In this clip, legendary comedian Tommy Davidson recounted his early days as a child born in Mississippi and abandoned by his biological mother. He discussed being adopted by a White family after being found in a pile of trash and the struggles with race and identity he went through as a result.

My biracial kids did the same thing. They noticed how the cats and horses on their grandparents farm are different colors even though they are related so they associated that phenomenon with themselves.

To be honest, I knew that wasn't the case an I still felt that way as well. Logically if you go back, there had to be a time in humanity where what he said was true. Mankind just went about it separating by color until it stuck. Kinda like breeding pitbulls for a specific color and, that's what you get. A lack of varariation in dna.

In Living Color brings me back man.......this dude was crazy talented as a comedian. Talking just comics him and Carey were probably the best two.
He was way funnier then Damon Wayans, Jim Carrey and Jamie Fox
Not for me he over did it a bit in the Wanda skits. But I definitely appreciate his work ethic and some of the skits he did but outside the wayons David Allen Grier was probably the best on the show and one of the more slept on cast members of in living color

This dude is hilarious. He's the only stand up comedian I've seen who has jokes for everyone in the crowd. Every race, gender, etc. Love him. He also interacts with people on the streets like he's a regular guy. Love him
God bless the family that had 3 children, and decided to rescue another child, amen to your parents, you are a light to the world Mr Davison. I hope you do Stevie wonder if they ever make a movie about him

Tommy is the most underrated In Living Color alumnus. Dude's sketch comedy is hilarious. Even his guest appearance on MadTV still has me cracking up. Him and David Alan Grier deserve their flowers now!
I can already tell this is going to be a beautiful interview.
I remember being confused as a child by the color terminology and referencing the Crayola box also.
But the way, he interpreted his color situation with the with animal litter colors just shows how very observant he was as a child and is.
If his traumas weren't a factor he most definitely would have succeeded in something other than his comedy.
He's a pretty deep thinker

Fascinating observation when he was a child about animals having offspring that don't look like them, the larger lesson is that the difference in appearance wouldn't minimize the love and affection that the parent had for the child.

I always loved Tommy Davidson. I knew he was different in a special way. Funniest guy and I've never laughed so hard before seeing him perform. I never knew his history but he's achieved so much and from my own opinion....was never really given much of a chance....it shows how strong he is.

That's the beauty of children. Until their parents indoctrinate them with some sort of racial bias, kids just see other kids and people for what they are not what color they are. What we all have to cling on to and teach our own.

Wow this story just proves there is no such thing as “race” it’s a concept, especially when he said he thought humans were like dogs and can have different colors
So we all in the same like dogs just different breeds which is like races i guess lol
I mean if you want to be technical Black people are kind of like that. Two dark skin people can have a light skin baby and two dark skin people can have an albino baby. And so on
The crime statistics prove that race is very real. See rape, robbery and murder statistics. And then guess who's doing the most. Hint. It ain't the Asians Hispanics or whites.
Race definitely exists as a concept lol. He was simply too young to understand what race actually was. Most kids don't realize what race is at 5. They know colors but nothing beyond that.
