Could Poitras replace Debrusk?

  • Training Camp has opened for the Boston Bruins, and coach Jim Montgomery has already had us take a second look at the line combinations. All summer, we thought that Fabian Lysell would be a second-line winger, but maybe, just maybe, that spot will go to Matthew Poitras.
Johnny Beecher is impressing people at camp, along with Charlie Coyle. The Boston Bruins signed Kasmir Kaskisuo to a PTO to fill in for Jeremy Swayman's absence.

Good insights. I’ve been of the mind all along that we can more or less replace his production (at least on paper) from within, and that the addition of Lindholm was more important than resigning Debrusk. I’m looking at the same guys mostly Poitras, Lysell (Maybe Merk too) as well as Frederic and Brazeau to a lesser extent taking a step forward. I think overall there’s some real opportunity for growth offensively there and it’s not worth worrying too much about immediately “replacing” Debrusk. I don’t agree with anyone saying the forward core is in a worse position than before. I think if anything it is more complete and there is opportunity for growth, they are basically one top six winger away from having an incredibly complete team imo

Good stuff. Nice to hear about hockey.
Three consistent themes of this Bruins team
Nothing is it given - everyone has to compete for their position.
    We like Swiss army knives!

That's a compliment to Matt by moving him around.

Not a big Monty fan. For me, he shuffles lines and roles way too much. Especially for the youngest guys, it seems like a defined role would reduce their thinking and let their natural ability thrive.

@@bruinsdiehardssame sentiment here... But it's very difficult to argue with his success so far.
We ask players to take it to the next level? And we believe they can.
I will extend that to the coach- Monty needs to take his career to the next level
It was clear last season that Monty was not making the ultimate decision over what goalie tended net - that seemed to be left up to goalie Bob and I'm thinking that's not going to be the case this season.
Last playoffs he said the decision over goalies was "by committee"
It's Monty's turn to take it to the next step.
      And I believe he can...
He has a similar experience as Tom Johnson coming in after Harry sinden was bumped up to GM in 1970-71
New coach Tom Johnson came in and set up new franchise record for most winning regular season... Went down first round in playoffs to none other than Habs 😠
Yet The following season they won the cup.
Was hoping Monty would follow the exact same path but he needs an extra year - took him a while to get his Terry O'Reilly!

    • @TheFoolintherainn
      @TheFoolintherainn 6 дней назад +2

Intellectually and logically I think he'll sign.
But I'm with you on that gut... Feels like the torey Krug negotiation. Tori was undrafted, like Jeremy they put a lot into him and Jeremy has the same agent as Tory!
the numbers were not that far apart when we lost him. Tory did not get a lot more going to St Louis than he would've gotten in Boston.
St Louis knows they overpaid him and cannot dump his contract unless they eat part of it. Because I think Monty would have liked to bring him over from St Louis when he came. He spoke of working with torey in St Louis.
And I know pasta would like to spin with him on the ice again
So I think a big chunk of this negotiation is actually Jacob & Sweeney versus Lewis Gross.
They're setting the standard for the rest of the league on how to deal with Lewis gross! Jeremy just happens to be standing there!
( not saying who's right and wrong)
