what's going on with the eyes man. Parts of this remaster look much better. But some just don't do it for me.. The faces in the original just look better.
Joe Bailey Yes I agree, in the original the voice actors tried their best to match the lip sync and in the hd remake they took the lip sync out completely.
TheUberduberdoo yeah. I went ahead and bought it anyway. Because I love the game. But playing it again, I think they should have implemented something that Ki No Kuni did.. and put it English subtitles. Because Tidus' voice annoys the shit out of me. The only decent voice actor is Wakka .. and that's because it's Bender.

Chrisleen Eungel Yes his eyes look absolutely ridiculous haha. In the first FMV where he stands there, and looks out over the Zanarkand ruins. They move so strangely. It could and should have been done much better. Other than the face's. I think everything else looks a lot better. Really enjoying it.

6 years late but the worst part is noticing how Game Spot deliberately put the expressive parts of character faces in the old footage to hide how bland and emotionless they are in the remaster.
So true.. they totally ruined their faces. Such a shame cause all the rest looks cool!

Weird, I know, but there's something about the lower res/blurriness of the OG game that I actually really like. I mean, the models and textures were intended to be viewed at that resolution (sans FMV's), so it actually works in it's favor for the most part. HD is nice, but at times is an eyesore as the higher resolution exemplifies how low-poly the environments and character models are. The combat effects/particles look much nicer in HD though, that's for sure.
Their faces look wrong in HD.
See, they upped the quality but not the number of polygons used. When the original PS2 version was Standard Def and blurry, it worked as a dithering effect and made the polygons look more rounded. Here it's far more cartoonish.
I don't know what they did to their eyes, but they're lifeless.

Graphically they're superior; they've got better, HD textures. But for some reason, they look weird and lifeless now. Maybe because they're too clear and sharp and they look more cartoony as a result.
Power to you if you don't feel like that when you see it, it'll look better for you.
Before, it looked like the characters were looking at each other and reacting to things with their eyes more, but in the HD remake they really look off and don't convey the same thing to me. I can't put my finger on why.
Yea I can understand that. It might be just the fact that your use to the normal look and not the HD version.
Quite possibly. I'm also thinking it might be because of the drop in quality of the original, your brain fills in the blanks and MAKES the eyes more real. If you're given all the detail, you can't imagine the emotion in them.

I remember playing FFX back in 2001 and just being so amazed at how great the visuals were, so much more beautiful than anything I had ever seen up to that point. I got HD Remastered, and I do love it, but looking at the visuals side by side it doesnt seem like one came thirteen years after the other.
Thats just because its a remaster, and not a remake. Its still the same PS2 game, just polished a little. A remake would be awesome though if they ever do it.

I agree, I don't like Tidus' new look. It's not the original Tidus look I grew to love. Tidus looks more "pudgey" now.

TIdus' cheeks look "chubby" in a way, and yeah his eyes changed shape, not just color. His hair looks more like a Ken doll. Honestly the original looks more realistic. Maybe less crisp, but better overall
I'm glad to see people agree on this. His new eyes look terribly cartoonish and he looks less asian and less realistic. Worse is that it feels like they only did it so it would resemble Kingdom Hearts more : (
Even after not playing the game for about 10 years , I immediately noticed Tidus' eyes were different. They're so blue now!
they're not just bluer- it looks like he totally had an eyetransplant. Its not his eyes, I don't reqognize my Tidus in there.
You know what's weird though? They changed the eye colour here. but I dont think they did in the pre rendered cinematics
Tbh I like his face better in the original version. He looked a lot more realistic and his voice matched better.

Ugh. I was disappointed with the characters faces, minus Wakka and Lulu...those were the only two that I liked in the remake. Tidus and Yuna looked fugly as fuck. Everything else though...amazing.

Completely agree. And the animation of the remake looks awful to me. Too stiff? Not very expressive. And some bad lip syncing.
Well good thing I never played the original :D Thus such things dont really bother me, but I do understand what you mean, still I dont think they look too much different from their original looks.
Balnazzardi Then i am very sorry for you. Cause between orginal faces and those stiff liveless animations on the remaster are worlds, universes. Its like they took all the feelings/emotiones from them. Play the orginal ffx on pcsx2 Emulator and you will see the difference ;)
The characters eyes... I dont know if I like their eyes... They used to have a sort of real feeling to them. Now theyre kinda cartoony.

I agree. It's kind of what turned me off from buying it. They don't have the emotion they used to. Sure it might look nicer on the surface, but it's like they've taken what really matters and covered it all up. Part of what made this game so amazing in the first place was the fact that the characters had expressions, so there was a lot of work put into that aspect. But now I feel as though a lot of that as been plastered over in attempts to update for more profits. Unless they're going to remake it entirely, I think it would have been better off left alone.
S. Kay Lanphear I have to agree...When I someone doing a LP of this and they were in the desert when Wakka gave that glare when Rikku was explaining where the were...It looked like he was doing the damn duck face...WTH! It's not funny like Wakka's expression in the original, it's just plain scary!
I realise what you're getting at, they seem a bit lifeless. BUT I'm hoping I can get past that and re-enjoy one of my fav games of all time :)

It's less of a strain on the eyes now, but yeah, he looks less realistic when the unrealistic graphics are enhanced. I always felt like I was looking through un-prescribed glasses when looking at the old Tidus. Now he looks like he is made of glass. Pick your poison, I guess. I prefer the old graphics, it looks more dream-like. The scenery is good though.
Facial expressions are better in the PS2 version (more realistic look). Remake version looks stiff.
It's hard to remaster a game with HD graphics because it'll still carry problems from the original over with it. I think the problem with the faces that everyone is pointing out is due to the fact that even an HD coat of paint can't fix faces that were lifeless to begin with. We just didn't notice they were lifeless because they were blurry. Also, Tidus is their character not ours. I think that with the better tech they were able to make him look like what THEY wanted him to look like. Also is it really such a big deal? I love the original game, and I think the HD remaster is just fine. It's still only a remaster sure, it can't be perfect, but it serves it's purpose.

+TheGooseinator the reason is acually because of your nostalgia and the "blur" that is over everything compared to the HD. Since all the CGI was already made and just replaced with the higher res
the res is better now, but the game is SquareEnixs version that completely ruined X... its basically the greatest hits version that SquareEnix made shortly after the merger, the difficulty was increased which is nice, but the menus where gutted, the 3D models were taken out and the multicolor was turned to a monocromatic blue grey scale. the greatest hits version also had many bugs compaired to Squaresofts original

I've run this on a PS2 emulator in native 1080p/60FPS and it looks like the HD version.
i doubt you got high resolution textures.

Tidus looks exactly like Meg Ryan with the HD graphics now.
The game-play and ingame cutscenes look infinity better, but the FMVs look exactly the same. Shame. that is the part you would want to see at the highest quality possible.
Besides inside the blitzball arena, I personally could tell a difference in remastered FMV's

A lot of people expressed interest or disinterest in the graphics being HD and sharper now, and a few mentioned the extra content...But seems everyone forgot the music was rearranged, too. Even if you played and beat the original, this one is worth playing through again because it gives you this very eerie but warming feeling of being the same familiar game you remember from your childhood, yet a completely new one somehow both at the same time. And for anyone who missed playing FFX, it's really a treat.

The eyes have too much color/contrast in HD. They also made Yuna's lips a bit narrower in the remaster. However, I don't see this as a downgrade. It's just a matter of opinion which version of Yuna you prefer.
I've never played the original version but bought the one on PS4. Went back and took a look at this and am blown away. It's been 17 years since the original and the original version still has amazing looking faces even for 2018. Sure, dated. But very realistic looking. I have no idea why they ever thought the HD remake needed to change this, the faces look terrible in comparision.
Wish they would bring the HD version out for the PC like they have with XIII, would love it. FFX is my favourite FF game.
The people who did Yuna and Tidus's face re-modeling and animation in the remastered version need to be fired ASAP.
I just bought mine for the Vita, and I must say there is definitely a huge increase in the graphics compaired to the original. I just cant believe how did Square Enix fit all of this data on a handheld device, the Vita version looks amazing when you see upclose. Good job SquareEnix!!!!!

Man what a gorgeous game. Both HD and not. In some ways the new is better, in other ways not so much. But no amount of graphical shenanigans can disguise or change the fact this is one of the best video games of all-time. Perhaps the greatest story ever told in a game and an epic experience filled with laughter, tears, and everything in between.
They made Yuna look less androgynous and the animation isn't nearly as stiff or twitchy. The textures look much more defined, the models and cleaner, and generally this is just much more pleasant to look at.
However, as a fan of Final Fantasy I am legally obligated to hate this because it is technically new, and new = bad in this fanbase, no matter how good the new thing is. Make the new thing go away Mommy, I don't like new.
I am still going to pick the PS2 version of the game. Titus looks a whole lot better.

Forget this about FF10 or FF7 what about a Chrono Trigger remake or a Secret of Mana remake I would love to play those games all over again
Maybe not Secret of Mana, but I would love to play an HD remake of Chrono Trigger, I love Chrono Trigger. Although I doubt they will bring it to PS3, they have a Nintendo DS remake of it already though.

+? !?? The environments were constructed for its time. Now remastered... Yeah, doesn't look all that great, despite the better models, textures, etc. The game was just fine. Why'd they remaster just one generation later? Money, I guess?
there we 2 versions of the original X...
the original that SquareSoft made had a better more vibrantly colored menu and a 3D model item system, every weapon and every armour had a 3D render next to the item menu... in the later version the so called greatest hits version that SquareEnix ruined is the one we got remastered in HD unfortunatly, with its monocrome blue grey menu, and lack of 3D models.....

You noticed that too. It's weird the characters at times look lifeless. An example that comes to mind is when yuna thanks cid and he's crying, in that scene her eyes are freaky.
I never noticed Yuna had 2 dif. eye colors until I played the HD version...
I knew, but it wasn't as obvious. I do think they made the characters eyes too bright. They look more cartoony and it doesn't fit.

Why did they show a pre-rendered cutscene?
Perhaps to show that the increased resolution benefits the pre-rendered cutscenes as well as what is produced by the in-game engine?

I'm not sure that they're really much larger so much as you can see the "separation" now. Because everything was sort of muddled before you couldn't tell they were animated separately from the body they were in, now it's much clearer and you can see the lines. This actually happened in the RE4 HD remake for the PC as well. Some things from the PS2 and older simply weren't ever meant to be seen with super visual clarity, and even with an HD remake look a bit odd as a result.

Final fantasy 10 is everything that I love about final fantasy. The story is sooo good, the gameplay, character designs, the variety of options and relatable characters.

Of course it would require a little effort. So would a lot of the games they make today but guess what? It will never happen. Not in a million year. Square and Capcom are both going to die out pretty quickly if they don't start putting more effort into there games. This one in particular could have been a homerun if they just put in some god damn effort.
I know exactly what it takes. They took an older game and rereleased it just to shut up the fans. They didn't even put a lot of effort into it. Creating a game from scratch is one thing and rereleasing a game is another. Instead of coming out with the next Final Fantasy which probably won't sell for crap since they doomed that already. Why don't they remake one of there older games? Because people are asking for it. They are taking the big company approach to making there games now and it's pissing me off. They need to learn that there customers know best. They don't know better then the gamers buying there games.
Joe Smith Except Legend of Dragoon has nothing to do with Square. Second this is only Square's second remastering. Third Square has said that they're not remaking 7 till a Final Fantasy beats it. Oh, and if you want to see a shitty re-release look at Fable Ani, it looks no better, and crashes a lot.

X is honestly better. The faces are more expressive and the cinematic scenes are actually sharper in the original. HD seems to have washed them out!

All of the HD looks sharper to me.
I can tell you didnt play both X and X HD because you wouldn't say that. On Ps2 they looked to have always the same expression (mainly yuna). But in the HD REMASTER even a soft smile or frown you can tell on their faces. Its almost perfect

Only fault in the game is that you don't play much in Zanarkand at the beginning of the game. It would had been a good tutorial and make it more feeling about Tidus loosing his friends etc...

Not to be rude but if X was the first, then it's highly unlikely you played the older games, meaning 1 to 9. If that's the case you really have no basis to say it's better than anything, and it really isn't anyway. II, VI, and VII can easily be counted among the best JRPGs of all time. X is good, but not -that- good.

Keyroye Well in that case, you can like what you want :P. A lot of people love X, and while I do like it it was never my favorite. I'm really glad you played the others though, the older games are pretty epic. Back when graphics were kinda horrible, the game devs had to focus on gameplay and story to make their mark. I think a lot of new games have lost that, they put way too much emphasis on how things look, how pretty it all is, and don't pay as much attention to the actual game itself.
Sean C i agreed the story they but in the game is lost, i would prefer bad graphics with a good story, like Suikoden 2 that is a ps1 game and still to this day i think its awesome,
Keyroye Graphics are impressive, I'll give the HD remake that, but they destroyed some of my favorite songs on the game! D:

I'm glad they didn't change the FMV scenes noticeably, if at all. FFX seems to be the only game with human looking character designs, which is one of the things I really like about it. Every FF game after this looks like 3D anime.
The HD was good, but I like the normal FFX Much better!
The biggest improvement I see is the sword at 0:03- 0:05
Of course it almost looks the same, only the amount of pixels have been improved, not the actual graphics.
Apparently some things were spruced up. I noticed very subtle changes, but still changes were made.
ernjdasdd Yeah, like the feather on Riku's outfit. You can tell it's a feather now because of the plumage, not because of the pre-rendered cut scene. (I thought it was a pice of cloth for the longest time until just before Bevelle)

This remaster obviously improved on a lot of things, but the softer edges and lines and everything on the faces made them so much more believable and expressive. Remaster makes it looks like a pretty plastic doll. But, hey, those backgrounds are pretty tight.

The Facial expression where definitively better in the orginal but... Play the original on an HD TV and it look like shit so i prefer ma PS Vita version :P

FFX/X-2 HD Remastered looks better in EVERY WAY. The characters look just great, the whole game looks infinitely better. The PS2 version has realistic faces, but realism just doesn't suit Final Fantasy. I prefer the colored eyes and more accurate hair. Tidus looks just like on his artworks and so does the rest. Honestly, I understand hate on some remakes for making things worse than the original, but this is just gold.
I guess people just don't want to spend money and cling on what they already have.

Why do companies never do HD remakes in a proper fashion, when I think about the word "remake", slapping HD texture's on everything and calling it a day, is NOT what comes to mind, certainly it looks better, yes, but it does not look that much better. I mean they could've updated everything to have graphics similar to FFXIII-3 (although I'm not a fan of the 13 series, the graphics are still a whole lot better), not to mention the upcoming 15. This kind of Remastering, is in my opinion insufficient. Also a remake should have extra content in it. Why? Because since they're remaking everything, they don't actually have to put work into making new stuff, coming up with ideas and all that takes a fair amount of development time, in this kind of HD remake, all they have to do (which is also a fair amount, but not to the level of charging the same cost as a new game) is remake all the existing textures, to be honest, when I buy a remake, I'd prefer that it is more than just a HD cleaning, I'd prefer for it to be one where all graphics are updated to modern standards, and since the game is a remake, I'd prefer if extra thought went into it, for example ideas which might have been scrapped earlier on in development, or add more music, bosses etc. Basically I just think this amount of work is insufficient considering the cost of the game.

I know, I just don't think a remaster justifies the cost being literally identical, to the cost it had at release many years ago, if they want to remaster it, it should at least cost thereafter.
If they worked on making it more than it was, then maybe the cost is justifiable, as it stands, I don't think it is.
op4000exe Ya I know. The only people who seem to do a proper remake is 343 industries when they remade Halo 1, and Halo 2. They added more content, a whole graphic overhall, and the ability to switch to the older graphics instantly with the press of a button. Completely remastered soundtrack, and sound effects. Also on the Halo 2 remake, they re did all of the cutscenes in cgi with motion capture. Now that's how you remake a game.

The remaster looks so lifeless.. und Tidus isn't that cute sunnyboy anymore. His skin is lighter, his eyes are.. creepy und everyone is so emotionless..
And why are so many people saying that they never noticed that Yuna has 2 different eye colors? I mean, com'on. You can see that clearly in the wedding scene (probably the best scene to see her eyes) and.. it's just logical. She's an half Al-Bhed and what do we know? Right. All Al-Bhed have green eyes. So yeah..
I miss Tidus' and Yuna's old faces. They looked more expressive and natural, while the remaster ones looks too plastic.
...I can see the differences, but they're not as big as I imagined, I'll stick with the original thank you ^^

The difference between a square and a hand is a mile of difference (FFVII compared to modern) but the difference between a hand, and a hand that has had contrast and ani-aliasing increased...can be preformed easily by an emulator.
There's really no point to remodeling FFX, because hilariously enough, a decent enough computer and an emulator can do an even better version lmao.

6 already has a remake, although it's on Android/IOS, but it's pretty good anyway. The first 6 games all are available, although not all the remakes are the same. The remakes of IV (which we saw released as II) and V are done in the style of the DS versions, meaning 3d, etc...
Yes I & II have remakes = dawn of souls on for ds , 5&6 are on gba aswell as in remake i meant like something on ps3. and no nothing is impossible. if you guys havnt played dawn of souls for ds (yes which can be played on 3ds w/ backword compadibility) play it. 5 & 6 were on gba before that ff on android is meh, IV on 3ds was eh w/e couldnt dupe at all i didnt like they did that. i know ill get trolled for saying i meant remake for like ps3 of older ff games. "oh its impossible". and for iv or II whichever you want to put it as i liked final fantasy chronicles w/ chrono trigger as 2nd disc that was my favorite remake of it but thats just me.

Square Enix lost the source code , many things had to be reworked in a short period of time, also the character expression made use of custom microcode that specifically works only for the PS2 co-processors

@@OptimistPrime1 Yeah, Kingdom Hearts also had to be reversed engineered due to lost the original assets in order to Remake the game, its incredible how much millions they put to produce these games and lack the logistics to preserve these assets

Best option in my opinion, all they had to do was up the resolution for the HD remake - don't know why they decided to alter Tidus' face to look slightly creepy.

The HD Remaster is only good for having several games in one disc and it being playable on a big screen. But then again you can also just play it on an emulator too.

All these people do is complain. I mean... You shouldn't be blind by your nostalgia. I have a FFX game on ps2 with 400+ hours and i played this game A LOT. I bought recently the HD REMAKE and at the beginning it was weird, but now, after 10 hours playing, the fact is that i look to the ps2 version and it looks awful. Even the OST is much better. (On RUclips the OST is awful but in the game its amazing with a surround audio)
can you play the ps2 version on the ps5 or do they only have the hd one, the softer old style is so much prettier the hd looks plasticy
original is better. it fits better with environment. the faces in the remaster are too plastic looking and their eyes look akward. hd remaster is bad imo. only really improving on battle effects and thats really it
