I honestly REALLY hate how common death threats are. Whether people have trouble separating fact from fiction, fantasy from reality, and just para-social BS.
People who have not been exposed to the reality of death don't see it as a serious issue. That's at least what I think of US and other western countries. As we continue to change and evolve over time, things change. Societal and cultural norms, production processes, exposure to death and dying in the home (if you have grandparents or even parents living with you or you with them), and of course food preparation. The idea of death is hidden behind polite euphemisms. But that's already too long of a comment.
It's such an easy thing to say, the ultimate vent for frustrations. But now the recipient legitimately has to consider, that what if there's an actual chance the threat was serious, and the recipient no longer feels safe at home, the one place every person should have to feel safe at? These edgy kids never get that.
It is not common at all. There are thousands over thousands of people interacting and you only get very few actual threats (No, a "kys" does not count as a threat!). The only reason it seems so common to many people now is, that they are exposed to way more interactions than people were before the internet.

I feel like that's not a really good comparision since agencies varies greatly from one another. He mention 100% merch taken but in Hololive from what we know is about 50% and negotiable depending on how involved the talents themself are in the merch. As for pure earnings, Indie likely would earn more at 1/10 of the subscribers compared to agency Vtubers but if you join an agency, it's for more than just the income, you are getting the support of the agency itself and the connections they have. And a part of the money the agency takes would go back to investing in you through 3D lives, concerts, models, protecting you from trolls, etc... And if you have extra income, you can spend them through the agency for content (e.g Hololive's Marine with her highly animated MVs, and she does that a lot which means her earnings is really high) Most indies would struggle to achieve the level of content an agency can help you do unless you are really popular like Ui-mama.

yea it's getting really common, since people are getting desperate for attention, they turn their attention to vtubers, it's just sad how it can affect the vtubers themselves To think some even resort to stalking, that's scary 😢
nice insight video . Kind of understand why vtubers quit especially they're being pressured by the Agency to make songs and pushing to be Idols . Working 12-24 hours a day is mentally stressing for content creators
A company that takes 100% of your merch earnings? It's obvious what company it was but still... Actually it doesn't happen only to the girls but to some of the guys as well. This happens only on the the EN branch only I heard.
One thing that I always heard from independent Vtuber is that their circle of friends is really small, so they often say something along the lines of "IDK what I would do if I ever quit Vtubing, without connection, I might just come back to my parent house" especially they who start at young age, even big Vtuber, and those in agency wonder about this, they feel like they lose the change of "being normal" and get in a relationship with someone, so if there's another one, I really wanted you to collab with a bunch of indies to do talks like this, between their Vtubing career and their private life, how did they balance it? it's such a sensitive question, so I understand if it's not included anyway~
interesting video, nice share. i used to follow various Vtubers, and eventually felt it was too much content. not enough time for everything in life. so i decided to move on from them. though i do like the entertainment they bring. i don't think most people even think about how hard it is to stream frequently and keep talking for hours hours. trying to keep people viewing or support the streamer for that matter. its much more difficult than the average entry level job. so i respect them for the effort they give.
I've switched all my free time, which is like 2 to 4 hours per day, to japanese immersion for the past 3+ months after trying for 4 years now to do so with limited success, it's been hard finding youtube content I enjoy, and watching this video and understanding more or less everything that's said is a little surreal. I remember watching sora some years ago and understanding next to nothing whenever he'd speak Japanese. Anyways, すげえな、日本語を上手ですね~。まるでネイチブだ!ペラペラだね~。
that 'I wanna punch someone' Rin is so real😄 She can hurt me😆 but yeah, streaming for 24 hours straight. This girl should take more care of own health. I'm worried. Also why would anyone threaten her? And she got so scared for real! Poor soul. I also want to cry😢
@@hoaha6343 Yeah, it's not like McDonalds needs to share any merch revenue with the people playing Ronald McDonald. At the end of the day, they made and own all rights to the model. They could fire the person behind it and put another person in as the new "actor" for the model. With that said, it is scummy as hell.
Pretty much all of these downsides apply to streamers or idols in general to varying degrees although I think idols seem to get the worst of this sort of exploitative and abusive behavior, with vtubers sitting somewhere between them and vanilla streamers. There is however one advantage vtubers have over both idols and vanilla streamers which is they can separate their streamer persona from their real life identity. Idols and vanilla streamers can't do this since their faces are there for everyone to see along with a lot more personal information. For example, that poor Dragonlord guy can't even go outside anymore without risking being attacked.
It probably depends on the agency. If their vtubers get a regular salary for example, or their agency provides corporate sponsorships, that would significantly boost the vtuber's earnings. Some corpo vtubers can fund animation projects or expensive beds so they're clearly making bank.
Not only restrained to vtubers or youtubers but in general. Especially when profits are made from lop-sided ratio that doesn't require definitive needs, rather subjective and interpersonal, these characteristics are bound to be shown.
まじか. ... I also am simp in the past of vtuber... Got out of rabbit hole and now I'm going back as for the reason?.. (using them as my learning material on learning Japanese it's win win situation for me the vtubers that can caught my attention to watch it).
I have that friend who used to vtubing using avatar from free apps, but when we play games together while streaming, we often call him with irl names, he is already quit tho. And recently another one of my friends becoming babiniku vtuber, we sometimes play games while he streaming recently.
On the subject of vtuber contracts; there's a lawyer here on youtube who's reviewed a lot of agency contracts and has even shared a few of them on youtube (specifically when the NDA wasnt signed or the contract itself was unenforceable). Yes, the contract terms can get INSANE, and not just because of the revenue share. The difficult part though is that its very difficult to get a Japanese lawyer to comment on such practices because the defamation laws are so broad, so he had to consult with people off the record to find out if certain practices broke Japanese law.

thank you sora and rin
yea it's getting really common, since people are getting desperate for attention, they turn their attention to vtubers, it's just sad how it can affect the vtubers themselves
To think some even resort to stalking, that's scary 😢
THIS MAN, he does free promo for rin whenever he can, dude is a dedicated #1 fan
Thank you for reminding me why I fizzled out of VTubers later this year
Thank you for the video. I'm still not sure what, or why, Vtubers are, but this video was entertaining and provided some insight.
It's been a long time since I watched Sora videos. I remember when he only had around 300k subscribers or so.
Never forget that behind that smiling avatar is a real person with real feelings.
This was a really good interview about vtubers.
nice insight video .
KakushakuRin..... Makes me wonder how capable that girl. 😅
interesting video, nice share.
i used to follow various Vtubers, and eventually felt it was too much content. not enough time for everything in life. so i decided to move on from them. though i do like the entertainment they bring. i don't think most people even think about how hard it is to stream frequently and keep talking for hours hours. trying to keep people viewing or support the streamer for that matter. its much more difficult than the average entry level job. so i respect them for the effort they give.
Very Interesting. Thank's for the wonderful content.
was subscribed to her (かくしゃく りん) some since sora introduced her. As much as i wanted tk watch her streams, i dont really understand Japanese that much
i haven't seen rin san in your videos for a while
I've switched all my free time, which is like 2 to 4 hours per day, to japanese immersion for the past 3+ months after trying for 4 years now to do so with limited success, it's been hard finding youtube content I enjoy, and watching this video and understanding more or less everything that's said is a little surreal. I remember watching sora some years ago and understanding next to nothing whenever he'd speak Japanese. Anyways, すげえな、日本語を上手ですね~。まるでネイチブだ!ペラペラだね~。
that 'I wanna punch someone' Rin is so real😄 She can hurt me😆
but yeah, streaming for 24 hours straight. This girl should take more care of own health. I'm worried. Also why would anyone threaten her? And she got so scared for real! Poor soul. I also want to cry😢
4:42 As a non VTuber I can confirm every adult have this situation.
😔 That's a dam shame, can't VTube in peace.
Thank you Rin-san for your insight 👍
Sora you have to make skit with Rin again. It's been a while.
2:12 bro lowkey spitten fax
Wait are you here him ...the random guy from internet...oh wait . You don't have mustache ...
more rin collabs 🗣🗣
Fuck my life I wasn't expecting that shit. Good job calling that out Sora.
Oh ya, I remember Sora talking about that death threat on a stream a while back.
100% of merch revenue?! That can't be legal!
I don't think that's unreasonable at all, they make the model and produce merch all by themselves
It is legal but just because something is legal it is not correct.
tbf they agency is the one that made the merch but yea its pretty scummy to do since the character were promoted by the person behind the screen.
Are you trying to tell me you and I aren't dating Sora?
Hey he is mine not you
Not only restrained to vtubers or youtubers but in general.
My lord, that bit with her acting like wanting to punch people and insulting people on Twitter was super hilarious.
