pen. If you actually intend to write in the rain, a Rotring 600 with the Fisher refill is hard to beat. That knurled grip is perfect for wet hands.
I think the seiko is just fine for recreational diving. I wore one during grad school diving nearly every weekend and never had an issue. 100 meters is over 300 feet and recreational divers are not going that deep.
Some gold nibs are worth it - the writing experience becomes so much bouncier, and you get a bit of fun with line variation. My experience with the Sailor 21K nibs have been quite exquisite.
Yea i also really like the Monblanc pens and tbh i wouldnt buy them but my granpa bought it for my mom when she graduated and when i passed the test for the highschool. (Big deal in Switzerland) i got it.
Every one of these videos should have a Casio watch on the budget side… I might be biased though, considering my watch collection is almost exclusively Casio lol.
Are there any floating key chains for the nautical theme? Bright orange or yellow, so you can see them if dropped in the water. If there aren't, I'm making some.
As someone that has a Namiki Nippon fountain pen and a Lamy Safari, I can confidently say that writing with the Lamy is like scratching on paper using a stick compared to the Namiki. Don't get me wrong, I use both for different purposes, but you can for sure tell the different.
I would be very happy if next time you present a budget and contact wallet that allows the storage of coins. Because in general, when you use cash, you often have change, which is usually in coins. I think this will be very useful for the students. Preferably in a black (dark) team.
Great comparison, as always! Apart from the writing gear (simply something I don’t care for all that much), the only thing is argue with is the Seiko, although I love the brand. For the money, these 5s are just not a great deal (anymore), especially compared to some microbrand divers (not to mention the higher end AliExpress brands, albeit without any brand heritage, or own design department 😉).
Love your videos Maurice and I'm a subscriber but this time I have to kindly disagree with your choices. Not all of them but still. Probably its just me and my preferences but everything feels a little bit off and maybe even... forced 🤔. Everything but notebooks and ✒️🖋🖊

That pinstripe in the wallet is just great, love it!
No no no... You should've chosen Spyderco Salt series knives! They are literally made for nautical applications.
I think the seiko is just fine for recreational diving. I wore one during grad school diving nearly every weekend and never had an issue. 100 meters is over 300 feet and recreational divers are not going that deep.
New to your channel. Love the way you present the info. Great job 👏 😊
Amazing, easily the next themed kit I’m saving up for
if you want a slim wallet try the slimfold micro
Can't believe you didn't choose "open sea leather" for the expensive side

Really love your videos! Cheers from Luxembourg, mate! If you ever visit the country, let me know, so I can show you around!😎
"Color Wave" what a doooosh!

should've went with the spyderco salt series

Love these videos 👍
Great vid and brilliant theme
Love your videos man..💪🏻
Very nice >>>>> Thank you
Love the video. I had to go back and check the Seiko price. The $100 on screen seemed too good to be true. Sadly, it is.
Bit of a blooper there, as you know, it's meant to be US$250.
I like the nautical theme but I’m more of a fighter jet guy 🤔
do one with a copper theme
Nice video and carries.

Just out of interest; what is the advantage of leather over cactus leather? The way you explained it, it seems better in every way!
Cool
Where did you get the Seiko for $100? Most of the Sport 5's are around $200-300, the one in the link was right at $300
Rite in the Rain Blue 3-Pack on Amazon costs 30€, not 12$ :)
when the pen cost 4.5 times as much as the luxury watch :')
11:12 hmmmm 205? i thought it was 120.....ya know... like it says in the title.... lol
Me too…
We can trust nobody 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a little confused how the low cost is $120 when the knife alone is $99?
Where are you getting an SRPD for $100?? Send me a link brother lol
can you spidey-flick the victorinox ?
No, not models like this one.
Where tf did you get SRPD for 100?
if the defining trait of your EDC is it's color scheme, you are carrying a lot of dead weight.
I was looking for actual Nautical gear, not nautical colored gear.

Not as Nautical
I love watching all your amazing videos. Use a service like "promosm"!!!
