    This was a good one!! A couple years ago I wanted a faster boat but couldn’t afford it. After watching your Sleekcraft and Merc Mondays videos I bought an old boat for $1000 and fixed it up myself. I have a restoration video on my channel about it! Those videos gave me the confidence I needed to tackle that project, thanks guys!

    I LOVE everything about your videos! The fast forwards, the captions to read, your narration, the way you and your wife interact - including the sexual innuendos, the way your wife works with you (mine does too), every minute is interesting. Thank you! I'm now a subscriber and I subscribe to very few but listen to many! This video was no exception - I learned a lot even though I think I know what I'm doing :). I work on Mercruiser engines and outdrives, boats, ATV's, farm equipment and enjoy flipping them all! Not my primary source of income, just a hobby.

      Thanks, only way forward is ... forward?
      I'm trying to transition from how to tech videos to long format videos, as they seem to perform a million times better. And honestly it seems like the how to videos, while helpful, actually hurt the channel because most subscribers scroll past them, which means my next video is less likely to even get shown to them, and it's a viscous cycle of that. I tried focusing on marine content for a year, but it didn't really help either. It's a fickle beast.

    Just came across this channel. THIS story brought me to subscribe. Had a 16' 79 Starcraft Kingfisher I sold about ten years ago. Inherited it from my dad when he passed and kept it for a few years before finally selling since I didn't use it very much so it sat on the trailer most of the time. 3 years ago I purchased a home in a lake community. Not a day goes by now when I don't miss that boat. So many great memories of fishing, crabbing, and water skiing with that boat!Thanks for your restoration efforts as well as reuniting it with its old family! Nice job bringing that classic back to life. My first boat was a 77 SRV195. Almost identical but had a closed bow. I restored that boat and kept it like new up until I sold it about 12 years ago. It had the 260hp 350 and would top out at 52mph on gps. . I still see it on the lake from time to time, and wish I still had it. It was a well built solid boat and felt better than any other boat I have had since then. Thanks for the memories.

    • @ADDvanced
      @ADDvanced  4 месяца назад

      52mph is a decent number, I think this one hit high 30s, but I didn't really wring it too too hard. Definitely needs a stainless prop, and a 4 barrel intake/carb would be a nice upgrade too. 350/Alpha is one of the best drive combos ever. Cheers man!

    I have a 1979 yacht cruiser beachcomber. It has been sitting at the original owners for years. Bought it for a fishing boat and cruiser with the family. Its core memories for the kiddos. oldest is always asking to go. I sold my motorcycles to do this project because they weren't being ridden. I've not only bought a boat but now have core memories with the young ones. its incredible. They money spent on getting this thing "reliable" is so worth it. As well as selling the motorcycles. This boat is one of the best things I have ever bought for us.

      THIS IS AWESOME! First off, I sort of hate motorcycles. I love them... but I've lost people to them, and it wasn't even their fault. I love snowmobiles which are similar, but you're not sharing the road with Karens driving 6000lb SUVS who text and drive. Good choice! And yeah, boating is god tier level fun. I picked up a 1978 SeaRay 197 about 12 years ago that a 80 year old guy had donated to a charity and they then had it for sale on Ebay. I was high bidder at $2450 and never saw the boat in person, just the pictures on Ebay. Went and picked it up and this boat is probably the nicest all original 197 around. Must have always been garage kept with all original carpet and seats in excellent condition on a rust free tandem axle EZ loader trailer. It even has the camper canvas in the original plastic bags that looks like it was never used. Hard to beat the styling of those older SeaRay's. It's my thumbnail picture and can't imagine ever selling it. Great job on the restoration and giving the old girl a second life and super cool that it's back with the original family!

      Yeah, very high freeboard on this thing; the bow is higher than the 23' Sorrento from the last video. When my dad got this thing, I really didn't get it. It looked awful, and I didn't like the design as it looked like any other open bow to me. After living with it a while, it really is different; the hull as you mentioned is great for rough water, the tall yacht like bow rails, and the super classy teak armrests/rails near the stern.... plus the helm is super cool too. What a great boat. I wish the new owners many years of awesome memories.

      I felt lucky to have been a part of all this, it was so cool to see the next generation excited about boating! It's too bad current marine manufacturers are run by corporate suits chasing quarterly profits by producing extremely expensive, bloated, awful looking, slow ass boats that nobody can afford. I don't think they realize or care what long term damage they are actually doing to boating.

    Another great boat project. You are right the feeling of getting an old boat running again is priceless and something that cannot be bought. I restored a 1999 boat in 2003 that had an electrical fire in the rear compartment. Lots of damage and was minus the outboard. The on-board battery charger caught on fire. When I was done and took it out for the first time it was an amazing feeling. I bought the hull for next to nothing considering it was a high end boat. I am still running that same boat today. It has been an amazing boat and the memories it has provided are amazing.

    Wow, another great video, glad to see it's getting good views as well. As someone who get accused of putting way too much sentimental value on things that I own (one reason which causes me to accumlate stuff), I love the story telling aspect about these old boats - in the case of this one, not just that your dad had it but the memories that the the previous owner has of it as well. Super cool that you were able to save it and get it back to him. We're all just temporary stewards of the cool old stuff that's still left.
    It's funny with learning to appreciate things your previously thought were ugly and didn't care much for. I've turned around like that on alot of the "less flashy" old stuff I didn't pay much mind to (in my case, older Alumacrafts, Lone Stars, etc.)
    I started smearing silicone grease on impellers awhile back as well, seemed like a good idea. Glad to see someone else thinks so. I don't mess much with outdrives, but doing on on them (at least in this case) actually looked easier than on an outboard.
    Nice job again, easy video to sit down and watch all the way through 👍

      Thanks man, appreciate it! This one turned out great, it was so wild to get that note on the van one morning. I thought it was going to be someone complaining about the boat at first. Yeah.... I mean I still don't think this type of sea ray is my style, but I definitely think the tall dead rise, and tall bow rail is pretty cool, and the teak around the stern is just so awesome. Nobody does that anymore except yachts. Aluminum boats are always pretty cool, my first boat was a 12' alumacraft with a 10 horse on the back. I beat the F out of that thing up in Minocqua. :)
