Mini led for me all the way since I’m mainly gaming with my ps5. My Sony mini led looks very oled and can easily be the most powerful light cannon if you want it to be. I like being worry free on content since I like movies and games and don’t want to worry about any kind of screen degradation or burn in.
If you don’t mind upgrading your tv more frequently (oleds motion gives me migraines) then I’d for sure get the a95l. But mini led for me especially since game content varies on how smooth the motion is and led handles it a lot better.

My personal preference is to think that at least in this video, the qd-oled and mini-led performances turned out to be so close that in many scenes the mini-led performs better, and the qd-oled can't be said to beat the miniled, IMO it can only be said to be a win or a loss for each.

  • @loki76

5:36 Look right here. This is why the X95L is reaching 98% of an OLED in most content. This scene, I don't think the OLED wins in any contrast and "less blooming" Yet it's a dark scene and still lots of lights. Both have great contrast and detail. Even if A95L wins it's by a few percent. There is nothing you'd miss if you owned the X95L.
I think there is a major reason why we never seen, until now by Brian an actual comparison between these two TVs. Because they show that you might as well get 85" X95L instead of a more costly 77" A95L. You also have ZERO risk of burn in and you can run the TV 10 hours a day if you want to and no worries for 6+ years.
Granted the A95L has the Pentonic SoC. But I imagine the X95M will have that too next year.

@@lipiningole1381 in UK yes it would be worth given 85" vs 77" and price difference on top but for 20% less (than x95l) I can get G3 77" with same 3d dimensionality - doesn't top that. In daylight x95l raised blacks are more obvious, angles are ok only up to 45, reflections handling is much worse (VA panel). Hi Brian,
I've noticed that every TV comparison seems to be confusing because there isn't a straightforward answer. For instance, during the FOMO live event, you mainly discussed the Sony A80L 85 inch. However, now there's a comparison between the Sony A95L 77 and Sony X95L 85 inch, adding more complexity with the inclusion of OLED, QD-OLED, and Mini LED.
This has left us feeling perplexed about which TV to purchase, as there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut answer. It's not just a matter of choosing between OLED and QD-OLED; now, we're also considering Mini LED. Trust me, the decision-making process is proving to be quite challenging. Unfortunately, despite seeking advice, we haven't received a definitive answer. It's frustrating not being able to get a straightforward recommendation, and it feels like everyone we ask might be influenced by their affiliations with certain companies.
We are eager for a clear and concise recommendation that can help us make an informed decision. Your guidance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

When I was was making my first 4K upgrade it was very challenging. Here’s one thing I suggest. BUY the one you think you like and try it at home. Use that return policy to your advantage because it’s really tough to tell EXACTLY how you will feel about it until it’s in your specific setup.
That helped me a ton because I wanted a 77 inch but when we got it home my wife hated it and thought it was way too big. Looks different at home that at the store lol

  • @loki76
    @loki76 9 месяцев назад +3

Maybe the OLED purists will dislike this comment. But I prefer the more natural look of the X95L. It's also brighter in some content.
Also, unpopular opinion but for a fact a correct opinion is that OLED and its 'awesome' contrast is actually not natural in 99% of real life content. Real life doesn't have a ton of contrast. Because when there is is light that goes out the window. Shadows aren't deep black or dark in real life. OLED with their issues of near black and how they either turn off the pixel completely or they go one shade higher in dark grey when turned on again. Missing that one step.
I know the A95L is highly accurate and color is awesome. But I also know what my eyes tell me outside when I walk around seeing shadows and contrast and color. Too red and too saturated is not real life. Neither is the aforementioned too much contrast.
Our eyes LOVE contrast and hence why it's so appealing. But that doesn't mean OLED present reality at all times to perfection. But they do shine when it comes to nice bright specular highlights in a dark HDR scene. But honestly that is about it IMO.
Yes the miniLED is forced to dim a bit much in those scenes. But when the new MiniLED panels coming out with 5,000 nits and more zones that can be relaxed again a bit.
95% of content will look nearly the same on A95L and X95L, it's only in the dark HDR scenes where it will be some difference.
As for variance here, that's because two TVs with different technologies are filmed at the same time with one camera. White balance will not work properly and full detail cannot be seen as in real life. One TV or the other will show too dark at times like it's not showing detail, but in real life it does.

Both TVs are special. I never understand why so many people are closed minded now a days. People are so brand loyal and stubborn to try anything else. Including talking bad about companies or models they have never seen. I just love good tech and like to try new things. I have models from a the major companies (LG G2, Samsung 90b, Sony a90j, LG C7, TCL 646, TCL QM8, Hisense U8H, Sony X95L) The Sony was move to where the LG G2 was and its the best TV Ive ever seen by far. Anyone that has seen it has comment on the same and most are strictly OLED only. It has open their eyes to be more open and two of my friends want it replace theirs and another is buying it. I know I would love that A95L as well but only stating how great the X95L is on pop/highlights/local dimming/processing. It makes SDR look like 4k HDR. Great TV. Sad how many may not even give it a chance because of bias. Everyone should get what you like but I feel brand loyalty and bias can keep you from getting something you may like more. That could even be an mini LED person getting on OLED. Great year for TVs and these are two of the tops. Awesome video as always Brian. Fantastic year and thank you for the amazing content all year.

I’m currently have a Sony a95k 55 inch but I’m considering exchanging it for this x95l as I want a 65 inch screen and its only cost £100 more plus I like the idea of a tv not having any risk of burn in. I have read somewhere that the 85 x95l has a higher spec than the 65 and 77 inch screens, is there any truth to this??

Amazing how close these 2 sets get. Puzzles me how or why the X95L doesn’t warrant SONY’s Master Series designation?
Looking at one of these 2 TV’s for my set-up in the more modest 65in size.
Gonna view this TV in a room with large windows & glazed French doors allowing in quite a bit of natural light. We’ll use this TV for up to 16hrs a day watching SD & HD/UHD content(business, news, sports, HD/UHD DVD/Blu-rays, Amazon Prime/AppleTV/NetFlix/YT streaming etc.) & PS5 gaming. Which may mean off-axis viewing for some viewers. Appreciate any advice or recommendations of one of these or similar TV for our specific usage case?
Also surprised that we don’t see more higher bandwidth EtherNet, HDMI v2.1 & USB v3.0 ports in TV’s these days & particularly at these elevated price points.
Kudos on another really insightful & instructive comparison Brian.
Look forward to seeing more in the future.

Yes, there doesn't seem to be much examination into angle effects on LED TVs, which also come in larger sizes.
The cheapest way to get an immersive movie theatre experience, is to sit close to a TV. But there are several issues with doing so, such as room ergonomics. If I one sits 1.2 metres or 4 feet from a 75" TV, its quite an immersive experience. It feels like a picture theatre. But, only three people can do that and even the two at the sides have to turn their heads. For people would not fit.
Go back to 2.5 metres or 8 feet from the screen (the middle of the screen for one person), the image is not immersive with a 75/77" TV. But it's more comfortable, even for just two people. But what about the effect of angles on mini LED TVs that use non IPS screens? The closer one sits to the TV, the more immersive, but also, the more the angle changes for a person on the edge of the TV.
With an OLED or IPS panel, for a person sitting outside the left edge of a 75/77" TV where a middle person is 2.5 metres or 8 feet from the centre of the TV, that person on the left has a significant angle to the right hand side of the TV. No problems for IPS or OLED though, but what about typical mini LED panels at those distances?

Clash of the Titans ! Undoubtedly these two TVs have the best picture quality of all 2023 models, that could be seen on RUclips. To my eyes X95L has slightly greenesh hue, while A95L has slightly pinkish hue. But, generally, both TVs have stunning picture quality. But, as no product is flawless, each of these models asks for some sacrifices. A95L is, still not as bright, while X95L is less sharp and has colours skewed to different shades. Anyway, excellent comparison video of these, much admired TVs !

I have seen both at the store A80L top and A95L bottom in 77". The A95L is brighter and looks amazing compared to the A80L. The first biggest positive for me is the A95L has way less reflections. The second is the A95L side viewing angle is so much better. There was a 84" X93L to the side and that had less reflections and a better side viewing angle than the A80L. The A93L looks amazing but had just a tad less contrast than the A95L to me. I wish they had a X95L on display. The G3 looked great but the A95L looked the best.

I can honestly say I would never buy another oled.they both have trades off like on the oled during sdr they are not bighter enough. The still have pixel that get less bright over time and burn in stil is a thing over time. Thee mirror screen finish are not good at handlig reflections the x95 kills it’s for reflection bightness on sdr and I don’t have to worry about static images or the panel dimming form then like you do on oled.

Well, you asked for opinions in the comments section so here it is...
Great content overall, but 4 things to mention... (1) when comparing OLED to LED, it would help if you slowed down (prolonged) any night scenes or star field content so we can get a good look. You have plenty of great scenic shots, but you fly past anything with stars for comparison? Yes we can pause the video, but it's not the same. (2) You mentioned nothing about 'burn-in', which is a massive factor in considering OLED over LED. (3) Off-angle comparisons just don't look great, especially at different depths from the camera. Side-by-side full-on, or above / below would be way more professional. (4) It would be great to get your clear opinion on both panels in a summary. You just mention both are amazing, but leave it there. Everyone has to draw their own conclusions, but we watch these videos for a reason and to get someone's 'take' on both panels when they have hands-on experience with both. Video was 30mins, it was great, but I'm still searching for other content because not everything was answered here...
