      Because this isn't what women are taught to deal with.
      They're taught to deal with extremes, not taught to understand that different people have different understandings of what's extreme.
      There's literal sugar daddy type cringe lords out in this world who think a woman *wants* to get seduced and pseudo-raped because "all women want an aggressive man". Likewise there are ACTUAL women out in the world who like men like this. Voicing your concerns shouldn't be embarrassing or awkward, it should be common sense. If I don't want someone to treat me in a way I don't like it's up to ME to tell that person in any way possible that I don't like it.
      This isn't even a defense of people who roofie drinks either. Men that do that belong in prison and they're not even part of the debate. It's like comparing apples to oranges, because drugging someone up with malicious intent isn't comparable to trying to seduce someone and critically failing.
      Women are not taught to deal with red flags. They're taught to let red flags happen and then respond with critical de-escalation attempts when it's too late.

    • @johns1625
      @johns1625 5 месяцев назад

      Leftists don't acknowledge that responsibility and agency are even linked. Victim blaming is a buzz-term, therefore it must be defended even at the cost of consistency and looking like a complete regard. These simple discussions have the same energy as those body-cam videos of drunk drivers being pulled out the window of a crashed car while screaming they did nothing wrong and the cops are abusing them. 😆

    The ending analogy about drunk driving (which was also teased at the beginning) was the turning point for me. I heard Destiny's take in the beginning, listened to the first convo against this same guy, and watched Vaush's vid, and honestly thought Destiny's take was pretty bad.
    Hearing the drunk driving analogy was the moment that made me understand his perspective. You can get into a car accident because someone else was drunk driving, and they are 100% at fault, but still you could have done actions to not get in that car accident. And that, again, doesn't mean you are at fault.
    If a guy stealths a girl, the guy is 100% at fault. Still, the girl could have taken steps to avoid that from happening. That doesn't mean she was at fault, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't also be telling guys not to rape.
    I've also listened to the big panel conversation, and man, people seem to really turn their brains off at this. Everyone, including Destiny, can agree that men are at fault for committing the rape, and we should tell men not to rape. But WHILE AGREEING WITH THAT, Destiny can also add that there are steps women can make that reduce the chances of that happening. And then everyone freaks out and forgets that Destiny also believes the guy was shitty and 100% at fault....
    At the end of the day, everyone wants less rape to happen. If we only ever focus on men, yeah, less rapes will probably happen. But if we focus on men AND women, then even less rapes will happen.... and yeah, even with the specific person's example from Twitter, if she keeps getting stealthed over and over again, then yeah, maybe take a break from having casual sex, or sex in general, or whatever. It's like when people hear that, it seems so fucking horrible, like "no, women HAVE to be able to have casual sex, and she can never be empowered to speak out and reassert her boundaries, and until MEN and only men do ALL of the changing, women have to be fucking rag dolls and accept their fate......"
    Idk, I feel like the driving analogy is such a 1 to 1 comparison, but no one seems to apply the same logic to sex. If you still follow precautions and practice defensive driving, yet you keep getting hit by drunk drivers.... well fuck, maybe you just have to stop driving. Same thing with sex.

    • @mysticflow467
      @mysticflow467 2 года назад +22

      good. glad you can see it now. yes there is a difference between fault and blame and responsibility.
      this is why 70% of people are hard stuck in low elo in games. if you're playing a game like dark souls, whether you win or lose is your responsibility, but you can place the blame on why you lose on the developers or npcs if you want. you can A. say the game or developers are to blame or at fault or responsible for you not being able to beat it because they made it too hard, or B, say it's your own fault/responsibility that you can't beat the game because you lack the skills.
      and with multiplayer games, you can choose to blame everyone else, and not improve yourself, or you can improve everything you do wrong, and understand that some losses are in fact the fault of the person running it down, BUT, in many circumstances, had you played perfect, you would have won. that doesn't mean it's your "fault" you lost that game, but you could have prevented it, but depending on how you view the definition of fault, it could be your "fault" you lost, cause had you played perfect you would have won, but the blame still wouldn't be on you, it'd be on the guy who ran it down.

    It felt like this was going to be a repeat of the first discussion but it actually became productive and interesting once Destiny told him to forget about Twitter and whatever they said in the last discussion and just focus on what they can agree on rn. Even on the prime panel with the exception of spectre and the Gabi chick, katie and I feel like most people understand Destiny's take and agree, but are upset with how he spoke to the victim on Twitter which I think is a valid critic. Destiny did jump the gun and get stuff wrong initially about her watching him take the condom off and not saying anything because she felt it was awkward. I think that's fine since that is how I understood the tweet as well so I get interpreting it that way. But once the victim clarified and people like Hanz (and the other dude he had a discussion with who's not Hanz or Duncan. Idk his name but hopefully you know who I'm talking about) I wish he'd just give a bit more acknowledgment to that. With Hanz he just said "Oh well why are people mad at me then she's the one who fucked up" (idk if that's a direct quote but it was essentially what he was saying from my pov) and then later with the other dude I can't remember he just kept saying that the discourse isn't about that chick and even though she clarified later on the discourse had already taken off. While it's true that the discourse did take off, I don't agree that this isn't about the initial tweets or that chick at all because there hasn't been a single discussion on this topic that didn't make a reference to either of the two. Everyone who disagrees with Destiny has brought that up so it's clear to me that that is the main issue. Just because Destiny doesn't care about being nice on Twitter doesn't really make the criticism less valid.

      Yeah it feels like they're starting with the base assumption "destiny is an asshole" (which is true!) but not really going any further than beyond that.

      Because the argument always boils down to destiny is too mean on twitter, but no one wants to admit that because I guess they think it makes them look weak or sensitive but in reality it's perfectly fine to think destiny is right on the core point, but also too mean on twitter. Its just pointless to debate someone being "too mean" when they've already had that discussion at least a dozen time and shown no willingness to change. So it ends up being destiny knowing it's just about him being too mean and his opponent not wanting to say that so endlessly trying to carve out any kind of win that makes them not look like an idiot or just admit they think destiny is too mean

    I can’t speak to this guys martial arts experience but given that he’s already being selective with his information (the top section of that study) it wouldn’t surprise me if he left this out. I was an assistant martial arts instructor and one of the first things we teach is modes of preservation. In order they are
    Anticipate
    Talk
    Walk
    Defend
    Anticipate is the big one. It’s avoiding the bad situations before they happen. The go to example is not walking down a dark alley at night. Would it be great if everyone could? Yes. But it might not be safe. If you’re drunk the other 3 steps are lessened significantly. The reason defence is the last action is because you could be the strongest fighter in the world and still lose to a lucky punch. It also runs the risk of escalating situations

    Despite the fact that I think he’s fucking lying about that first point; just saying “in some other countries this is normal” does not in any way justify it or make it any less rape-y. Just because in some religious countries it’s totally okay (some might even say a divine right) for a husband to pin down a wife to rape her, that doesn’t all of sudden mean “yeah well the standards in that country are different so it’s fine and not the same as stealthing which is heavily discouraged and taboo, don’t be so racist sweaty”
    What fucking world does this guy live in where the relative taboo-ness of something determines whether or not it’s rape? Or whether or not it’s a violation of consent? As a lovely woman I met recently said. "it takes trust for consent on both ends and even more for non vanilla sex". Even if people never do anything kink related and it is mostly vanilla sexual many of us can learn a lot from kink related safe words since it's never just one of them to stop because maybe we also need to take a step back and reassert our boundaries because sometimes even with the most respectful people those get blurred by passion without the intent of harm. Getting bogged down in the specifics of this case like this Duncan asshole did is only going to cause more harmful experiences and less experiences where people communicate their boundaries clearly and have them respected.

      To be clear, I think the cultural attitudes that support at least some of the sexual norms need to be broken, and that the best way to break them is by violating them openly and proudly. Sadly I've seen in Destiny's recent debates that there are at least a few people who think it's better to submit to authority than fight for themselves. History has shown us repeatedly that if you want to make serious changes you need to be willing to put yourself at risk. We have feminists literally making the argument that they would rather get raped than potentially die by resisting and helping set a new cultural standard of women standing up for themselves. Even if it's your friend. Friends can change, but you have to live with yourself for your whole life.
      The civil rights act would have never come to fruition if black people didn't decide it was worth potentially getting lynched to stand up for their own value as humans. I see no reason why women shouldn't do the same. As Destiny said, these people are making arguments as though the world is utopia instead of reality.
