I'm 46, totally stuck in life and miserable. This video is what I needed today, thank you guys.
Thank you for posting this comment, I'm in my early twenties and it is very inspiring to see someone older than me question life the way I do! It pushes me to do the things I want to do in life.
Same here. I know I want a change but not sure what that change is yet but leaving is not an option for me right now.
Sometimes we all need a little sign ✨
You are going to be better!!! trust me and trust yourself!!!
@@jean-simondesjardins2819 I would do anything to turn back time and have knowledge I have today. So much pain could be avoided. Please, do one thing for yourself. Trust your intuition NO MATTER WHAT. Be focused and determined. If you manage not to betray yourself, you will be fine even though life will be hard MANY times before you get 46. Take good care of yourself and the rest will follow. I'm learning all that a little bit too late ❤🙏
I love hearing more about your family. It truly explains why you’re so open minded and down to earth. You parents sound incredible and I kinda want to see what this new chapter in life brings them 😊
You’re so fortunate to have such cool parents . ‘Im anxious to follow their transition to a new life in Portugal on their RUclips.
It's always a pleasure finding your comments. You're literally EVERYWHERE 😅
I’m 58 and about to live in my van with my dogs.
My terrible mother-who I moved away from at 17, that or I was going to commit suicide, but, I let her in my life in my 20’s, biggest mistake-
is dying and even in her death
she has helped turn my
four children against me many many years ago but they of course are
adults
in their 30s and have children and they’re all hateful and
wish that I was dead,
I waited for many years for them to be sorry and

As a Ukrainian refugee having to start from scratch - MAJOR inspiration boost. Understanding that life will be hard and you never see the whole mountain is just mind-blowing.
God bless you and open doors!!!
Hope you are doing well! I wish you the best of the future has to offer!
Return to Ukraine and fight for your country.
I hope you are well. As a person, you have your own life. Don't listen to someone that order what you need to do.

I mom was 39, my dad was 42, I was 17 when we left Bosnia after the war. Our home in Bosnia was completed just couple of years before all the atrocities. My parents lost everything. We did not speak English and we arrived in the US without money. We MADE it. My parents worked hard to make life better for my brother and I. That was the hardest time of our lives and probably as bad as the war itself. Everything that happened after that in our lives was a piece of cake :)
Every f**ing time I watch a video about your parents it makes me want to cry because you because you're the most heartwarming people ever. If the laundry machine issue happened in my family, it would produce a lot of bad interactions and feelings. But you just had a laugh and had it clean. And it shows me that life could be so much more
Victor Hausen, one of my life mottos is, one might as well laugh than cry about something if the result is the same. The washer made a mess, you can be angry and raise your blood pressure, or you can laugh about it. What's the result? You cleaned it up! 😉
I agree. And I was thinking the same thing. Respect. Responsibility. Love and care. You all are simply …Beautiful. !!
I didn’t move out of the USA to Europe. My story is similar in the sense
We moved out of our 4 bdrm 3 bath,2car Garage , pool in backyard home in NJ and bought a small townhouse in SC on the coast.
I’ve lived in NJ my whole life and would never consider myself adventurous. But! We are both 55 and have 3 kiddos. Leaving behind purging. It is like a spiritual awakening. Refreshing.
Wonderful. Glad I’m doing it and scared of just what your Momma said. Scared of losing all of my comforts.
This has been a god send.
Thank you!!
Your parents are superstars. Not only do they look gorgeous, but they're also brave and young at heart, which is indeed very inspiring ! Can't wait for a follow up on their adventures. Much love
Agree! they are gorgeous and exude such beautiful energy!💫💫
young at heart..... They’re in their 50s lol. Pardon, it very well could be me and my own upbringing with adventurous parents who I very well could see doing something this into their 70s even but 50s (to me) is so young, agile, and able - not just in heart - but in age. It’s funny to me to hear this like they’re senior citizens. Fifties is _SO_ young (again, to me.) I do agree with you. So great for them and their family.
@@noble604 I'm saying this because I know 50 year-olds who are very much stuck in their routine and have been having the same holidays over and over for 15 years... so these people surely wouldn't have the courage to move across the country, let alone entire OCEANS ! Also, some people at 50 have conditions that would just prevent them from such a drastic change. So, yes, I agree, "young" is all relative but being 50 isn't being in your prime either ahah likely meaning you're well past the first half of your life.
Yes, you’re right. I understand.
Oh yeah. They're great. That explains his therapy. Lmao. What drivel.
As a Swede/European I don’t see that there is any opposition between being patriotic or loving your nation’s culture and being curious about other countries and cultures and living in another country.
True, because you’ll always be the foreigner where you land. So, just embrace your identity, and the locals will appreciate it.

It's because you haven't been indoctrinated into nationalism
@@samernammari8785no no, this is not true. We all have ties to certain places, and once you leave that place you do become a foreigner. But no matter where you are you have those ties to that land.

I emigrated from Argentina to Italy to get my citizenship at 50, then to Spain. My husband (English), my daughter and her husband and I live in Galicia, Spain now. The best decision we've made in our lives. Not without the expected challenges, especially when there's bureaucracy in the middle. But, man! this is the best life!
I have a serious question: Who are these people who are leaving the US? Are they baby boomers? OR Are they millennials with remote-tech-job? What do you see around you?

I’ve literally just done this. Moved my whole family, 3 kids, dog, cat and three truck fulls of stuff (1000s of books) after living 22 years in the UK to Denmark. I had a really big panic about it all last week. This video really saved me. It’s so inspiring. I’m 46 and I just feel I want to keep moving. I really questioned myself last week… but it feels like the right decision.

Welcome to Denmark :))
I'm in my late fifties and permanently leaving the United States in four weeks to join my wife in Bogotá. I can't tell you how much I needed to see this video. I especially appreciate the part where your parents talk about not trying to take on the whole mountain at once. Words to live by. I also connected with this video because I just happened to have been a 14 year old kid on vacation with my father and grandmother in Buenos Aires the day the military staged a coup and took over the country. Yeah, I wonder if they could adopt me.
So many Americans grew up in the throes of a trauma-inducing family. Much of this has to do with maniacal religion foisted upon children who are in no way ready for it. The US has no social safety net. We have massively bad philosophies projected onto all of us about constantly pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps----but for what? So we can have a life of unending consumerism? I guess what I"m saying is: I hear you!! 🙂
@@briananderson8428 Why do Americans center themselves around every topic and think that every issue is only unique to them? Americans aren't even that religous compared to the rest of the world and the standard of living that you guys have is better than 99% of the world. Just admit that your parents didn't love you lol
Great comment 👍🧡💕🌿🌱
As a man in my fifties who has been actively questioning whether or not my current life is the one that I want, and fighting excuses like, “I’m too old/single/poor/unclear/afraid to make big changes like moving abroad,” I found this video perfectly timed and concretely inspiring. Well done! Following your dad’s channel now, too!
I hit 50 and realised there's more to life than what I was doing, eat, sleep, work, repeat. I sold my few possessions, quit my job and brought a motorhome, then hit the road. I've been travelling for 8 years now,I work when I need money then move on. This might not be right for you,but don't leave it until its too late to find out what is right for you.
Not yet 50 and I’ve been feeling the same for a while now. Im seriously planning to move from US in the next couple of years, hopefully before 2024.
I’m spending the next two years putting things in place. Getting rid of things, setting up my mom in a new home, arranging accommodations, feeling out jobs, etc.
The reality is that you can create a life, get work wherever you you land. It may be difficult for a while, but the challenge is worth it and it’s a heck of a lot better than monotony of my current life.
Good luck with everything.
@@JS-zs3zl I appreciate your encouragement and admire that you’re making it happen. I too have started envisioning some plans since I posted that comment. Good luck on your new adventure!

Out of everything I’ve seen on Nathaniel’s channel, the relationship he has with his parents and his parents have with him, is by far the most impressive one.
My wife, son and I moved to Spain from California 4.5 years ago and it has been the best thing we ever did. There is something to be said for getting out there and enjoying a different life. Great job by your parents having the courage to simply go for it. The uncomfortable moments start to become fewer and fewer. The crazy holiday fireworks stop being and issue when you know when they are and you can use it as a reason to go enjoy a weekend getaway in the mountains or in a different beautiful spot. We are almost the same age as your parents so if they need friends in Europe that went through something similar they have friends in España.
You need lots of money to do this. They made tons of money in the USA. Also, do they speak the language? In the USA, we spend huge amounts of money to teach immigrant children to speak English, but not one penny to teach American born kids another language, until it's too late. High school is too late. Wish I was this couple. I'm jealous!
@@Kfuglif in Spain and Portugal we are perfectly able to speak English. And we are no xenophobic stupids. We welcome all those who come over here to share our lifestyles and to live peacefully. Language is not that important.
Do you work remotely?
Every place has its provincialism. Some countries have their racism, their antisemitism, their sexism. Cuba has homophobia. And every place has its beauty. Enjoy Portugal. A country with a progressive revolution around 1910. And then decades of Salazar. But it’s beautiful. Minorities in Belmonte has their issues,
Best of luck wherever you go,
Wow! As a psychologist I am thinking how amazing it would be if all children could have parents like your mom and dad! I really mean it Nathaniel. They sound so loving (critical for good emotional development!) supportive and they have enormous curiosities and that is so healthy! I think it is so fantastic that your parents have made a base on Portugal and can travel. I personally love the purging and downsizing! I more minimal sometimes - the clearer my mind is at times. I have my favourite things - only what I need - I don't blow money on a a lot of unnecessary things - and I have a nice Vancouver, BC, Canada home - but I do try to downsize all the time so I am not completely encumbered by things I don't need. Hey what do your parents do? I hope it is okay to ask. They mention they have clients. I just haven't seen what that is - not trying to be nosy. I think we never free ourselves completely of attachments - unless we are the Dalai Lama perhaps!! Lol!! It is so difficult to give up attachments. It is a constant mindful practice! 🙂 I find it interesting how your dad said at the time of making this video he was needing some "comforts" - he is honest - it's hard to give up the comforts of life! Youth is a mindset! The things your parents do should help their minds stay so busy that they are less at risk of diseases like Dementia. Change and being able to "adapt" and learn really new things is so protective and healthy for brain health!! Your parents are terrific!! Their fight against discomfort is amazing and enlightening. I can feel your dad's desire for more space! That is so hard to give up yet a couple doesn't really need a lot of physical space! I enjoyed this video so much and I am so glad they are now closer to you so more visiting is possible. Portugal is lovely! I have been quite a few times to study how they deal with people who struggle with addiction. They are so progressive!! Hey it's terrific your dad has started his own RUclips video channel. I will absolutely check it out!! Fabulous video!! Cheers!! 🙂
Hello how are you doing?
Welcome to Portugal! I strongly suggest Tomar as a place to live, it is absolutely beautiful and tranquil. As a youngster, just barely 13 yrs of age, I, my sis and my parents (in their 40's) left everything in Portugal and moved to the USA. I never forgave them, until they got sick and passed away. Now at 55 I decided it was time to leave the rat race and finally come home. It's been an adjustment. Amazing the amount of stuff I had and brought with me. Not easy for a single person with some serious health issues. Almost 5 years after I am still giving away boxes, bags and bags if clothes, 250 pairs of shoes, books, knick knacks, pot pans you name it. The feeling of purging to lightness is amazing, and so was this move, the best decision of my life. Be happy 🤗🙏❤️🇵🇹❤️
Tomar is nice indeed, and really quiet
May I ask what you do as a living to live in portugal with income ease? I am curious how its done incase i make the move eventually
Omg, I’m in my 50’s and have been dreaming of moving to Europe! My father was French and most of my family on my father’s live there. I was worried I was too old to make such a move. So inspiring, thank you! Yes, you know who you are and the material things are much less important.
I can identify so much with what your parents went through. At 54, my wife and I sold everything and jumped into an RV … and lived, worked, and traveled full time in the RV … for 12 years. I’m 66 now and expect to leave the US in the near future.
Congrats! I'm curious. If you don't mind, when you leave the US, where will you be heading?

I know you said you find your parents inspiring, but I think they find you just as inspiring 😌 this was just lovely
Agree! ^
I can't believe how incredible and inspiring your parents are. You're such a blessed human to have been raised by such open and vulnerable humans!
I was in Europe for three weeks this past month for vacay. I’ve been back two weeks now and I never imagined to feel such a connection during my time away, especially in Italy. The idea of moving out of the US always lingered but I didn’t know when, why, or how. Being back I felt sort of displaced. I cried a few times because I do feel a sadness being back and everything tends to remind me of my time there. It was so amazing. Made me realize that maybe it’s possible and time for me to really think about it on how I can make it happen and succeed on this move. Believe me when I say I started googling about it. 😅 There’s really nothing holding me back except being comfortable with this being all I know and my career that keeps me financially stable. The process seems a little daunting but I’m sure it’s worth it! This video inspired me even more. Life is just so beautifully different everywhere and I want to experience more of that. Thank you for this video. Truly inspiring!
This is exactly how I felt when I came back from Spain 2 years ago. I just don’t feel like this is my home. Maybe it’s my ancestors crying out for their ancestral home, idk.
This reminds me of when my parents moved across the world with me and my brother to Canada in their 40's. Now, I'm in my 20's and will be packing up my life and moving to France. I think it might be in our genes 😀
Hello how are you doing?
What they are doing is so inspirational, never really thought how much the idea that when you'll grow older you'll stay in one place, with your house/apartment and settle there was unconsciously in my future vision as a given. Recently I got a new job that made me move to Portugal, and all my family from one day to another said: "All right we are going too, in a maximum of 2 years we are all together in Portugal". My parents are in their 60s, and felt exactly like you, it is surprising how much bravery you need to embrace a new journey at this age, and change your perspective for the future, that's awesome!!! Congrats to you and your family, for making a huge effort to new adventures and buying new challenges! Abraços de um fã brasileiro!!

My parents and I. Never put yourself first.
One thing that I really love from this video is that, yes they're your parents so there's the parent/child dynamic, but your parents also seem to be your friends. You support them and they support you. Such a lovely relationship! Had no idea that your brother is also in the EU now too. Great that you guys are geographically closer together now
Alternatively, one can down grade to a lesser city or lesser home, minimizing your monthly cost. Use the extra resource to slow travel with airbnb for example. I'm trying it out this year and love it so far.
It's a good idea but Airbnb are getting expensive, at least on the east coast in the US.
When I see that your video is 15 or 20 minutes I feel that it’s long, but every time I start a video of yours I enjoy it till the last minute. All the best to you from NorCal!
That's where I would like to be as well, Humboldt is more my style. It's still a huge ordeal wherever you go, I must consider a rare disease to take care of so moving overseas is nearly impossible without that support. Good luck to you..& enjoy the incredible Redwoods & coast (Yachats, OR is stunning if you love Nature)
Thank you for this video, Nathaniel. My wife and I are retiring outside of the US in the next couple of years, and Portugal is on all of the "top ten" type of lists we saw when doing our research. I'm sure your parents will do well there, and we will be watching both of your channels to get all of the great information you are supplying!
This is so true... I'm 59 and my husband is 68 and we are stuck because of his stuff. Stuff means nothing to me, but to him it's his memories and he loves it. PS. Butter is so cute.
Loved this. Hubby and I always talk about leaving Australia for Italy one day. However we do realise the grass isn’t always greener even on the other side of the world. Maybe we will get there but are thankful for the lifestyle and overall quality of life we have in OZ including fantastic weather. For some reason great climate is a must for my mental health. Your Parents are very inspiring though.
Meeting your parents explains so much about you as a person. I think we rarely realize how much we are like our parents and take on from them. I am also a big fan of my parents 😂 so I can relate. I wouldn't want to live too far away from them either.
Love this! My husband and I have been talking about moving to Europe in the next couple of years. Thanks for sharing ❤️
This is so inspiring! Life is so much more than one place, one country and one perspective. Once you understand this, you unlock something extraordinary.
I resonated with this so much. I’m in my 40s and my family can’t understand why I want to leave the US and not come back. It’s difficult to make big life changes but the journey through it all is what turns an ordinary life into an extraordinary one. Your parents are truly inspirational. 💗
Tus papás se ven muy vitales, increíblemente vitales. Siendo argentina me siento un poco movilizada, mucha gente de mi edad se está yendo del país y realmente me duele.
Wow your parents are so inspirational. My own parents don't even leave the neighbourhood, ever. My dad stopped driving because he didn't like travelling. Our most far-flung holiday was to Amsterdam (I'm from the UK), and all they did was sit in a mall.
❤️ going through a very similar transition in life right now. Hearing your parents is a perfect reflection of how easy and free you are at any time to completely change your life.
I love how your parents approach life. I love that they’re choosing to live rather than exist; that they’re not boxing themselves in what society defines as adulthood or a good life. Gorgeous gorgeous video as always, Nathaniel. Can’t wait to see all the beautiful things you and yours experience.
Loved this! So inspiring. Your parents are so cool and so wise.
Que lindos! Uma nova vida em Portugal!!! Muita sorte e felicidades para seus pais!!!
This is awesome buddy thanks for sharing. I've been looking at Portugal for a while...
I absolutely love this, the representation of older generations and also just how real your content is. Your channel and you as a person is so needed on this platform and on this planet
What a beautiful relationship with your parents you have. I have a little son and another is joining us soon. My wish for them and for me and their dad is to be as open, loving and vulnerable with each other.
Congratulations to your parents on doing one of the hardest things I can think of: straying from the way things are after many years.
Exceptional video of your parents taking that leap in life that most of us are afraid to do. It certainly helps when both parties agree on adventures. Your entire family inspires me!
Wow this video is amazing! To see another generation going through bordum and discomfort is very inspiring. Thanks to all your family!
Really like the way this video is set up with the interview between the content. You asked good questions and they were so willing to answer. Such a good video so far.
Doing this for your parents truly validates who you all are as a family..it takes a leap of faith to make changes ...
Being like Alice in Wonderland can be a great adventure..
Thankyou for posting such a great episode of your family's life of big change..🦋
I loved you filmed their story!!! This is such good insight & very helpful to see other like-minded people's perspective on how to navigate this type of change. Congratulations to your entire family on your moves! :D
It's incredible how your parents look so young and beautiful at their age. And look happier than most people on Earth!
They actually are young! 50 is not old.
@@reallirhonda I was referring to most people ay that age nor willing to change their whole life around like that.
@@reallirhonda I so agree!
Gosh! Your parents are so young, both physically and spiritually. They're AMAZING!!
Such a authentic and deep bond the Drew family has!
your parents are awesome! so much energy and humor like teenagers (wise teenagers lol). Best wishes from Czech republic!👍
Wow, I wish to your parents a lot of luck and love in their new life chapter! I admire their courage and how they follow their dreams! Thank you for sharing the story, Nathaniel!
I am so proud of your parents - heck, of your entire family. Now I know where you got your wanderlust. More power to you all and looking forward to your adventures. All the best!
Your parents are absolutely lovely and VERY intelligent in their approach to life. And you're right: It's a balancing act of fighting against boredom but needing comfort. I really hope you engage your parents and their journey as a regular part of this ongoing show.
I just made the move to living a more nomadic life, and I truly appreciated this video...as I have felt similar things as your parents recently - their last comments were brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing this, and really all the videos I've watched so far - showing the good and sometimes difficult parts of these types of transitions!
Wow I was just thinking that I would love to see more of your mom and dad on youtube, them sharing their knowledge and experiences... Their energy and perspectives are really enjoyable to me, so I am very happy to learn that your dad decided to create his own channel, I am definitely checking it out as soon as I finish writing this comment. Thank you for this video! :)
Just... THANK you! THANK you Nathaniel, THANK YOU Mr. and Mrs. Drew! You guys are one truly inspirational family!
This is an inspiration, to see your Mom and Dad making a big transition in this time of their lives. Kudos to them for following through with the idea. The one thing about watching this video is you can tell that your parents like each other. It shows. And if they were not the whole idea of moving to another country would fall apart. They are a team.Congratulations to both of them for taking a big leap of faith. Bravo.I wish I could do it but not in the cards.
Welcome to Coimbra!
Happy to have open minded people like you here!
Algún día pienso hacer lo mismo! Felicidades a tus padres! Good luck on this new chapter!
