In this clip, Tommy Davidson talked about his start in comedy doing low-end strip clubs before getting spots in comedy clubs. He recalled meeting Dave Chappelle and Martin Lawrence during that time in DC and eventually linking back up with them in LA - he and Martin lived in the same apartment building. Tommy also detailed sharing a ticket with Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor and how that helped solidify his place in comedy.

Tommy Davidson is such an ALL TIME GREAT of comedy. Each and every time he comes out, stand up or on live shows (Living Colour), he would ad lib or do something to bring the house down. When you see Davidson make other comedians lose their composure on live shows or tv, you know you're seeing something special. So happy to see him getting interviewed and appreciated.

This is a cool story Tommy had to follow Richard Pryor at The Comedy Store and I had to follow Tommy Davidson years later at Flappers Comedy Club.
I was so fired up and excited it was a great show that night. It was such an honor to share the stage with Tommy that night I was the host but there's more details to the story.

I was stationed in DC at Andrews AFB, MD from Sept 1981-May 83 when Tommy, Dave and Martin were in high school and getting their starts in the business. Sinbad and Earthquake (from DC) were in the USAF at the same time that I was serving, until they decided to leave for the comedy circuit.

I have been trying to find Tommy's stand up special he did that i remember seeing on Showtime as a kid. It was called "on the strength in nyc" there's a really bad short copy on youtube but you cant find it online to purchase. It was hilarious. I can only imagine seeing footage of the shows hes talking about at the end when he went on between Eddie and Richard.
