I think you did a good job explaining the divide when it comes to new and old BATB. When the contest started, they pool’d together some of the best street skaters and you got to see how good they were at flatground. And we got to see which pros were more consistent than others. But they were all still street skaters. Due to the influence of BATB, kids grew up only wanting to compete in games of SKATE. Forgoing the street skating route. And focused more on highly technical tricks to win games. This has diminished BATB in 2 major ways. 1.) the contest is no longer wall to Wall Street skaters. You have a lot of flatground only skaters like Griffin, Cepeda, Peterson and Giger 2.) the biggest knock is the quality of the games. They are all much shorter. When watching BATB, everybody is hoping for the same thing. What makes a battle good is, a high amount of tricks, two seemingly evenly matched skaters, running out of basic tricks and having to reach deep in your pocket, and the other skater landing mentioned deep pocket tricks. The largest cheers you’ll hear during a BATB match are when a skater lands a trick nobody thought they would. Think of P-Rods fakie 540 flip, or Mike Mo’s switch double tre. But unless a skater purposefully trained the weeks leading up, they’re not gonna have a chance against a double hardflip, or dolphin flip

I somewhat agree with you but you’re only remembering all the good battles from previous years. There were LOTS of crappy ones even when it was just street skating pros competing. It’s easy to look back over the past 12 seasons and handpick the best battles from memory. Unfortunately as good as they are getting in contests & in the street I don’t think we’ll ever see their flatground progress at the same level because they don’t have the power in their legs to do some of the flatground tricks. Maybe its just me these days, but I never understand doing a trick in a game of skate thats NOT meant to get your opponent a letter. Sure if you need to warm up to dig into your greater arsenal, thats fine. But I think it's just as insulting to not bring the brunt of your skill to the table in honor of "sportmanship". Like if I was batting against a pitcher who can throw 100 mph, and he throws a 70 mph fastball down the middle, I would be a bit insulted. Give me the best you got. I want to beat everything you have, not just what's easy.
Good video but was hoping for your impressions on the Anderson/Holt match. Andy is lethal on offense because of his bag of unusual tricks. Apparently he can't skate switch well or heelflip.. or was it nerves.. or did he not care too much at the end of the day? Andy does seem like the type of person who just wants to learn tricks he finds interesting.. which does not work well for BATB where you need to have the basics down in both stances. I haven't watched all Andy's skate matches on other channels (non-Berrics), but usually he does better than that? Anyone? Thanks in advance.
I think that Andy invited some crowd associated with him plus his girlfriend and that apparently pressured him, hence the loud cheers for Andy when he missed. He was riding ridiculously slow and missed a lot, which to me seemed like a clear sign of being nervous and full of self-doubt. Overall that match was full of an Office level cringe.
jamie is an incredible skater!! love his skateboarding ability and tricks he can do, but the dude use to go around harassing and slandering other skaters for no reason, Im honestly surprised he got where he is today, but also stoked for the guy
Dumb football data: 1. A reference to the defense of Mike Ditka’s ‘85 Bears is a bit nonsensical. While Ditka was technically the head coach that year, (a) he’s not famously a great head coach, and (b) his entire background was in Offense and he was the de facto offensive coordinator. The ‘85 Bears legendary defense with which the team’s success is primarily credited was coordinated by the great Buddy Ryan, the only non-HeadCoach coordinator to ever get carried off the Superbowl Field on his players’ shoulders. Ditka had nothing to do with the ‘85 Bears defense, and was often an annoyance to them. There’s a great 30-for-30 episode on the ‘85 Bears. 2. The old saying is “defense wins Championships”, not “defense wins games”. Anything and everything including crazy flukes can win a single random game (and they’ve always kept it that way to maximize engagement) but the belief in the oldschool pre-2000s league (back when, due to rules, it was more true) was that defense wins Championships, meaning it would make the biggest difference across the Many games of the season. This is of course less true these days, in the modern era of adoption (for several reasons) of offense-friendly rules. Still, good on you for trying to work in sportsball analogies from outside skateboarding! ❤
Dude thanks for the history lesson but if he would have said Buddy Ryan's 85 Bears you and maybe three other people watching would have got it. While Ditka at least is known to more than football fans he was just comparing great defense to ultimately win like you say makes perfect sense

If you want to watch every variation of heelflip and kickflip from every stance in every match then tell it to Berra and not hating on skaters who just do what they do. But I have a feeling they wanted it to spice it up a bit as the views went downhill.
When does the Tyler Peterson video part drop?
In the UK we call it rock, paper, scissors
Lets dream with a fun final between Cole and Griffin, everybody wins
Didn't Shane O'Neill switch fs 540 bigspinned in a video part?
How come Peterson has no video parts? The kid has insane ledge and rail abilities and would be cool if he filmed some street footy
Using a term like "circus trick" is so disrespectful and goes against the whole positive vibe that has carried skateboarding since the beginning.
I would be inclined to agree outside the highly structured setting of a game of SKATE. there's an etiquette. playing a game of skate at the park against a kid whos desperate to show you his varial double flip isn't fun at all
@@elliottwoods5636But it is fun because in the context o Berrics we expected the pro skaters to pro at doing fucking tricks. Aaron Kyro can land a fucking nightmare flip, common. Stop being upset when a flatground competition have skaters doing advanced flatground tricks
This cat has my vote for de winner
modern day Rodney Mullen? Rodney was essentially a freestyle skater. Jamie's flatground is insane, but he can't even rail flip
I wonder how many pros are watching these videos to prep for their upcoming rounds?
Whoever runs this channel is a weirdo. But I love it
1. I wish you would refer to semifinals as semifinals instead of “finals night” because I spent way too long trying to figure out if I was reading the brackets wrong.
2. There are absolutely circus tricks and they look like dog shit.
Tyler Peterson is like the Gabe Cruz of the Berrics channel if Gab put as much effort into his skatebording as he did with his Basketball
remember when we were all pissed about Berra's Build More part? now we're watching a dude who cant skate switch like its something to do.
every day we stray farther from God's white light.
4:00 Thanks for addressing this
why did you have to put the image of tyler clapping jamie and luans cheecks in my head?!!!?!
LETS GO NICK
Do you have a public view of your data you could share? I love spreadsheets
jamie is an incredible skater!! love his skateboarding ability and tricks he can do, but the dude use to go around harassing and slandering other skaters for no reason, Im honestly surprised he got where he is today, but also stoked for the guy
Proper 360s.
Rooting for Jamie!
@7:56 These are Varials, not Forward Flips. Think about it..
Dumb football data:
Always appreciate your thoughtful comments sir
Dude thanks for the history lesson but if he would have said Buddy Ryan's 85 Bears you and maybe three other people watching would have got it. While Ditka at least is known to more than football fans he was just comparing great defense to ultimately win like you say makes perfect sense
@@ChronicSkater If nobody knows what it means, and everyone knows it’s football either way, than it doesn’t matter either way, except to 3 people plus maybe you mad about it, so chill. the man’s observably interested in the topic, is a grown adult, and doesn’t need fanbois white knighting for him. if you don’t like exchange of information between nerds, this may not be the place for you.
p.s. you’re welcome! any time :)
@@dumbdata34 back atcha. thanks for the steady supply of perspective and analysis (and humor) about cool stuff
Can someone tell me who the FUCK did the Hardflip foot cross landing?!
Youness Amrani
Many thanks. Never seen that before.@@dumbdata34
What the F does rock, paper, scissors have to do with skateboard careers? I don't even know what I'm watching here.
I really hope Tyler can beat Jamie if they play again. Jamie is just the most cringe skater to ever exist. Even more so than cariuma boys which is saying something. Doesn't matter though Nick's taking it home BABY
While watching these I have this fear that, not only am I wasting time and procrastinating on my school work, but there may be some basic fundamental error, right back at the beginning of this BATB series that renders all subsequent analysis erroneous and misleading, meaning I'm not even learning the occasional random fact or statistic I might happen to remember.
waiting for a 'Andy Anderson CRINGE compilation' analyses.
why do i like that
What you call circus tricks I call gnarly
I’m not sure why “technically, Rock is Tyler’s favorite choice of hand movement…” sounded dirty 😅
Whyed your change the video name 💀💀
Go T
love it
This guy needs to touch grass
This guy needs to smoke grass
Did you not see Jamie's Griffin's Slainte street part? Yeah, he's doing all this in the street too
This guy is such a non-person. Who tf is a Tyler Peterson fan?
useless but entertaining
I can’t stand the dumb tricks some skaters pull out, double flips and body varials and shit. If a skater pulls these super early in a game it’s more just saying they haven’t got a hot bag of tricks they just wanna be dirty and pull out shit no one cares about.
Tyler and Jamie Griffin will meet in the finals and Griffin win cheating on 360 l. This is so predictable
How are the Elo scores calculated?
Watch his previous vids he explains it pretty well in the most recent ones before this
@@a.r.4822 Any idea which ones exactly?
Increasingly sad boomer skate takes from the only decent skate stats channel on the platform, le sigh.
Jamie should roll faster on defense
batb went from a fun contest between our favorite skaters to who has the time and cares enough to learn the most lame ass tricks that no one else cares to learn
literally this is useless information XD
Jamie hasnt faced true consistency yet with the straight 16's, bigflips/heels etc. Zachs strategy of shuvs was dumb
